I am a writer looking to kickstart my career...
You have to be older than 14 to do any of the things these last two suggested. There are child labor laws in most countries after all.

Animators Needed for Samurai/Anime Themed Game!!
http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/a72d49afdad16c9d13750a58547802b0
Here is a small demo for my new Samurai/Anime themed game OtherWorld!
I need animators to help with :
Enemies
Backgrounds
Weapons
Menus
Life and other various bars
Special Moves and Effects
Could also use a musician to make a heavy metal themed background music for the battles.
Please sign up here if you would like to be a part of this project it still needs a lot of work so I can make it a reality. The combat system needs more animations for the main character so I can add the extra parts of the combat system.

Artist Needed for Anime inpsired Samurai Game!
I’m working on a samurai/castlevania SON game. I have a playable demo that I can send someone or if someone can give me a good spot to post it on the net I can post it. I need a artist/animator who can start whipping up some cool characters for the game so I can start moving forward.
I have been coding this game for a while and finally at the final stages where I could probably finish the whole thing in a week or two with the help of a good animator to help me with backgrounds and characters. No programming experience required. Just need you to be able to work in Flash and make some cool samurai themed backgrounds and characters.
So far each character has about 200 frames of animation but this would probably go up to around 300 – 400 frames depending on space.
I will split all income generated by the project 50/50! I’m not really doing this for the money more to just see my dream come to life.

Other World team NOW Recruiting!
The Other World’s (OW) team is now recruiting.
Currently we have a programmer (me), background artist, details artist, in game movie designer, and character designer.
I’m looking for a person that is good with designing enemy sprites (with a good amount of detail). Anime inspired artists prefered but not neccesary. We could also use another background artist. All applicants need to provide a sample of previous work. I might also be willing to hire on one more programmer (will be really important for the later installments of this game) but you would need to provide one sample game to even be considered and I would prefer someone with knowledge of AS 3.0 (this game is in AS 2.0 but will probably be switched over to 3.0 by the end of this project or by the next game).
About the game:
Other World is the place talked about in tv, movies, comics, and books. It is a place where everything is possible. A world where fantasy, magic, science and technology all come together. Where one lone swordsmen can decimate an entire army. Where giant robots destroy entire villages. Men, demons, devils, dragons, monsters, and even gods fight for supperiority.
In this first game (first of a long series of games I have planned out) OW: How the War Began! We will follow the story of Sosei the lone survivor of his village. He has the power to duplicate any technique just by looking at it. His journey will follow the start of the Great War which will be the setting for all foreseeable future installments. We have a basic combat engine (with placeholder graphics)for anyone who is interested in how this game is going to play out.
A basic description of the gameplay:
OW is a melee sword fighting game(your charcter uses a sword but not neccesarily all the enemies will). It uses a realist and intuitive damage system. A stab in the heart and your dead, you miss a block towards your head your decaptitated, side stepped when you should have back stepped – sliced in half. The controls are very intuitive as well but I don’t want to release all the games secrets :).
We are looking to recruit early. Eventual plans include our own website and a full fledged adventure RPG. We will be sharing any profits from this game and any future installments. Please leave your e-mail address here or send me a private message with it if your interested. Also provide a link to a sample of your work.
Thank You for any interest you show in the OW project.
P.S.
I’m not providing demos for just anyone to look at so if you don’t have a sample of your work than please don’t ask me for my demo.

Need Artist for sword fighting game
Don’t focus on the mega man thing because I’m thinking about dropping it. I was just originally doing it for a stage selection kind of idea but now I’m thinking of doing it more castlevania style (SOTN). As you unlock special abilities they will give you access to more parts of the lvl. We will see though. I’m just gonna work with the other two artists on designing stages and then I’ll decide how to put it all together later.

Need Artist for sword fighting game
My e-mail address is csafko@luc.edu and I completely agree with you about what needs to be changed. I’ve just been waiting for an animator to help me implement that style into the game. I don’t like the sense bar I think it distracts from the realism that I’m going for. I will keep the sense bar in for the easiest difficulty setting just because I know the gameplay is completely different from anything anyone has tried before and may take some time to get used to for some players.
As far as the story goes in the OW that I picture the world is seperated into two major continents and a war is ongoing between the continents. This game is about how that war came to start. You are the sole survivor of your village and are given the opportunity by the King to find and kill the demon that destroyed your village. There are then a series of twists and turns that end up starting the war between the two continents. I don’t want to reveal the whole story on the forums so I’ll send you an e-mail with the rest of the details.
As for the main character he survived a vicious attack on his village so he needs a grizzled look to him. The world has lots of different factions. Some factions focus on technology while others in inner peace. I picture the main character fighting everything from traditional samurais, ninjas, boars, robots, demons, dragons, and even giant gundams. The bigger battles against dragons and gundams will be multiple part fights which will start (dragons) with like the tail and then move to a foot and then onwards to the head and so forth. The giant gundams will be similar fights.
Some characters will also posses guyver like biosuits which will enhance their speed and strength.
Other factions will focus on spiritual abilities and perfection. For the second game in the series I want to focus on just a fighting game and allow players to choose their faction and character. This first game will just be to introduce you to some of the main characters and establish the future setting that the rest of the games will take place in.
I’m glad your in on this garbe because I picture the main character looking similar to the art sample you showed me and I like that squid bad guy as well. It also looks like you can design pretty amazing weapons. I would like to see the main character with darker hair though. Let me know what your ideas are for how this world should look.
I picture part feudal japan and other parts like down town tokyo and New York. Other areas should be a mix and others should be like 1950s London.

I don’t have anyone to do sounds and music yet so that would be OK with me if you handled it. I’m polishing up the demo today and I’ll send you the swf to your e-mail. Is the one you posted here your correct e-mail because I haven’t heard back from the e-mails I sent you??

Garb I’m really excited to get working with you. Your sample looks like exactly what I’m looking for. I would though still like at least one more artist to help both me and you make this game come to life. Unless Garbre you prefer to work alone? I was hoping to have one artist who focuses on backgrounds and weapons though.

Need Artist for sword fighting game
I’m developing a new flash game and already have a very small combat engine/demo you can view. It is a game that is based around realistic sword play/intuitive controls but with a mega man style set up. If anyone would be interested in helping me animate the game I would really appreciate it and of course would be willing to share some of the profits.
I’m not looking for an amazing artist just someone with enough free time to get this done within the next month or so.
The person is going to be able to provide animations for various sword swinging moves
special moves
backgrounds
enemies
Please post here if your interested and also please provide a link with any previous flash animation. If you would like to see the basic demo leave your e-mail address and i’ll send it to you or leave a link for a file hosting site because I do not know of any right now.

Help with special moves
What is the key buffer?
also does anyone know a good tutorial to explain addEventListener to a new AS 3.0 programmer? I have determined i want to use the var mytimer:Timer command combined with event listeners to try and run my special moves. I’m not 100% sure though how the add event listeners work.

Key.isDown Help
the only thing I can think then is to maybe use a setInterval before the boolean switches.
Jabor I think I need to just post the code for both functions in here because your not understanding.
For checkAttackKeys the boolean attack needs to ==true.
for checkBlockKeys the boolean attack needs to == false.
I’m not at my work computer right now so I can not post my full code yet but I hope you understand better. After either function is used it switched the boolean to allow the next function to go.
The problem (as I said) is that as soon as the boolean switched to allow it to process the action the previous pressed key is still in the key registry. So as soon as the boolean switches to true or false then the other function just processes it.
Example:
I got for an Up Block. I press Up. Attack goes from false to true. checkAttackKeys (which runs every frame) then immediatly does an Up attack. What I really need to know is how to clear the key registry.

Key.isDown Help
I have booleans … The problem is that once the boolean switched to the OK to use now mode (aka true) the previous key is still in the registry and immediately gets used for the other function.

Key.isDown Help
Ok here is my code
// Every frame all my keys are checked
mcPlayer.onEnterFrame = function(){
checkBlockKeys();
checkAttackKeys();
enemyAttack();
}
So everytime the program goes through the frame it checks my keys. Now the up down left and right keys do different things depending on if your blocking or attacking.
The problem is that the game cycles through the frames so quickly that it still registers my defensive key press as an attack key.
So example the enemy attacks.
I press down to block it.
Immediately after blocking it then goes into a Down attack.
Is there a way to clear the key registry?
Thanks in advance for any help to fix this.

Help with special moves
This is a rough code idea and let me know what you guys think.
function checkAttackKeys(){
timer ++
if (timer == 1000){
buttonSequence = ""
}// i could probably put a clear buttonSequence command or something instead
if (Key.isDown(Key.UP)){
buttonSequence +="Up"
}
...
...// put other buttons here just alter buttonSequence += "appropriate direction"
if (buttonSequence == "UpUp"){
// execute move and animation + any sounds
}
}
does anyone see where this could be improved? Also does anyone know how many times a frame cycles through a second?

so jabor what do you think use the checktime function and then maybe an if function that says when the previous checked time is +2 seconds before the time before it deletes the array?

Help with special moves
I was hoping someone could help me figure I way to program special button sequences into my flash game.
For example I want a move to be a simple up down. No button needed after that just up down. Another move might be hold s and then press up down. I figured out ways to make this work but not ones that seem to be order specific.
I was thinking about a bunch of if/else statements but that seemed a little too long and messy.
Anyone got any ideas? I’d really appreciate it.

Please help with debugging
You know what I ended up doing and decided that this is probably pretty good advice for everyone. I ended up rewriting the program bit by bit in small little sections. I know have the whole thing up and running again and actually even farther along than it was when I posted this.
My big problem is when I get really excited about a bunch of new ideas I’ll just write down all the code on a pad of paper (if i’m not by my computer) or even worse just write it all down in the program right away without trying to debug it periodically.
To anyone writing their first game I really strongly advice people to just write a little bit at a time till the whole thing finally gets completed.
