Finally worked it out! It seems that HTML5 games on Kongregate (or possibly just those hosted on other sites) require 3rd-party cookies. If you have them turned off, you get very, very bizarre symptoms.

If, like me, you don’t want to globally enable 3rd-party cookies, just add the hosting sites (uploads.ungrounded.net and gamejolt.net in for these two games) to the exceptions list.

Interesting! Just dug into that a bit and if I load the iframe URLs directly (uploads.ungrounded.net for no-one has to die. and gamejolt.net for Magnetized), the games work perfectly well.

I should also mention that I have of course done the usual turning-off of antivirus, ad-blockers, etc., to no effect.

There are two canvas games which recently received badges (no-one has to die. and Magnetized) and neither is working for me. (Chrome 26.0.1410.64 on Windows 7)

no-one has to die. launches to a back game screen with no audio. If I switch to another tab for long enough, when I tab back, it will display the text “Loading sounds…” and begin playing music. Switching tabs out and back again gets me to the main in-game menu, where I can select a level. The level will not load, however, until I switch out and back again (again!), at which point I can play through the level normally. Upon completing a level, however, I can only progress to the next with much clicking of invisible buttons and switching of tabs. Upon reaching one of the endings, the screen goes black (still playing music) and I’m no longer able to progress at all.

Magnetized loads through the “Cloud Macaca” logo, then fades to black with music and stops responding. If I switch tabs out and back again, the main menu appears. Clicking progresses me to what is either a game grid or a level select (I can’t tell which), where there is only a single colored square responds to clicks, switching between three “pages” with differently-colored squares at the bottom. The colored squares are the only elements which respond to clicks, so I am unable to do anything other than switch between the three pages.

This problem is only occurring for me on Kongregate. I can even play no-one has to die. on its creator’s web site where it works quite well and I was able to complete the game.
