Topic: Game Programming / Adjust color: HUE in AS2 ?

Is there any way to access ‘adjust color’ filter in AS2 ?

All I found so far is fl.motion.AdjustColor, but it seems to work only in AS3..

Topic: Game Programming / Swapping MCs in AS2

Doesn’t work for me even if I put it into a new variable.
Even if I try to give it some fixed position so that I can see it somewhere.

There has to be a way to get this working – I mean it appears to me that this is used quite often, the only other variant I can see is to make other object visible after certain conditions..

edit: I’ve finaly figured it out – the another symbol had to be exported for AS in library. The swap doesn’t work with simple MCs, they have to be exported also.

Thanks for the help, everyone.)

I hadn’t found any working solution – please, any profi advice there?

Topic: Game Programming / Swapping MCs in AS2

Doesn’t work with identical x and y position either (as shown below), where is the flaw?

var theDepth = _root.man.symbol.getDepth();
var theX = _root.man.symbol._x;
var theY = _root.man.symbol._y;
_root.man.attachMovie("another_symbol", "symbol", theDepth, {_x: theX, _y: theY});

That’s what I’ve found – using occupied depth should replace it, but my example above didn’t work.

Topic: Game Programming / Swapping MCs in AS2

I was digging on web to find a way to swap one MC – symbol – for one that is in library – another symbol – (inheriting the same code behavior of course). I found those two lines below:

var theDepth = _root.man.symbol.getDepth();
_root.man.attachMovie("another_symbol", "symbol", theDepth);

//But somehow, it won’t work. Anyone tossing advices around?

Thanks greatly! I will start putting things more into variables – it seems AS likes that.)

Topic: Game Programming / really stupid question about createTextField

Hello – this time I have something I don’t understand (again).
I have a class and I want to create text field:

this.createTextField("tx_hps", 10, 0, 0, 300, 100); this.tx_hps.text = "smthng";

How come it says “there is no property with this name”?

Thanks for reply. I’m still kind of confused with all the referencing – I’ll study further.

Topic: Game Programming / Modify text field after pushing whole clip into object

In the following code, you see that I pushed whole clip into object called Enemy. Before that happened, I edited a text field (that was in the clip). It shows alright.
The problem is that I cannot find that text field (tx_hps) no more.

How do I modify this text field after I push the clip into object?

var enemy = _root.attachMovie("gob", "0_gob" + _root.getNextHighestDepth(), _root.getNextHighestDepth(), {control:0}); enemy.tx_hps.text = "* * *"; _root.Enemy.push(enemy);

Topic: Game Programming / API integration - leaderboards problem

I’ve had a topic, reffering to this issue yesterday, and solved some code stuff there: http://www.kongregate.com/forums/4-programming/topics/165657-leaderboards-how-to ; just for the reference what has been mentioned.

Anyway thanks for any help – much appreciated!

Topic: Game Programming / API integration - leaderboards problem

Hello again!

Still cannot connect/display leaderboards with score var in my game (http://www.kongregate.com/games/Angloki/snake-pusher).

I have this for connection, written inside my code:

var kongregate;

_root.onLoad=function(){
kongregate = _global.kongregate;
kongregate.services.connect();
}

and following line, submitting score (var score checked “appear in leaderboards”):
_root.kongregate.stats.submit(“score”, score);

I really need to see how to make it work (not that the Snake Pusher is so awesome, but for my new project).

?debug… work only for AS3, I guess – I don’t see any statistics anywhere (just chat, game, more games and nothing in chat either).

Anyway – it doesn’t seem to connect properly or what else could be the cause of non-functioning leaderboards?

Topic: Game Programming / Leaderboards - how to?

I cannot trace in uploaded game, can I? When I try this test variable while in Flash via test movie, it isn’t connected to Kong, or it should be?

Anyway, as I tried it in Flash, test var was undefined..

According to tutorials here at Kongregate, incorporating stats should be supereasy – I’m still missing something.(

Thanks – no message this time, but when I’ve uploaded last version with this last addition, still I don’t see the leaderboards. How can I test the connection to Kong API?

Topic: Game Programming / Leaderboards - how to?

Indeed, I’m coding in AS2. I’ve seen somewhere around, that I should add also definition for kongregate var (see below), but then I get this message: “A class’s instance variables may only be initialized to compile-time constant expressions.”

var kongregate = _global.kongregate;
_root.kongregate.services.connect();

How do I find out if the connection to kong API is working?

Still no luck displaying leaderboards with this line:

_root.kongregate.stats.submit(“score”, score);

and making the score variable as a ‘Max’ statistic, while uploading new version with these changes.
Any ideas?

ed. I would really love to see the leaderboards.

I see – thanks for info.
So there is only this? :

kongregate.stats.submit(“HighScore”,398); //The user got a score of 398

Or there is something like kongregate.scores.submit(“score”, score); // how should I define what variable is the score for leaderboards?

Topic: Game Programming / Leaderboards - how to?

Hello! How to make the leaderboards panel display next to the game?
In my game ( http://www.kongregate.com/games/Angloki/snake-pusher ), I have these lines on proper places:

_root.kongregateScores.submit(score);
_root.kongregateServices.connect();

But no score boards – am I missing something again (obviously I do)?
Thanks!

Thanks for replies, I will go with SOL. Could anyone throw me some example, I’m a bit blunt (moved from QBASIC recently, seriously =)?

Topic: Game Programming / Saving variables

Hello: I’m developing a game that needs a lot of variables to be saved.

1. What is the best way to save variables?
2. I’ve seen some games that ask you to allow for saving directly on hard drive – pros & cons?
