Topic: General Gaming / Papa's Pizzeria - Inadequate Points

Focus, even if that was implemented, it would change nothing, as people would then complain, for instance, about how badge “X”, which is worth 45 points, is way harder than badges “Y” and “Z”, worth 50 points each.

Matchbox said it all. We have to remember that every badge is created by the same guy, and his assumptions of “hard” and “lenghty” may differ greatly from ours.

Topic: Kongregate / The new brazilian mod!

@ greg, mike and every other mod or staff member I ever harassed in my quest to give “Orgulho” a fair moderator:

I am creating this to publicly thank every one involved in appointing WillianGallis as a brazilian moderator. It was an enourmously nice surprise to log in today and see that we now have a present mod to supress most of the community-disrupting activity inside our beloved room. He is a responsible user who, as far as I’m concerned, will be fair and just in his judgement.

Also, I would like to apologize if I ever gave any of you any trouble while insisting on the addition of a br mod. I can finally lay low, quiet and satisfied.

I guess that’s it. Happy new year to everyone!

Topic: Kongregate / KongregARG?

ARGs are soooooo cool! Too bad they demand too much time to be made, and kong’s staff don’t seem to have that much spare time :P.

We had a pretty good moment with an ARG here in Brazil: as part of an ARG by Coca-cola to promote one of their local drinks, they created the homepage of a company called Arkhos Biotech, in which they defended that the whole Amazon Forest had to be sold to international companies in order to be preserved.

Some days after the creation of the site, one of our senators made an incredibly aggressive speech, inside the Senate, reffering to the fictional company as “one of the boldest attacks to our sovereign land”. Apparently, he didn’t care much for doing a more extensive research inside the company’s home page, since several links led to the ARG’s official site. ¬¬

Too bad the domains used by that ARG are all expired, or I would post the english links for you guys to see.

EDIT: Found the main video! Click here to watch it. Even right now, on youtube, there are people fighting about whether this is real or not, LOL.

Yay, got the badge thanks to all the help in here! =)

Funny fact: I paused the game after passing the restaurant to say in chat I have achieved it, and people started to ask for tips. I gave them some and then returned to the game, only to click “Restart” instead of “Return” ¬¬. Gladly, the badge is given to you when you pass it and not when you finish the round haha

I guess we could wait for some real content to be written to pay for a domain name, just like arcane said. Also, when I get some time off and a private computer access (I’m at an University right now) I’ll look up for some other portuguese writers, so maybe we can translate it all and have a two-language option for the wiki.

Yeah, I got it aswell. I’ll have two final tests today and tomorrow, and some strategic plannings I have to go to on Saturday and Sunday, so I’ll probably be making my first edits and learning wikidot’s syntax on Monday, to start helping out!

I just signed up, hope the message got to you. I can help translating topics if you’re interested in expanding it to other languages, and I can write new guides and entries since I’ll be working away from home during theses vacations (“summer break” is in December and January in Brazil :P) so I’ll have A LOT of free time to type in stuff.

If my sign up message didn’t get to you, just let me know through here and I’ll try again or send you an e-mail. =)

Topic: Kongregate / Your favorite moderators? Preferred room owners?

So when they will actually find out it’s not “Suggest a Moderator” but “Your favorite moderators? Preferred Room Owners?”

Jude, we don’t have moderators, and our room owner never logs in. I’m not defending the guy who’s appointing himself, but our only way to contribute to this topic, as far as Orgulho is concerned, is to nominate someone for a mod position. Afterall, what use to Orgulho room it would have if I came here and posted “Oh, I think Dragily is one of the most thoughtful mods out there (which I actually think so)”? I’m sorry if it’s annoying to nominate people in a thread named “Your favorite moderators? (…)”, but you have to understand it is our only choice.

bq. Not all though. We don’t speak the language in some rooms so you didn’t really get to see the other 90++ moderators, I guess…

Didn’t quite understood what you meant. I’m aware I don’t know all the mods, that’s why I said “All of the moderators I know (…)”.

Topic: Kongregate / My thoughts on future automated user moderation

THEN the 10 seconds would begin, to give anyone who objects one “final chance” to vote. I imagine that most voting would last somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 seconds

Yeah, that’s what I tought. It’s just that, when I read your ideas, the first thing that came to my mind was the image of myself playing Ether Cannon while reading chat and seeing a silencing vote pool taking place, knowing that those 2 seconds in which I would have to take my mouse off the game and click “yes” or “no” would probably kill me. But, on a second thought, I really don’t think an extra 20 seconds would make that much of a difference for players in that kind of situation…

bq. Also, about recommendations: Users should only be allowed to make a certain amount per week or month.

The idea of limiting recommendations could be extended to votes for or against the applicants, and it could be a pretty good feature to limit the abuse of the system.

Topic: Kongregate / My thoughts on future automated user moderation

Once the vote is initiated and regular users start voting, the person will be silenced if the number of people voting “yes” reaches 3 more than the number of people voting “no,” and this 3-person lead remains for a full 10 seconds

Those 10 seconds would only be enough if you had a way of pausing every single game. Since there’s not (YES, I’m looking at you Ether Cannon!), I agree with Alison that the time should be increased to 30, or maybe even 40 seconds.

Other than that, I find it a great idea! What worries me the most is the fact that it looks like a rather large group of friends could easily pick on other users, but we’ll never know if that’s really doable unless the system is implemented!

Topic: Kongregate / Your favorite moderators? Preferred room owners?

Ok, just to clear things up, since my name was mentioned a lot: if there were only room for one Orgulho mod, I would GLADLY forfeit any indications to see one of the three I mentioned above as mods. That is because right now I don’t even have access to the site most of the week, since I live on another city to study and, except on weekends and holidays, the only place I use the internet from is the University’s labs, where chats are blocked. I’ll soon buy a notebook to get home access, but right now I would personally feel much more satisfied to know the chat is in good hands than to know I have been given extra power.

And Lucas, you need to get your facts straight: you are not the first one asking to be a moderator. During the few months I’ve been here trying to help the staff in finding a reliable way to appoint foreign mods, A LOT of users (foreign or not) have came to the forums asking, begging and creating alts to beg for them, all with the objective of being nominated as mods. And it is with the greatest satisfaction that I inform you that NONE of then ever succeeded. There’s one main thing you forget when putting on your little show thinking no one would know Melinha is your alt: you do not get a mod position by begging for it; you get it by being helpful, toughtful and a pleasant person to be around. All of the moderators I know are not good users because they are mods, but quite the opposite: they became mods because they were (and still are) good users.

Anyway, I stand by my last post on this topic: Primo_Dang, xklamation and Jeronimo would all be perfect for the job.

On the subject of moderators or room owners for Orgulho, I see 3 users who would probably be the best for the job: xklamation (I’m not appointing her only because she just did it to me!), Primo_Dang and Jeronimo. All three can speak pretty good English, are responsible and present users.

A filter would be nice too. As Primo, I really don’t mind unfiltered chat, but it’s not everyone who thinks like that. If you guys would like, just let us know and we’ll put our cuss-word knowledge to the test to help you create the filter. :P

Topic: Kongregate / A new kind of problem

Give us a moderator that speaks those kind of languages, please.

I can do that with the portuguese chat, but I’m just a regular user and it would be naive to think that my opinion alone would be enough to make someone a mod. I bet that don_krieg would also have some names to appoint, but in the end it’s the same deal: internet is no place to trust in strangers. That’s why I understand and endorse the way mods are chosen nowadays: if, on one side, we see no mods for the language-specific chats, on the other we see the extremely low ammount of mods who got their status revoked. That means the process is being efficient at choosing the right people for the job. What needs to be done now is to find an efficient way to get that experience to be as good in the foreign chats as it was in the English-speaking ones. Jugón’s experience wasn’t really good, I heard… But it’s nice to see that the users are not the only ones worried about the current situation.

bq. Within a couple of weeks, (hopefully) room owners will be able to appoint room-specific moderators. I think that this will go a long way in keeping issues like this a bit more under control.

I was very impressed when I finally read your topic on this subject, and I do think that you guys have come up with a pretty nice solution. Also as a veteran on online communities, I got to say this is the first one where I see such a big number of mods and admins participating actively in the community, and where a user’s opinion is actually heard. That’s pretty satisfying. But isn’t the choice for the right room owner as hard as it is today to appoint foreign mods?

Topic: Kongregate / A new kind of problem

From my experience in these last few weeks, and also after reading some posts in the forum, I decided to create a topic to address a new problem that only lately started in Orgulho chatroom. I’ll elaborate on it.

The lack of moderation always contributed for an enviroment that was rather chaotic in Orgulho. In other words, you could chat with friendly people for hours, or witness 2 or 3 users suddently logging in and starting fights with heavy cussing and racism. Anything could happen, really. But lately, what I see is a different configuration.

Chat is peaceful most of the time. But there are a handful of users who, when together, can destroy the whole enviroment by doing exactly what milskidasith said when complaining about the “Games Workshop” in here. Moreover, they usually do another thing which is what bothers me the most: they discuss frequently about the better ways to cheat the games, hack high scores and such, giving each other advice and sharing links to programs who could help them. Also, they commonly trade each other’s passwords to get badges that one of them might not be able to get. One of them even claimed to have access to greg’s account!

I decided to make a topic on it because I never saw anything like that being discussed. I don’t know if it’s common on other rooms, or if it was common on Orgulho before and I just failed to notice, but either way I see there’s no rule about these things. The behavior guidelines only predict punishment for illegal activities like sharing pirated software, but says nothing about sharing freewares and programs that would make it easier to edit stuff and hack highscores, or teaching people how to use them while in chat. Personally, despite the fact that hacked highscores don’t affect me directly, it’s a shame to know you’ll never have that high score on that game you rock at just because some kid learned he could press some buttons, type 999999 and voilá. And to make it worse, he learned how to do it while reading the chat window!

People tend to forget what the badges are about. They’re not there to get you points. They’re there as an incentive to make you go deeper in that game you otherwise wouldn’t even notice, and to bond the community in a healthy way as it tries to overcome the challenge it was given. Some users have to constantly be remembered about that. Others won’t ever understand it and try to cheat the system any way they can. And that’s when a mod has to step in.

I won’t be publicly saying the names of the users involved in this. In fact, damijin is already aware of some of them, since I tend to make lots of reports. I even called poor Dragily once, to make him stop a fight he couldn’t even understand (and for that I won’t get tired of thanking you, man! :P). Also, I have 2 or 3 names of users that would be great as mods, and one specially who would probably be the best room owner among those who are here more often. But, being one of the only brazilians who post on this forum, I tend to be a little unmotivated about appointing them, since, from what it looks like, appointments for moderators and room owners are only taken into account if made by another mod or by a massive number of users.

Anyways, I hope this doesn’t goes by unnoticed. And I also hope I’m not being too picky/annoying. Finally, anyone who was ideas and toughts about what I’ve just written, please fell free to comment!

Cheers,
~not.

Topic: Kongregate / Your favorite moderators? Preferred room owners?

Damn! This topic’s title REALLY doesn’t express the importancy of it! In fact, I was only bothered to look at it right now, thinking “OK, the thing has A LOT of answers, maybe it’s not only another topic like the ones to rate the badges.” lol

As the brazilian who annoys mods and staff the most to see good moderation on Orgulho, I have to say that we REALLY need someone who’s commited enough to have that room instead of luchacho (who looks more like a mod’s alt :P). I can’t nominate anyone right now because I kinda gave up on that room due mostly to 2 or 3 users who lately are being REALLY disrupting (and to think one of them wants to be a mod… Gosh, that room would be doomed if he got that position :P). So I’ll hang out in there more often now and try to see some names who would be apt for the job! =)

Oh, and for the record: Sinner, the “kids” who destroy Orgulho sometimes are not that young. Personally, I refer to people as “kids” when they are stupid or imature, and that’s what happens on the portuguese chat: some guys, maybe not that young, are acting like kids. On the other hand, we have a lot of young users who act mature and are not “kids” (Kong even has mods which are VERY young).

Thats my 2 cents. Now I’m off to read both the “rate the badges” topics to see if they are as important as this one. :P

Also remember that the Dragon’s gun has a minimum range, so if your Shield is too near he will change targets and attack the Sword.

Myself, I did it by controlling both the Shield and the Sword. I tried to keep the Shield within the dragon’s range at all times, while taking care of the Sword so it didn’t get blocked by the Shield or too close to the Dragon. Eventually, I managed to get enough shots to kill it.
