The Introduction Thread
Kongregate Name: dasrore
Age: 17 in about a week
Location: Michigan. USA
Female/Male: Male.
Online Gaming History (let it be forums or online games): NES->SNES->PS1 For the first chunk of my life
Then games kind of drifted out of my life for a bit, I got the GCN, followed by the Xbox, and played a lot of GBA.
Then I got my own PC and I’ve loved PC games since.
I got a DS, and I don’t really play it, I got a wii and I ended up Ebaying it because I never play it. I think I like PC a lot more because of the Free expanisive online play, and the ability to pause the game, tab out, and go on the internet or talk to people on MSN/AIM etc.
PC Wise I play Starcraft, Warcraft, MAME, GGXX: Online, I went through a counterstrike phase, but now days I’m mostly just playing MAME/GGXX and WoW. (and games on kongregate)

POD challenge nerfed
I don’t think it really needed to be nerfed. But I guess a lot of people couldn’t manage?
Idk it seems like if you can’t get it, you should try a bit more. The point of a challenge is difficulty, so it shouldn’t really be expected to ace it on the first try every time. =P
I think it’s maybe because this challenge you can’t be spoonfed the skill like with DTTD, but what do I know.

I thought it was hard at first, just focus on it though and it’s not really that hard.
I beat it 3rd try.

Newgrounds
What’s your logic behind this being a wanna-be newgrounds?
Because it’s focused on flash based videogames which newgrounds also has?
That seems like a bit of a generalization, like saying every search engine is a “wanna-be google”.

Kongregate as a website
Looks very nice imo :D
I really like the aesthetics and layout of it, it’s very unobtrusive and sleek, very “web 2.0”. The best part is that it isn’t jammed with Banner Ad’s like a lot of flash game websites. It’s still developing from the looks of it but it has really nice potential from what I see. Kudos to the Dev.’s

Kongregate Forums
Yeah I was wondering about the forums too, the coding for formatting is really weird, I’d be really appreciative of a “Preview”.

World of Warcraft
I’ve got a 60 gnome mage on Aegwyn, and around half a dozen friends who are lvl 70 end game raiding :(
I have a toon on LB because my friend Essi has a 70 druid on there, Druids are still great tanks, but they serve as better offtanks then main tanks.

rap
“Rap and hip-hop are different genres of music. I personally won’t listen to ‘rap,’ but enjoy a good set of hip-hop (live or recorded) any day…
Maybe it’s just me being white, but I can’t enjoy music where every other word is bitch, n*, ho, etc. Hip-hop generally seems more thoughtful and artistic.”
I think the genres overlap a lot of the time, and people often group them together, so it’s kind of hard to differentiate.
Not all rap is like that; For example Too Short’s “In the Ghetto”
http://www.lyricsdepot.com/too-short/the-ghetto…
I think you might be mixxing up R&B with hiphop though. (?)

rap
ArcaneCoder: I agree, and disagree, you see I think you can dislike a genre of music, but when you say you “hate” and entire genre you’re being close minded, it goes from having specific taste to being presumptious and clumping stuff together.
I haven’t ever heard any Jazz that I’ve liked, in fact I dislike Jazz that I’ve heard in general, but I wouldn’t say I hate Jazz music because I haven’t explored the genre, or heard enough of it to make a judgement.
And that’s my problem with a lot of the people who judge rap. They say they hate rap, when they haven’t really given themselves a chance to listen to a lot of rap, and are making their judgements based on a couple songs they heard on the radio. And that’s what I’m reffering to.
I don’t really think that anyone that dislikes rap or hip hop (they overlap each other a lot of the time as genres) is close minded, I just think a lot of them tend to be. I wasn’t really implying that people that take the mind to check rap out and give it an honest chance and still didn’t like it, were close minded people. Sorry if I gave that impression to you.

For Love of Wisdom
Good and Evil exist in the sense that they’re subjective standards brought up by society and what it values as being the correct and incorrect things to do, often based on what everyone would find agreeable. (imho)

Hating rap shows that you’re a very close minded individual, usually the people that hate it have only heard the stuff on the radio and generalize it as stupid unthoughtful music.
Hip hop is relaxed a lot of the time and generally good time music, but it can be very meaningful, even if you don’t like it, that’s just your taste, it’s pretty arrogant to imply your opinion onto everyone else.
I really like Dr.Dre, E-40, and Ludacris personally, though I usually listen to indie/folk more then hip hop.

runescape
I’m not a fan of runescape at all, but then again I haven’t played it in years. To me it just seems like boring bare bones of an rpg. It has shoddy graphics and fetchquests and grinding, you could play many other free korean mmorpgs that look and play better.
The positive of it though, is that it’s good for younger players who don’t know how to manage lots of skills and abilities, like I think RS would be a good game if I wanted my 8 year old nephew to play. But personally I’d rather shell out the $30 every two monthes to play wow if I want an mmo.
Of course this is all just my opinion, and if you have fun playing RS, more power to you.

Favorite Kongregate game?
What’s your favorite game on kongregate and why?
I personally really like red (http://kongregate.com/games/Ivory/red) because it’s stylistic and fun. As well as simple.
Same for Tactical assasin (http://kongregate.com/games/simonhason/tactical…) although TA seems a bit short.
Overall my favorite is probably bloons (http://kongregate.com/games/Ninjakiwi/bloons) though, just because it’s really fun, simple, challenging, and addictive.

Suggestions
I’ve loved the games on kongregate so far, but nothing bugs me more then not being able to turn off the sound on a game. D:
I’m usually listening to music while I play, and a lot of games don’t have a “mute” feature, if Kongregate could implement a way to have a mute button outside of the game, that would mute the website in general (in essence letting you mute games with no mute button) I’d be a happy(er) camper. :)
Edit: Also I was thinking it’d be nice if the forums could be formatted for typical PHPBB formatting, i for italics b for bold etc. I’m not really an expert with html or forums though so I don’t know how possible that would be, it just would seem a lot more familar when posting. :)

Internet Radio Royalties
Pandora (http://pandora.com/) is a wonderful free and open internet radio/music discovery service that allows users to listen to their favorite bands while discovering new music based on the types of music they like etc. I use it often when I don’t have my music library (iTunes) available, and it’s generally a cool free service.
But recently they, along with almost all free internet radio, is being threatened by a ruling by the library of congress.
“But a ruling from an obscure, 3-person panel from the Library of Congress threatens the existence of Pandora, and every other internet radio service out there. The plan from the Copyright Royalty Board is to increase the fees to internet radio operators so high that they will effectively be out of business. Paying $.0008 a song might not sound much, but if you consider the millions of songs per day served up by Pandora alone, it becomes a very large bill indeed.”
Check out the interview with Pandora founder Tim Westgren, I think he puts it a lot better then I can.
