arrayName[first index, second index];

Lol, did u even bother in reading that post?

EDIT: ugh, allready pointed out by senekis

EDITx2: Too bad, this thread was funny

Topic: Game Programming / Using 2D Arrays to Create Tile Maps

Also, i’d recommend you to create a TileMap class, and try to put everything that’s general in there, so you can reuse some code in other games :)

Memoization… NICE!. Almost 2 days ago i took a shot against this problem, and the only thing i got up to was backtracking (terrible, of course). Should´ve thought about this. This thread came in handy!

Thanks Ace_Blue :)

A kid that wants to be part of the community and dreams about being a hacker and make the best MMO ever? Totally understandable if u ask me.

Grown ups yelling at him, and doing whatever they can to show the others that they are better than the kid? That’s something to worry about if you ask me.

try that and be amazed.

For the rest: thanks! it wasnt what i was expecting, but still valuable info. And since my question was weird and bad written, i cant complain at all.

Topic: Game Programming / [as3] Number of asignations per frame

Hey guys!

Im working on a game that has to do a LOT of stuff per frame. I was wondering if someone has any experimental data on how many instructions per frame can as3 handle before it starts lagging? (of course, depending on the cpu). I want to be sure it’ll be needed before start implementing complicated algorithms to improve performance.

Thanks in advance :)

Topic: Game Programming / [AS3] Problem with multiple sounds playing at the same time

Hi everyone!

I have this problem, i have a “hit.mp3” sound thats supposed to be called whenever a bullet hits something. I exported it for ActionScript as “Hit” class. Im using this code to generate the sound:

 public function playHitSound() {
		var hit = new Hit();
		hit.play();
	 }

The first hit sounds perfectly, but if a second hit happens while the 1st one is playing, the second one comes out lagged, a lot. Any idea of why is this happening, and how should i fix it?

Thanks in advance :)

Topic: Game Programming / [AS3] hitTestObject performance question

Hi everyone :)

Does anyone know if the hitTestObject function has good performance?

Im asking this because i want to know if its worthy to add some checking before calling it, such as:

if (object1.distanceTo(object2) < (object1.radius + object2.radious) )
if (object1.hitTestObject(object2))
doSomething…

this way, i would call hit test object only in cases where the objects are likely to be hitting, improving performance if the 1st conditions time is << than hitTestObject time. My question is, does that inequality applies?

Thanks in advance :)
