Art is Phun Contest 3 || Christmas Character Creation

For this contest, you must create your own character relevant to christmas, size of the image doesn’t matter, but only one entry per contestant is allowed; like last time, if you enter more than one entry, then only your latest will be counted. You will be judged on the following:

Originality 25 – Snowmen and Santas have been done 1000s of times, can you come up with something new which is still relevant to christmas?

Relevance 25 – How relevant to the theme is your character? Clue: Godzilla in a dessert is not relevant.

Quality 25 – If your design looks nice as well as different, that’s always a good bonus.

Awesomeness 25 – How loveable is your new character? A willing judge will be selected by me at random (DO NOT ASK)

Overall 100 – Adding up all of the previous factors, the winner is the contestant with the highest overall score.

PRIZES

Overall Winner – Their character will receive a place in my next game, whatever it may be, and how ever relevant the game is to Christmas. You will also receive an optional free avatar request and your image will be uploaded to my gallery (with full credit where its due).

Most Loveable – Will generally be the character design with the highest score for Awesomeness, where in a tie-break, the other factors will come in to it (along with my personal opinion). The winner of this will get a free avatar request and I will personally redraw their character and place it on my gallery (with full credit where its due).

Best Drawing – The cleanest most proffesional looking character design (regardless of other factors) will receive a free avatar request along with the optional choice of their image being uploaded to my gallery (with full credit where its due).

Christmas Spirit – The most christmassy design will receive a free avatar request and their image will be uploaded to my gallery (with full credit where its due).

Bonus Winner – Like last time, a random non-winner will be selected for the chance to win a free avatar request and the option of getting me to redraw their design.

Taking Part – Everyone that takes part, but fails to win any of the above, will get a free avatar request just for taking part!

I think they agreed on doing that together, personally, I have no problem with people having their own threads, there’s nothing wrong with all these threads, the only problem here is the amount of people who fail to respond intelligently to art, hence my criticism thread. Still, if people want to make groups or team up with others to do requests, that’s fine too, so long as nothing gets competetive.

My new topic seems to be getting some interest, and I think it may be relevant enough for a place somewhere in the Guidelines section :).

Also Chad, Negatives and Opposites are not so much different, negative is the technical term for opposite in fact, so really it is relevant to negatives, although it does depend on what colours you’re looking at, in reality, mixing all primary + secondary colours would get something strange (usually with paints), but on a computer (or if you’re learning science) mixing all primary + secondary colours will produce the “colour” white.

Following the last statement, opposites on a computer will differ from opposites with paints/colouring on papers/canvases.

If you’re going to post, I’d rather you only posted your thoughts on criticism, or your thoughts/opinions on what I’ve said, thank you.

Tuckerfast is the greatest n00b there ever was, he has set up a “Battle” between me and him!

Your post contradicts itself, the whole point of this topic is to avoid that kind of negative attitude, if you’re unhappy with what they did, tell them, you don’t need to bring it into this thread, or flame him.

Also having said that mooman, I saw the thread, I’m willing to talk with Tucker about this if you’re not happy with what has happened.

Increasingly, I’m seeing alot of flame and spam on this forum, caused by people who think they’re showing signs of intelligence by responding to art with comments such as the following:

I don’t like it, general lurkers don’t like to read it, but most importantly, the author of the art you’re hating doesn’t like to read it.

There is a way to comment on artwork properly without hurting anybody’s feelings, it’s called criticizing, I’m going to start simple with this:

Good: Anything you like about the image goes here (if you like nothing, it’s okay to leave it).

Bad: Anything you don’t like about the image goes here (again, if you think it’s perfect, it’s okay to leave this to).

How to Improve: List any improvements to the image here, whether you’re going to tell somebody if you like their work or not, it’s important that you tell them how to improve, they’re here to get an idea of who likes what about their images, but they can’t improve if nobody tells them how to.

If you’re going to tell somebody you like their work, fine, criticism isn’t entirely necessary (but it’s still nice to let them know how to improve), if you’re going to tell somebody you hate their work, please use this as not only will you be avoiding flame wars, but the author will learn on how to improve on their work from this, and so the Art forum has achieved its purpose.

If we’re going to reduce the number of threads, then why not put all threads in the Art forum into 1 big thread and call it “Post All Art Related Stuff Here” =P.

It’s not really going to work is it? I only have a problem with the graphics groups and the amount of spammy, useless posts. Other than those issues, the Art forum doesn’t need much cleaning up at all.

As for the pink skirt, The gopher’s 2 dreams were to become a pro boxer and a pro ballet dancer, and so it combined the two in its new job as City Abolisher.

Concept art for a boss in the game that will one day exist, “Winky the Wombat: The Game”.

The Mighty Mutant Gopher towers above most proudly at 23 feet in height, it terrorises the human city of Chessington as part of ‘Operation Kill the Humans’, it demolishes the many cities inhabited by humans, one by one, through the medium of dance and destruction!

Again, made within half an hour, getting used to the Smudge tool now, as you can see, I’m quite pleased with those boxing gloves ;P.

Well if it’s at all any help to you, I enjoyed teh animal thing with the cape at the bottom of your post, and it has actually given me a boss idea for a game I’ve been planning for some time ;O, you’ll love it D:.

Your drawings aren’t exactly crap, you’ve got a very nice style, you just need to add detail to them to improve them, or take more time over them to get a slightly smooth/more realistic outcome (granted, they’re cartoons, so they’re not meant to look realistic).

Good work, keep it up!
