Correction: NOT 1000 point rise. well over 100,000 points. a bit of a difference that.
my last run [after taking vesperbot’s suggestion and returning to sacrificing the wild, jumped from 7,414 previously to 124,857.

Endurance runs are much shorter than they were before I maxed out all the difficulty levels, of course, but leveling up happens much, much faster.

Gawd, I love this forum. SO many beneficial tips! Who knows how long it would have taken me, way back when, to discover for myself the wonders of Y/L/O, for instance? And now this – - – - -

Yep, that’s generally true – and what I was doing till I tried the tip Thawn-Kol posted. At that point, I was still struggling along trying to build up manna. So I held onto the wild gem in order to save the points used to open new gem types. And boy-howdy! This method has been working wonders! I usually leap up 1000 points from my most recent run [often ones I had already pulled an endurance run on] and level up 4 or 5 levels.

Hmmmm — by now I may have advanced far enough to start sacrificing the wild gem again and create the colors of my choosing instead of having them dictated. I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

Tried a combo of Thawn-Kol’s and Goggy’s method and, with a few tweaks, it works wonders!
Pulled points from anything non-essential and piled them all into Focus and Replenish. I maxed out wild gem, triple gem, magnify and flexibility. Any leftover points [usually fewer than 5] I stick into speed hits and power hits. Then I put the wild gem in a tower and give it a couple of amps. if an already open gem matches one of the colors of the wild, I put that in the amps – usually a 4 and a 5. if not, asap, I open a matching gem. then let the game play. I usually increase the level of the wild gem once, maybe twice. Then, how the manna pours in! I usually jump up another 50K points – at the point I am in the game, that usually takes me up one level. 9 more points to play with after every level? I can live with that.

Topic: GemCraft Labyrinth / Supergemming(GCL + GC2)

omg. omg. omg.
I’d never heard of supergemming. I’d recently lost my premium and had to restart from scratch on Kong [had been on Armor – - never again. Their help desk was less than useless in my time of need.]

So I was at level 110 or so and moving slowly. Building more than one 12th level gem was still a struggle. Well, Takiza solved my problem for me. I’m typing this while the game plays itself out. I’m virtually certain it won’t need my input any further. Several level 22 gems surrounded by amps with level 21’s in them. There’s one level 21 that would take 3x the amount of manna to duplicate as a number of the 22’s need. How did it DO that???

I’m sure I got some of the particulars wrong in the buildup – in fact I know I did. I was only able to make 3 level 5 gems to begin so I put a 6 in a trap and the 5 in an amp then built up from there duplicating the original gems as I went. But boy howdy – it worked like gang busters! It finished playing while I was typing this. 181 exp points! I’m off to do it again – if I can -— I’m in GCL and substituted lime for black. The maze I played had lime/orange to begin so I could save the points used to activate the gems needed. Maybe I can load up on focus this time and unlock orange or lime? It’s worth a shot. I’m not yet at the point in the maze where those two show up together much – aamof, that may be the only maze that has them yet [L-9.]

Anyway, this is a long-winded way of saying, THANK YOU TAKIZA!

Depends on where you are in the game. Early on, orange isn’t all that powerful. But once you can make level 8 or 9 gems, it can take off! Especially if you team it up with lime for the multiple hits. I like to build my initial major gem as 1L/1Y/2O and simply upgrade at those ratios. I place that gem a ways into the maze, then later build the same level 3 gem and add only orange from there on. I place that gem right at the beginning. Maybe start there with a level 10 gem and keep adding orange to it – up to level 20 or so. Surround it with amps filled with pure orange gems and the manna just pours in.

I often end up with 3 or 4 level 20+ gems in traps surrounded by 18’s or higher in amps. Once that’s set up, I hit auto-feed and go make dinner. When I come back, I’ve leveled up maybe 30 levels. Works like a charm every time.

I don’t know how far along you are but may I recommend changing the ratio to y/l/o = 25/25/50? It goes out and grabs manna by the hair and drags it back kicking and screaming. And you can get exactly the same results as to completing endurance runs with full settings and receive all the battle amulets. The increased manna harvesting makes up for the weaker gem, imo. So leveling up happens way faster. Just a thought.

my favorite is Y/L/O heavy on the O.
in the first trap inside the maze, 1Y/1L/2O and build up from there with orange only. the 2nd trap starts with 1L/1Y/2O and upgrades to keep the ratios the same. In my previous game [had to start over recently due to a crash] I could complete any level using 2 traps and 12 amps. Those were the days. I’ll get there again – some day.

Topic: GemCraft Labyrinth / Traps

oops. Forgot to mention: Do you have your wild gem fully charged? It can make all the difference in the world. I’d forgotten to do that once I got it unlocked during this latest game. I just put it on full power [even pulling a lot of points out of Focus in order to do it] after I wrote the note above. And the difference in play was ammmmmazing! I jumped from starting with a grade 4 gem in one tower and one amp with a grade 3 to starting with a trap with a grade 6 in it and two amps with 4’s in them. And got much further along in the endurance run.

Just thought I’d toss that into the mix in case you’d overlooked that option.

Topic: GemCraft Labyrinth / Traps

First things first: Traps.
The best combo imo, by FAR, is lime/yellow/orange. Since you’ve made it to the final pylon, you’re strong enough to make orange the top-dog in your combos. Are you in a position to create a level 8 gem at the beginning of the level along with a trap and maybe 4 amplifiers? If so, place it just far enough inside the maze to allow it to cycle on before the monsters reach it and let-er-rip! You should be able to complete most of the mazes with that single trap alone. Asap, finish rounding out your amps up to 6, then start raising your gems in level. The orange, along with the multi-hits from the lime, will allow you to do it quite fast.

My favorite strategy is to do what I outlined above at maybe square 16 or so. Then, after I’ve amassed enough points, build another AAA/T/AAA complex closer to the beginning, start with a level 3 gem [1Y/1L/2O] and build from there using only orange. Then sit back and watch the manna pour in. I get two or three level 20+ gems in all traps and at least 18’s in the amps. After that is all set up, I just hit the auto-feed and let the game play itself out. 15 – 20 level-ups are average for most levels.

As to the final level, it’s been a while since I played it [I had to restart from scratch a few weeks ago due to a crash.] It needs a different strategy from most. You’ll need towers, since the Forgotten is flying. Forget about traps here unless you have time to build a manna farm while setting up your towers. It will come in handy. Then, iirc, you’ll want Lime/Yellow/ Orange in some of the towers and Lime, Yellow, Purple in the others [Orange and Purple in the strong positions.] You’ll need the purple to tear down the Forgotten’s armor. Lime for the multihits and Yellow for the power punch. Lots of towers stationed all over the map and as many amps as you can put around them. Take your time powering up the pylon while you get all that set up.

Good luck.

Topic: GemCraft Labyrinth / Saving to another slot

Would like to save a low-level game to a different slot than the one I’m currently playing. Seems like I’ve been able to do it before but now I can’t remember how. Any help/reminder would be appreciated.

Also I would recommend replaying the first few levels on a higher difficulty and get to level 58-60.

Thanks so much Sarlecc. I had been avoiding adding difficulty reasoning that, as I was doing so poorly already, what was the point? I’m so glad you recommended it! Jumped from 3,000+ on f-1 to 49,878.
Now my course is clear. Every single field already played is about to be revisited.

Thanks again.

Thanks, Sarlecc. I’ve been going back and playing previous levels in endurance mode but, amazingly, I usually end with a LOWER score than previously. And that doesn’t help me. I’ll try boosting difficulty and see if it helps.

Personally I like barrage in traps to get +30% specials

Sounds lovely – - if I had barrage. Where does it appear?

I imagine I haven’t unearthed that part of the map yet. I’m level 50 and still struggling to stay alive on levels O and L. It’s pretty hard when my opening gem is a lvl 3 and then only one. I’ll keep plugging.

I’m assuming that orange and green still ignore armor? So no need for the armor-ignoring spell in a trap that’s primarily one of those colors? Right?

thanks Sarlecc – - I’ll try again. maybe one wasn’t fully charged though I thought they all were.

???
so what’s the point of amplifiers? what do they amplify, exactly?
I placed a 2x red/green amp next to a 3x red/green tower and the tower gem changed not at all. power stayed the same; specials stayed the same.
so, again, what’s the point? are they worth having in this version?

OK. I see lots of people here who are way farther along than I am so surely someone can help me.

I’m on level V1 with the ensnaring socket and 5 ensnaring nodes. I’m supposed to activate the nodes to get the socket to charge. All nodes activated but there is no change to the socket. Is it supposed to give some indication that it’s charging? Or have I missed something? Is there an invisible node somewhere that I have to freeze the entire path in order to find? Do I need to go outside at the stroke of midnight and dance under the moon? What?

Thanks.

Well dagnabit! When I go back and replay a level I’ve already played endurance on – every time, without fail, – I finish considerably poorer than I did the first time. Now, obviously, I’m more powerful than I was the first time – - often considerably more. So does anyone else experience this?

How the hey am I supposed to build my levels in order to tackle the fields further on in the game? Any suggestions?

I’m trying to breach the tome on B5. Freeze spell is fully charged and I save my bolts for when giants approach. And still I can’t open it in time.

So – - I’ve got a couple of un-socketed fragments that increase % damage to giants. But I would have to replace an initial mana booster or two and they’re all pretty hefty [39 – 60 range.] So is it worthwhile to dump mana for giant killing enhancement?

thx.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to turn off the info screen in GC:CS? I’ve tried I and ctrl-I and shift-I and am at a loss. And there are times I NEED to see underneath that window!
Any help greatly appreciated.

I see folks talking about choosing gems other than the ones available at the start of a map and about using bolt. I haven’t figured out how to do either of those yet. [just got the ‘freeze’ spell so maybe those will come later?]

I’m at lvl 32. will those features arrive later in the game or am I missing something?
