I definitely didn’t have to hack for the badge when I earned it almost four years ago, but I guess it’s completely defunct now.

My issue is that now it seems like they changed the badge of the day, and because I already earned the other one, I can’t get the new one. Not very important, but a little frustrating.

Okay, sometime after I posted this, Exodrone mysteriously vanished from the Rewards Vault for me. In a closely related matter, the extra copy I purchased after upgrading my original copy has also somehow vanished from my collection. Just thought you should know.

EDIT: Yes, I realize this has already been captured in the current bug/error thread. I just wanted to make sure there weren’t any mixed signals.

Yeah, I check the badges page far more often than the quests page, and jump on new badges as soon as I spot them, so I ended up siding with the Marines before I even realized there was a competition. I have a feeling there was a lot of this going on.

From my informal survey of a few active chat rooms, it looks like Aliens are winning by a small margin. The number of people on both sides is completely dwarfed by the number of people that haven’t finished the quest for either.

Topic: Kongregate / New badge discussion

I am so tired of seeing the same terrible game badged over and over again just because some hack dev team re-skinned it, and the games that get badged are slowly becoming worse and worse in quality. Galaxy Online is the worst game so far, in a long string of boring, uninspired MMOs that look and play exactly the same.

I spend a lot of money on games I enjoy, and every time another one of these transparent cash grabs gets badged, I start to feel more and more guilty about my spending habits. Making me feel like I’m tossing my money into a black hole isn’t the way to get me to keep paying, Kongregate. Give badges to games that are actually good and enjoyable, to reward the developers for not phoning it in. Stop with this color-by-numbers fill-in-the-blank build-your-own-facebook-MMO bullshit.

You know, it’s nice if you can find the source images for the cards and tell everyone, that’s amusing trivia. But using terms like ‘ripped off’ or ‘copied’ shows how little you know about visual art and how difficult it is, and how smart artists base their studies off real-life objects with real life-lighting, cause, you know, maybe that would make the art look more realistic.

btw Van Gogh totally copied those sunflowers from a set of real sunflowers, what a ripoff copycat artist no skill gtfo.

There’s no problem with commercial artists basing their images on photos and other existing images, and I don’t think the OP was really trying to say that anything illegal or unethical is happening here.

The Tyrant card art walks a fine line, though, and some cards seem to apply considerably less “artistic interpretation” than others (look at Ajax’s arm/shoulder for wholesale art ripoff). The card art has been improving as time goes on, though — more than I can say for the metagame — so it seems that the artists are at least learning from their imitation.

Topic: Tyrant / [GUIDE] Haunt Battleground Effect

After playing a few rounds with my fear deck, it seems like the Summon may actually be a Summon on Death? It makes more sense thematically, and explains why I’ve been seeing really inconsistent results. It doesn’t explain why my Credo Masters were summoning as usual in one match, however.

EDIT: Structures also seem to get the ability, and I’ve caused several summons by repeatedly killing a regenerating BoD. Enclave Warp Gate does not seem to lose its regular summon skill.

I just played my credo masters, and they didn’t summon anything at all for the entire battle, so my theory now is that all units get a psuedo-summon ability, which gives a low chance of summoning a BT unit. Units with the Summon skill do not seem to have a higher chance of this summon occurring.

EDIT: And in the next battle, my Credo Masters suddenly started summoning Defenders. So my even newer theory is that this effect is completely broken.

It seems completely random; sometimes I’ll get a few summons in a row, and sometimes I won’t get any at all.

It is possible that my instances of summoning have actually been mimicked off of another unit with an actual summoning skill. I’ll pay more attention and try to see if that’s the case.

EDIT: Well, that’s not it. Nobody on either side had any summon units, and he got a few BT summons while I got nothing. My best guess is that the summon skill is only randomly assigned.

Topic: Tyrant / [Last Guide] Auto Faction's Net DMG

It’s been a long time since I worked on this, but I was feeling extra productive last night, so I managed to slap together a handful of fixes with a few new features. You can grab the new version of the code here.

A special thanks to leftylink for reviewing the code and giving some solid recommendations, to DarkBlood for pointing out the issues with the request headers, and to both of you for running interference on questions I was too lazy to answer. An additional thanks, as always, to anybody using the script and submitting bug reports.


What’s new in 1.6.0?

  • Externalized configurations! Here’s how it works:
    1. Run the script like you normally would.
    2. After the first time you run the script, you’ll notice that a config directory has been created in the script directory.
    3. Inside of this directory, you’ll find settings.yml, which will house all of your user settings (flashcode, user_id, et cetera), spreadsheet.yml, which can optionally house your Google Spreadsheet credentials, and report.yml, which will contain all of your report formatting settings.
    4. Any time you need or want to change these values, you can make a quick change to the appropriate file, instead of digging through the script to find them.
    5. Best of all? The next time I release an update script, you won’t have to copy or paste anything! Your settings will be safe and sound in the config directory.
  • The issue with Windows newlines messing up the GZipped cache files has been resolved.
    1. You’ll need to empty your existing cache directory before running the script again.
    2. The response from the Tyrant servers is now unzipped to its JSON format before caching.
    3. Because the cached files are now in plain text, you can dig through them to see exactly what information the server sends back.

With the next release, I plan to:

  • move the report format strings into an external configuration file
  • automatically update the tyrant version number (even though it doesn’t matter)

I’ll also take some time to look at the server responses post-conquest and see if there’s any useful new information that can be added to the reports. As always, let me know if you run into any problems, or have any questions or suggestions.

@chompiras: Try clearing your cache directory, and give this updated script a shot. If you’re still having issues, let me know and I’ll see what I can do. It seems like there’s some legitimately malformed JSON in these cases, so it’s either a problem with the data post-caching (like the GZip issues identified earlier), or the server is sending back bad data, which doesn’t seem to be the case for me.

Topic: Tyrant / [Dev] Tile Abuse

Have you considered possibly reworking the conquest idea so these exploits aren’t so easy in the first place? Banning seems a little extreme when the cause of these “exploits” is poor design. You can’t just add rules outside of the system and then ban anybody that doesn’t follow them. If you don’t want something to happen, find a way to keep it from happening in the game.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [Legacy of Heroes] Class Question - help pls

Your class affects two things: the order in which the four badges become available to you, and the bonuses associated with each badge.

You receive the bonus for each badge type represented on the cards you play, with the magnitude of the effect being determined by your hero’s level with that particular badge. So if, as an Acolyte with all four badges unlocked, you play a card with only a Psych badge in the lower left-hand corner, you will only get the Psych bonus (extra damage and recovery, in this case). If you play a card with only Sculpting and Power badges, you’ll just get whatever effects those badges grant.

Again, your class only determines (1) the order in which you get badges, and (2) the effect that your badges have when triggered.

In that vein, card skills are all-or-nothing. If you have the relevant badge unlocked even to level 1, the skill will be applied. So, beyond level 55 or so, all classes can (depending on how you use your skill points) trigger bonus skills on all cards.

When you unlock another class (for the steep cost of 25 SP), the only benefit is that you can then play as that class, which ignores all of the badge levels you obtained for your original class. Unless you’re willing to spend money to reset your badge skills or to buy more skill points, I recommend sticking with your original class.

Really? The computer runs completely broken commanders that aren’t available to players, with more than ten cards, and you want to complain about a (bad) extra legendary in their deck? If the computer had to “follow the rules”, there would be no challenge whatsoever.
