Topic: Serious Discussion / SOPA Bill: and now PIPA and ACTA

addendum:

Tests for ‘facilitating’ are already well established, no?

Ford is not held liable for facilitating a bank robbery because they sold a car used in the get-away.
A gun manufacturer is not held liable for facilitating a murder.

And so on.

As far as this is concerned, they are held responsible. Which is why it is ridiculous.

The only way i’ve seen them plan to handle anything is through DNS blocks, which is idiotic.

Right so, I think that the problem here, as has been shown, is the wording in this bill as well as the vague description as to where punishment is dished out.

People are allowed to post games freely, therefore if any company were to get angry about someone uploading say, Mario’s face in a game they could sue Kongregate. As far as getting a day in court, the bill allows them to press charges for one user’s actions.

Overly redundant or not, the point stands that this is still a threat to this website as well many others in the from of PIPA and ACTA now, and getting the word out is the best way to stop it.

I’m not sure if you guys are aware what’s already happening to file sharing websites, megaupload for example has been shut down; by the FBI nonetheless. The fight has gone well so far, but it’s far from over.

Actually, I was kind of thinking they were pushing SOPA to make PIPA look less serious, all so the american people would say, “Ehh compared to SOPA, PIPA isn’t too bad…let it pass”. Keep in mind all the attention is focused on SOPA right now, so protect IP could pass.

like i said though if they do their job and properly represent it, they would follow the same path

basically if one passes they both do, and vice versa, so if one gets rejected, the other should as well

SOPA effectively being dead at this point, the attention now turns to PIPA and ACTA, both very much alive.
