Exclusive Content is pretty annoying
True, I didn’t think of the monthly contest winnings. So yes, when judging two games submitted here, the one that has more ‘content’ so to speak should be rated highly. And that’s what I was getting at before- if you want to subtract a star from your existing rating due to it being a demo or having less content, that’s fine. I just think an absolute 1 is a little unfair, unless you thought the game only deserved a 2 in the first place. But that’s usually not the case with games of this fashion anyway.
Additionally, the version of the game that gets uploaded and distributed is determined by what kind of deal was worked out with the sponsor, so in many cases letting the dev ‘know’ you want the full game wont affect much

Exclusive Content is pretty annoying
Well, I’m looking at it a bit different- No offense to kongregate, and I don’t mean to step on any toes here, but the revenue share system is more of a ‘bonus,’ not something to count on for actual income. The same goes for mochi-ads and similar components. In my experience, sponsorships and website ads bring my main income. My game could be completely removed from the revenue share system here and my original points would still stand. I honestly don’t think switching your vote from 3 or 4 to 1 will really impact the earnings of a game, unless we’re talking about the difference between being on the front page or not.

Daniel- downvoting solely for the reasons discussed in this topic is also a clear form of disrespect
“please” avoid it?

well I’m sorry, but I’m not sure what other word to use
ignorant: unaware because of a lack of relevant information or knowledge
I think it’s fair to say you don’t have experience with how flash games are developed and monetized, therefore your opinions are skewed

Sure you can still vote 1, but it doesn’t make you look any less ignorant in the process. I can understand taking 1 star away from what you feel the game already deserves but a flat 1? What’s the point? Are you ‘punishing’ me? Do you think I’m going to say ‘gosh these users are right, I’d better sell myself short to deliver the best possible experience just for them!’ ?
What I and other developers do with our games is based on real-world circumstances and situations, not clueless voters

Just to add to what arcane is saying- I am currently a self-employed flash game producer using games and my website to make my income. I know several others in this position, or on the way to being in this position. The opportunity is definitely there.
But unfortunately when you submit on kongregate and newgrounds, you hit a wall of ignorance from some users. Elitist users who think the developer to website relationship is one-way. Where you if you upload anything that isn’t a fully-featured non-demo, you’re being greedy. Ah yes, of course! When companies use tactics like this in real life and you have to pay money, it’s expected. But flash developers? We serve the people! How dare we suggest that you make a few extra clicks to add something to your experience. Yes it’s quite true that our flash games require people to play them, but that doesn’t give them administrative rights over our work.

ADMINS Read - Hedgehog Launch money fraud!
This is so ridiculous, I really wish some people would have an idea of what they’re talking about before making off the wall assumptions.
First off, let’s look at the traffic levels here. You have to understand that at almost any account-based website (where account creation isn’t mandatory), the number of people that actually create and use accounts are minimal. Believe it or not, there are plenty of people who don’t care about badges and points, they just want to play games. I mean, we’re talking 25-50% here, IF that. I can’t speak for Kong of course, I’m just basing this of experience with other flash based sites. Let’s say 30% of Kong’s traffic actually logs in and has some form of interest in points and badge collecting. Of that 30%, this is only going to affect the amount that are actually playing the game, as opposed to the 5,602 other games available at my time of writing. Yes it is more prominently featured than other games, but this will deflate as time goes by. Lastly, of that % of players who are going for badges AND are playing hedgehog launch, this will only affect players going for the hard badges. Personally, I just like to collect the cards. And if that isn’t enough for you, let’s combine together ALL the pageviews for ALL the sites that hedgehog launch is currently featured on, and we’ll see how insignificant this becomes.
Long story short: the idea of DELIBERATELY leaving out a reset button would have been done to affect: only the users who access kongregate and log in just to play that game, AND are interested in hard badges
On to revenue sharing. There are many ways to make money with flash, and from my experience, revenue sharing is one of the least effective. Now, this is no offense to kongregate of course, I’m talking about revenue sharing in general. The amount of money you can make from sponsorships, contests, and licenses far exceeds revenue share income (in general). Again, this is only from my experience. But I currently have revenue sharing set up on three different websites. And on Kongregate, I currently have 7 games in the revenue sharing program, active for differing periods up to over 1 year. A more effective and consistent way (even more so than sponsorships/licenses) is to host your own website with your games on it, and direct people back there from the games you distribute. I know this is effective because my website currently provides a majority of my yearly income- it’s my job.
Now if all of what I said isn’t enough to completely void the points brought up in this thread, I should mention that I know John and have spoken with him several times, and I know he’s well above trying to pull a weak and desperate tactic like this.

I am Organizing a flash project team
In the meantime, I highly suggest you learn some programming skills and work on a simple game.
Even if someone dropped all the programs you needed into your lap, you wouldn’t be able to produce a third-person shooting game. Gotta start small : )

B2B challenge - controlls are screwed up
Flash messes up sometimes when pressing certain keys together, but more than likely you moved your mouse off screen while shooting and probably ended up refocusing on a different window or something
