Topic: The Last Stand: Dead Zone / Server Disconnected | Progress Lost!

Hey Deadmano,

Those sorts of message occur when you guessed it, you’re disconnected from our servers. Basically it’s a failure for your PC to communicate with the servers on our end. So something is falling down there.

This isn’t particularly common and it’s not an error within the game code itself (that will generally show a Save Error), it’s purely connection related.

So the question is:

1. What sort of machine are you playing on?
2. How’re you connected to the internet?
3. Are you on a shared / public network?

Topic: The Last Stand: Dead Zone / Can't Connect

Hey everyone!

Sorry it's taken so long to get to addressing this issue but here's what's happening.

Our server providers made a fairly large change to our backend hardware. This change altered a whole bunch of DNS (Domain Name Server) records it seems and it's resulted in a number places around the world being affected.

Think of the DNS like a phonebook. What's happening is that your local DNS can't find the number of our Dead Zone servers and as a result it's not able to connect.

----------------
HOW TO FIX IT!
----------------

You can connect to Google's DNS which is more up to date than most local ISP DNS records.

Before you change your DNS settings, write down the ones you have!

Here's the instructions on how to change to Google's DNS
https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using

----------------
This problem will resolve itself over time, but if you're unable to connect this might be your only option.

Topic: The Last Stand: Dead Zone / Problem with new games.

Hey everyone,

Sorry about the delay in getting to this issue. We’ve been in San Francisco for the Flash Gaming Summit and Game Developers Conference for the last 10 days.

There was a bug with creating new accounts for Dead Zone, this has since been rectified.

Problem: The game performs poorly, graphics and responses are sluggish and laggy.

Solution: Dead Zone uses Adobe Flash Player and its Stage3D technology to render high quality 3D graphics. As a result this can sometimes require a lot more resources and power than the average Flash game. There are several things you can try to resolve this issue:

1) Make sure Hardware Acceleration is enabled. To do this: Right click on the game -> Click 'Settings...' -> Select the 'Display' tab -> Make sure 'Hardware Acceleration enabled' is checked. You may need to restart the game after changing this setting.

2) Update your video drivers. Everyone has different video chipsets, however the most common drivers can be found here: - Nvidia (all): http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us - Nvidia (Geforce): http://www.geforce.com/drivers - ATI: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx - Intel: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/

You can check your video chipset type by viewing the system information in your OS.

Please note that we do not supply support for installing drivers and take no responsibility for the outcomes of doing so. However, other friendly forum dwellers will usually be more than happy to offer suggestions if you're having trouble, or if we're around on the forum we may be able to give you a push in the right direction.

3) Make sure your video chipset is supported by Adobe Flash Player and Stage3D. You can view the list of supported chipsets here: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/stage3d-unsupported-chipsets-drivers-flash.html

Note: The supported chipsets change often with each rapid-release update of Flash Player. If you chipset is not supported right now, it may very well be in the near future, so keep your eyes and ears peeled!

If you cannot run the game with Hardware Acceleration, Dead Zone will still continue to function, however the 3D graphics will be rendered using your CPU (your computer's main processor). This is much less optimal than using a dedicated graphics chip, however it will still allow the game to run, albeit with a large performance hit.

Problem: The game fails to load assets, or completes the 'Loading Assets' phase and hangs immediately.

Solution: 1) Install the latest version of Adobe Flash Player installed for your favourite browser (you can download it here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/).

2) Clear your browser's cache (see here for how-to guides for each browser: http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser's-Cache)

3) Disable any download management software you may have running. Some download management software has been known to interfere with the downloading of game assets.

4) As a last resort, you may try disabling any anti-virus software. This is not recommended, although it can be used as a test to see if your system has software running that may be disabling the game, and allow to take action.

--

Problem: The game fails to load missions or hangs while entering areas.

Solution: Please see the possible solutions above, as these issues are often related.

--

Problem: The game fails to connect to Facebook, Armor Games or Kongregate.

Solution: If you are attempting to run Dead Zone from a public or internal network (such as a school, campus or office network), please be advised that some system administrators will block access to certain ports. This means that some browser-based multiplayer games will not be able to connect to their respective servers. There is generally not much that you can do about this, unless you can convincen your friendly system administrator to open up ports to allow access.

Your personal Firewall (either software or your computer or your modem/router) may also be blocking access to certain ports or applications. Check your settings and open access to ports above 1024 and test the game to see if it solves your problem.

If running the game on Facebook, sometimes the permissions granted to the app can become corrupted or invalid. This is a rare case, but removing the Dead Zone app from your Facebook account, then re-adding it (allowing you to accept the permissions again) has been known to resolve the issue.

Problem: The game sometimes crashes to a white screen with an exclamation mark (!).

Solution: This can happen when the entire Flash Player encounters an exception (an unhandled error in the internal code - an exceptional circumstance). This could be caused by a number of problem, most of which are generally out of our control. It could be caused by memory related issues (the player is attempting to use more memory than the system has available), another Flash Player instance crashing (in another browser or on another tab), or even an internal crash in your video card drivers or hardware.

Dead Zone can use a lot of resources, and we're continually optimising the game to perform better and use less memory. However, it is a large game with a lot of assets which take up a significant amount more memory than your standard Flash game. Try closing any other applications that may be using large amounts of memory, specifically other games and video applications (Flash/Unity/browser based or otherwise).

Problem: The game/browser/OS/computer crashed and I lost a super-awesome-kickass rare item! Can I get it back!?

Solution: That is most unfortunate! Unfortunately, we do not keep logs of item-drops-to-players, as this data would become extremely large and extremely expensive to store. We cannot give you back your amazing rare item. In the case of a large-scale or rare severe server failure or data loss, we may apply appropriate measures to compensate players if we deem this to be an appropriate course of action.

Problem: I know of a player who is cheating, or exploiting a bug in the game. What should I do?

Solution: Report them to us here on the forum, or email us directly at support[at]deadzonegame[dot]com. Please make sure you include their username and a detailed description of the issue. Screenshots and details of the behaviour will help us to fix any security holes or bugs in the game as quickly as possible.

Cheating, as well as exploiting bugs in the game for an advantage are a breach of the Dead Zone Terms of Service. Con Artist Games reserves the right to ban users indefinitely or suspend an account for a specific amount of time.

--

Problem: A player is being rude, racist or just down-right nasty in the chat.

Solution: That definitely sucks. Con Artist Games is fairly liberal regarding the content of chat, however racism and threats will not be tolerated, and we reserve the right to silence, kick or ban a user that we deem to be disturbing the friendly nature of community. We often monitor the chat (either actively or passively) and will kick or silence users if we deem the content of their messages to be unacceptable or a breach of the Terms of Service.

You can silence individual users from your chat channel manually using the /silence [username] command (excluding the brackets, of course!). You may also report users here on the forum (please supply a screenshot of the chat window with the offending remarks) so we can take appropriate action.

Problem: A player is griefing me and destroying all my stuff! Help!

Solution: We try to take steps to discourage griefing within Dead Zone, and are constantly updating the game and PvP elements to make them fair and fun for all players. Unfortunately, as with every multiplayer game, there will be trouble makers. Posting your problem on the forum will allow other friendly users to help you out with issues and fix your compound defences.

Just wanted to let you all know that the game will be released on Kongregate in a few weeks. I’m just using the exclusive time on Armor to clear up any bugs / gameplay issues before I release it everywhere else.

Also, I’ll do some badges and talk with the Kong staff about running a challenge for it.

Cheers, Con.
