Patches to Olympus Expansion

  • King of Duels anti-collaboration & improvements
    • Increased King of Duels minimum custom deck to 85% of potential power.
    • Added prestige score bonus for fighting high-scoring players close to or above your score.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Fixed incorrect Olympus boss completion count (area 2 was displaying as 3).
    • Fixed attack formula for arena and mystic fights for high level players so they and allies do not deal negative damages.
    • Fixed incorrect arena and mystic fight status lines (eg. blocked stated as misses).

Not sure about the 2M HP being added part, but if you dealt over 2B damage then none of your additional damage will lower the actual bosses HP.

It just took a while to understand the issue – while the key eating delay was added a long time ago, people adjusted to a certain speed to get around it, but with the new explore rate limit it became problem again.

We do receive ad revenue share but it’s insignificant compare to Gem’s potential, it can’t even recoup the cost of the servers. That is why we can definitely use some help to spread news of the expansion to past players to get them back into the game.

The change has deployed and hopefully will take much of the frustration out, and definitely now less keys getting eaten up even compared to prior to the update.

Btw, the problem really isn’t not we don’t want to take constructive criticisms, as it’s not the first time we released an expansion (probably more major expansion released on Dream World than most of games here on Kong). What is bothersome is that with each expansion we released, we see less positive effects (for example, I can count number of players who bought Gems on Kong in last 2 days with one hand). And then when you have self-entitled players like Wingpin come in here complaining about a minor anti-scripting change as if it’s the end of the world, it really doesn’t give us any encouragement to make any further expansions to the game.

It appears that there always a short delay before the key can be registered (even before this update) so battle screens don’t get messed up when people hold down keys. This also means explore keys were getting eaten often even before this expansion. If we remove that key delay then start spamming keys, then we do get more black screens than normal. We will be significantly reducing the key register delay (for non battle keys) and slightly increase the maximum explore speed a little (to undisclosed numbers) to improve this experience.

The rate limit actually wouldn’t cause the keystroke to be registered any later than it was registering before (because the delay is added between the keystroke and sending the request to the server). What might be causing this is that somehow your quick transition have been turned off (check your option settings). In fact, I never had intentional keystrokes eaten even when I tried spam keys so quick transition setting is likely your problem. If quick transition is still turned on and your keystroke is getting eaten, then they are pressed before the screen changes from black.

The change is made exactly so that you (and all other players) don’t have to become “that quick”.

First, it’s not practical to manually run 2 explores per second at a constant rate before adding the limit, because even if you can press that fast, it takes time for server to respond and browser to render the result. If you press before the server responds and browser completes the parsing, the key is wasted, and wrong key presses are also wasted as different encounters that requires different keys. So for example if you time yourself at 36 presses in 10 seconds, you aren’t counting how many of those keys aren’t registered by the server unless you are precise and instant as auto scripts.

We didn’t arrive at 1 second by pulling random numbers out of thin air, it’s done by manually spamming all keys at human possible speed through hundreds of energy without reading the screen for hundreds of energy, and it averaged about 800ms per explore on average over the long period (no boss fights). When spamming keys with the delay added, so we were triggering the black screen for up to 500ms, but definitely not for every time. When we actually wait for screen to render before key pressing, we rarely seen the forced delay at all. So even if you the speed and stamina to play the way the game manually in a way it isn’t designed to, you can save maybe 20 minutes top over 6000 energy a day.

The bottom line is that we don’t need players to speed through the game faster than one explore per second, which is very reasonable speed to play the game unless you are just constantly spamming keys without fully parsing the screen. Yes, those with super fast connection and located near our server may occasionally get the brief screen delay when you press keys too fast, but it’s quite acceptable way to level the playing field for everyone.

Perhaps you can elaborate on why it takes 6-7 hours to mist cap when you are spending 1 energy per second or 3600 energy per hour. I would be happy to lower the mist cap on this server to 3000 to match FB if the key complaint is that now it takes too long to key spam through 5000, or I can help specific players to lower their cap if no one else requires it.

It’s set to what we believe and tested as a very reasonable speed limit for “playing” the game, not spamming keys together before comprehending the fully rendered screen. You may be super fast, but I am afraid you will just have to adjust to a slower key input rate, as we won’t be making the game friendly to scripts that simulate instant key spamming.

You don’t have to hit the key more than once if the delay is triggered. There is at least 2 actions required each explore, and hitting the server twice per second is already very fast. When we tested on development server we basically had 0 ms ping and manually spamming keys without looking at the screen with quick-transition barely triggers the delay. If it’s still too slow for you, then please think of the limit as fair slicing of the server load. You don’t need to worry about script detection unless you are running one as we ignore the occasional false positives.

After near 2 years, the game needed another expansion to give our loyal players something new to look forward to and new reasons to continue to play and support the game. So we spend some extra efforts and long overtime during weekends to squeeze this expansion in as early as we could without delaying other projects.

Since we won’t be getting a homepage spotlight for this expansion, it would be great if everyone can help and show support by spreading the news of the new expansion to past Dream World players.

Mount Olympus

Brave dreamers have conquered the corners of Dream World and brought peace to the civilians. However, their proud actions have been seen as arrogance by the Ancient Gods. The angered Deity on Mount Olympus have declared war on the “vain mortals”, as they opened a path through Mount Killjoy. Do you have the brawn and balls to face angry Gods?

  • Mount Olympus
    • Entrance available to level 104+ players at Mount Killjoy
    • “Bosses only” area with 21 unique new bosses divided into 3 areas.
    • Fight 80 mini bosses in each area before fighting the guild shared main boss.
    • Bosses does not have instant kill the second skill is hard to survive for most players.
    • Collect 18 new 6-star cards and 3 new 7-star cards.
    • Area 2 and 3 drops the new Gods Gear (see below)
  • Level/Cap increases
    • Player level cap increased to 110
  • New Gods Gear Equipments
    • Ultimate item set with highest base stats and attribute bonuses
    • Weapon 64% boss damage
    • Armor 32% boss protection
    • God Ring with 45% damage bonus (Mystery Box Only item)
    • Gods item drops in Mystery Boxes for level 106+
    • Gods armor and weapon drops in Mount Olympus 2 and 3.
  • 2 New Allies
    • Available to level 100+ players
    • Fairy Queen – Gigaheal 3X more than megaheal, shield, block (full defensive)
    • Belial – Evilness (15% base damage bonus), block, copy (higher trigger than others)
  • 5 New badges
    • Master Duelist badge for 10,000 wins
    • God of Monsters badge for 100K Monster Arena Points.
    • 3 new boss badges for killing 200 of each new boss.
    • Rewards maximum energy cap and refills like past badges
  • Black Market Improvements
    • The market may now sell heavily pre-enhanced (200-500) items at small odds
    • Adjusted Buy Now price so lower tier equipments becomes cheaper
    • Adjusted starting bid prices on rings and items to avoid time wasting low bids
  • King of Duels (anti-collaboration) improvements
    • Defender card random shuffled differently per each attacker
    • Setting battle deck to below 80% of maximum power will automatically reset to highest potential deck. (Updated 4/6)
  • New key shortcuts and anti-scripting improvements
    • ‘j’ shortcut added to character screen (updated)
    • ‘f’ shortcut added to guardian screen
    • Removed scripting warning popup during battle but will log silently if player constantly triggers it
    • Added force delay to limit 1 explore action per second. This is very reasonable threshold and will help us easily determine scripters.
  • Bank Storage Improvements
    • Increase bank storage up to 80=>120
    • Monster Arena passes stored in bank can now be used without retrieving into inventory
  • Other Improvements
    • Improved defense formula so defense higher than 900 will receive slightly less damage than before.
    • Improved defense formula so higher defense will receive less damage as when attacked by mobs significantly higher level.
    • Mystery Boxes is now 25% more likely to drop pills (16% drop increase to 20%).
    • Devil equipments (the first set, not the greater set) can now be vaulted with enhances removed.
    • Equipment names now reflect number of enhances they have.
    • Battle results now displays round counts, round count also now increase at start of player turn instead of mob turn.
    • Viewing other players profile now shows their ring as well.
    • Fixed “Back to Area Map” buttons from mystic mine and Atlantis explore screens, added the button for mines battle.
    • Other minor tweaks, bug fixes, and improvements

Thanks for your feedback Adsum_di. The game have evolved quite much up to the last couple expansions, from Demon Gates to Alien Portal, from Isendel to Atlantis, from Mothership to Fallen, from Mystic War to Faction War, from upgradable ally skills to Talisman skills, from Hell to Black Market, from Monster Arena to King of Duels… Also, each expansion we have taken many feedback for improvements through the suggestion thread.

We are aware there has not been much development activities since the the KoD/Hell3 expansion, but the game is really showing it’s age with each expansion returning less and less bump in player activity and kreds revenue. Regardless, Dream World is and will always be my personal favorite game and is what help started our company (playmage), and to some extent also have helped Kongregate to get where it today. However, even Kongregate has taken Dream World out of the “premium partner” game list last year, which means we do not get more home page features for new expansions nor ads to help in bring new and old players. We don’t blame them; as business, it’s hard to avoiding making decisions based on in the interest of the company financials.

Now this is where Wangdi’s crowdfunding for next expansion idea could make sense, we aren’t even sure what would be the best logistic of doing one yet (eg. setup something up in-game or out-of-game), but I asked if anyone else would be interested if we set one up. Based on feedback on this thread, it seems most players are apathetic toward the idea. I posted in the other thread that we would still looking into the next expansion, but in the mean time expanded equipment enhance to 1200 hard cap and will expand level cap when we have 30 players at 106, but again lack of response for or against the interim change.

However, this doesn’t mean we won’t be expanding the game further, as it would be something we really want to be able to do when we have usable downtime between other projects, regardless of monetary potential or how many loyal players are still active to enjoy it. In the meantime, I do think it would be very helpful if all players can be more active in the game and post more shares on your profile (to attract more players), and those really wish to see a new expansion can post or vote for the top ideas in the suggestion thread, but keep in mind it may be a while before major new features can be planned.

Topic: Dream World / Server Maintenance February 2nd 2016 3AM PST (completed)

Hi Folks,

Our hosting service is performing a required maintenance on the physical machine where the S1 server is hosted on. We will take down the server briefly in about 23 hours from now. This also prevents players who have not logged into S2 from logging in but should now impact players who are already playing on S2. The downtime is expected to last between roughly 1-2 hours. Sorry for any inconvenience during this scheduled downtime may bring.

Update: The server maintenance is completed, but those who were playing prior to the downtime may experience a tiny minor rollback as our service provider shutdown the instance before we had a chance to backup the every last minute of progress. Please contact me via private message if you were online and majorly impacted.

Thanks again for everyone patience during the downtime and sorry for any inconveniences. Happy dreams!

The thread that RaptorKris provided link for summaries the situation fairly well. There are many great suggestions we would like to consider for further improving the game when we can (financially) justify of freeing the development resources to do so, ranging from item crafting to adding more features to towns.

For now, we can increase the level cap once we have 30 players on S1 reach the top level (106), to allow few more players to join the top for once. In the meantime, we will increase the item enhance hard cap from 1000 to 1200 so the capped players still have something to work on.

The point of “mystery” boxes is that there are some unknown elements and not all rewards are of same usefulness for everyone. While you may feel you “deserve” better rewards than 48 daily MBs that sometimes give you fairy dusts (that you can just throw away as needed), there is nothing we can do other than wishing you better luck on you next batch of free MBs. Alternatively, you can actually buy more MBs if you feel the free ones are insufficient.

The 24 extra Free hourly MB per day is basically a bonus to encourage players to login and play often. You get the extra bonus MBs but the game get some free marketing when your friends and family ask why you are logging into the game every hour from your phone/tablet/computer etc. Changing the bonus part to be Santas defeats the purpose of giving out 24 extra MBs daily.

While we understand everyone’s wish to get all the MBs without having to repetitively log in, we can only leave it as a trade off now as there is nothing wrong with foregoe the hourly MB as needed. We do need help from everyone to tell more people about Dream World as Kong have reduced the marketing commitment to the game. Hope you all can understand.

Thanks for the suggestions.

1) This something we might consider, but would need help from everyone to spread the words to past players if we spent time to create a crowdfunded project. We actually previously considered crowdfunding a mobile version of the game, but that will require much more effort/fund than creating a new expansion. Anyone else would be interested in crowdfunding?

2) We may add a super-tier package if we can get at least couple more players that would be committed to purchase it if made available.
