Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [Zombie Misfits] is closing down Aug. 15

Its probably no longer feasible for the devs to maintain the game. I believe the devs are hosting the game themselves. In addition I think the game was built where levels and other elements are broken up into several pieces (multiple swfs) that are dynamically loaded as you play the game. I imagine this was done mainly to make it difficult for unscrupulous types to hack and/or host the game on other sites. But this also consumes a lot of bandwidth with gamers hitting the servers on a daily basis. And throw in the fact that not a lot of gamers bought into the whole “in-game” economy approach…it may be that when they crunched the numbers any revenue they were taking in no longer covered the cost of maintenance. My hope is that the devs produce a standalone version and try selling the game through Steam or some such.

I doubt that. At one point I wasn’t even getting the loading screen just a 404 error page. That leads me to think that the developer is working out some kinks on the server-side. Hopefully they’ll have it resolved soon.

Having the same issue. The game no longer starts event though the loading bar is full. If I let it sit for a while I get a message asking that I refresh the page, but refreshing the page does nothing to fix the problem…

Found a typo. The text should read “at your disposal” not “at your disposable”.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [Zombie Misfits] Development Questions

This game looks like a massive endeavor in terms of development. How did you approach building it? Did you use a MVC framework or an Enity/Component based one (like PBE). Inquiring minds want to know!

I’ve played a lot of TD games in my time and Kingdom Rush was a real stand out for me. I recommend that you play it through to its completion. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by what the game has to offer.

Here’s a challenge for you. Achieve brilliant on all levels at a level no higher than 20 (15 if you think you can do it).

That may be true but I don’t think EP5 will get to skip to the front of the queue because of it. Well, maybe if someone were to bribe them…

Remember guys, Epic War 5 is just one game of many that the Kongregate Staff has to review. It may be that they have a large queue to sift through before they get to EP5.

My thinking exactly. Which leads to the following question for Mr. Sudarto. What would it take to be a part of the dev. team for Epic War VI?

I think that the heroes should have like a set of moves that cost mana to perform. For example, in epic war 4 one of the heroes was Simon the Magician, each upgrade gives them a new move, Lv.2 Dragon Flare 45Mana (his dragon would breathe a flame that hits all enemies in front of him), Lv.3 Bolt Drop 70Mana (Simon drops a bolt of lightning on top of a random enemy),Lv.4 Frostflame 115Mana (simon blows a breath of ice and the dragon breathes a gale of fire at the same time) Lv.5 Glacier 155Mana (Simon makes a wall of ice kinda like his basic attack and it begins to move forward damaging all in its way, moves a set distance)

This actually sounds pretty damn good, but it’d be too hard to do for EW5….maybe some ideas in the Sixth. Other people comment on this please! (To find what people think, so some could be added by Rudy at a later date)

@SirPent: You seem to have insider knowledge of EW5’s progress. Are you a part of the development team by any chance? If so, is there any chance they might consider taking on a freelance flash developer in the event Epic War 6 gets made? I have some cool ideas that would help to push the series forward, even better I have the coding skills to implement them…

I suppose that makes sense. I suppose I’ll just have to create a topic in the general area and discuss it there.

And one more thing. It would be nice if a game page had a direct link to its dedicated forum (assuming it has one) prominently displayed somewhere.

I just finished playing Epic War 4, and while I did leave a comment I wanted to make a few suggestions concerning gameplay and whatnot. Sadly, I could not find a dedicated forum for the game in which to do so.
Is it contingent on the developer to create the forum or can players like myself request one?

Topic: Kongregate / Suggestions

I’d like to suggest a few ideas. However, I don’t want to make a repeat suggestion and I am not about to look through the 475 pages in thread to make sure that I’m not. So here’s a suggestion, use the initial post on page 1 to maintain an ongoing list of suggestions. That way we can quickly skim the list and not make duplicate suggestions.

Actually it does have a story. You are an evil overlord laying waste to so called “heroes” trying to steal your gems. Hey, its not Shakespeare but you gotta admit it is a nice little twist.

How about ‘units’, for example a new tower, the wizard tower, could be used to summon battle sprites which attack heroes until killed by said heroes, just imagine the possibilities of this tower

The term ‘units’ simply will not do, ‘minions’ is far more appropriate :).

Topic: General Gaming / [Cursed Treasure: Don't Touch My Gems!] Got this crazy idea for the sequel...NEW TOWER TYPES!!!

@Snozmonkey: I really like the Golem Tower idea but instead of just throwing rocks I think golems could work more like barriers. Imagine having 2 or more golems adjacent to each other. At no more that two tiles apart they can periodically sustain barrier fields. If two Golems are on Dessert tiles a beam of red energy (almost like a lazer) will connect them for a given period. Any enemy that passed through the beam will suffer fire damage. If the golems are on frost tiles they suffer ice damage and maybe a slow status effect and for grass tiles poison status effects.

Why would you need buttons for towers and upgrades? I don’t really see why it would be uncomfortable to play. Could you explain in more detail…

Topic: General Gaming / [Cursed Treasure: Don't Touch My Gems!] Got this crazy idea for the sequel...NEW TOWER TYPES!!!

@GOWfan1:
I’ve been thinking about your Dragon idea, and how it might work. Say every now and then players get a hidden bonus level after fulfilling some criteria. Now the goal of these bonus levels differ from regular levels where its not about protecting your gems but other things like intercepting enemy caravans, challenging the “heroic” paladin and such. In one scenario, you might capture goods in the caravan which may be a cache of dragon eggs. Now these eggs are one-time use items that you can install in a tower. Most egg types are specific to a type of tower, others can be “mixed” as per my earlier discussion. Some eggs might require the tower to be at a certain level before it can be placed on a tower. Or maybe there is some kind of incubation period before it hatches.

Just thought of something even cooler. It would be interesting if we could create a mixed class type of tower. You know how sometimes you have these ambiguous looking tiles on the map that looks like you could build more than one type of tower on it? What if you could? Typically you have a “transition tile” that sits between a pure “desert” tile and a “grass” tile. You could build a “mixed” tower starting with either a den or temple but with new skill trees. Imagine combining a Ballista Den with a Burning Temple…oh the carnage.

Topic: General Gaming / [Cursed Treasure: Don't Touch My Gems!] Got this crazy idea for the sequel...NEW TOWER TYPES!!!

After playing CT1 and the follow-up level pack; the sequel is going to have to bring things up a notch. What better way to do that than to add new Tower types.

So far we have Orc, Demon and Undead Towers. How about adding a Drow Tower. The Drow are a malevolent subterranean race of Elves residing in the deepest levels of the Underdark (at least according to the Forgotten Realms novels). The Drow or Dark Elves are a common trope of Fantasy literature so they should fit right in.

Drow towers are spires or obelisks in terms of construction with eerie glowing web like facets strewn across the structure’s surface. When hit by a Level 1 Drow tower, so-called heroes are temporarily slowed. As it levels up the tower acquires the ability to teleport enemies back a few steps or trap them in webbing making them easy picking for other towers.

Another tower class could be based on a werewolf theme or if you really want to go outside the box, a Borg themed tower would be cool.

I figure in terms of gameplay its best to stick to the existing formula where only three towers can be used per level but with the option to select which tower types to use per level. That could really up the replay value.

Anyone else have any ideas for new Tower types…
