“I don’t know about new classes. The skill system is getting a lot more in-depth than it was in Chronicles, but that necessarily means adding more classes is a lot more work.
I have considered some sort of multiplayer support, but if it’s competitive it really requires the combat system be balanced around it, which is tricky. Up til now the balance between players and monsters has been quite asymmetrical. Players have high damage and low HP, with monsters the reverse. If it’s co-operative, I’m still not sure how that would work outside of battle. So adding multiplayer is a technical issue but it’s also a serious design challenge."
AAh, health/damage asymmetry.

what if the enemy is resistant to fire and earth, but not physical? Flexibility usually beats out power, which is why anyone who can hit for 3+ elements ismore awesome than someone who excels in one element

The character-transition thing is probably true of real games, and the closest thing I can think of are those multi-disc games for the Playstation (Final Fantasys VII-IX, Grandia, etc.)

Bide Time: Stores energy from being hit to be discharged at a later time.
Two-Way Cannon: Harms itself and a two foes for the amount of damage absorbed by Bide Time; cannot kill user
So, the general idea is for it to start off with TWC, then Bide Time using OVER 9000!!! every so often. After about 30ish turns, it will Two-way Cannon your teammates dead and be weak enough for an ending blow.
