Topic: Game Programming / Flash vs. Stencyl vs. Unity ( 2D games )

I wouldn’t really take Thepenguinking2’s word on that seeing as he has only ever developed in Stencyl.

In my experience, whatever you start off with you will stick with and it will be very difficult to switch. Learning Stencyl is mostly about the UI. There is little to no coding in developing for it. If you try to switch to flash, I think you’ll find having to manually code everything a huge pain (even though Flash CC is more or less inherently better performance wise). Starting with Flash CC then switching to Flash Dev will be a much easier jump, and might ease you in better than starting straight off with Flash Dev, but like I said people tend to stick with what they start with. (Thankfully nothing supports AS2 anymore, so you don’t have to worry about making that painful switch). Flash Dev performance wise is the better than Flash CC or Stencyl. It might be less convenient to design in due to the lack of a visual interface, but the compiler is a lot better as well as the rest of the code related features.

As for Unity, I haven’t used it so I can’t really speak about the development itself, but I will say it’s horrible for making browser games from a performance standpoint. It also isn’t getting an export to flash option which means users have to download a second plugin to use it online. That said it is otherwise one of the best programs for getting your games to multiple platforms and is supposed to be really easy to use compared to other 3D environments. I also think it uses C++ which if used correctly is faster than actionscript could ever hope to be, though as stated earlier, it may sacrifice that on it’s journey to different methods of gameplay.

Lastly, on the topic of multiplatform development, another alternative I haven’t seen anyone mention would be Haxe. It’s a free to use programming language which is basically supposed to be a stricter version of AS3. It, like Unity, can export to a lot of different platforms such as phones, tablets, ect. I haven’t used it myself, but I imagine it would be harder than Flash Dev but easier than Unity. I don’t know about exporting to a web based format, but the website says it exports to HTML 5, which should be able to run in your browser without any plugin installation at all.

To summarize, I don’t think any one program is best per se or else one would prosper and the others would die out. Stencyl is arguably the easiest to use, but at the cost of flexibility and speed, while on the other side of the spectrum Haxe and Unity are the hardest to use, but grant massive freedoms in your development. No one program is right for ever person, so just consider the pros and cons of each program so you can decide for yourself which one is best for you.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Gun issues updates

In Texas gun regulations are so stupidly lax that it’s not illegal (or at least not that I know of) for someone to sell/buy guns in a garage sell with no involvement of the government. I know because I’ve seen it happen more than once in just my neighborhood.

Though statistically you’re more likely to be born into money anyway as a white person.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Is body modification a form of self-harm?

So to lead, I’m kind of baffled by the ignorance of the OP to the point that I’m kind of at a loss of words. But this is SD, so I’ll go ahead and try to address a few of the many, many things wrong with this post in the following text.

Body modification is not necessarily a form of self harm, it’s a form of, well, modification. One big flaw in your argument against a sex change is your dragon metaphor is that, we do not have surgery that can effectively simulate being a dragon. A sex change on the other hand might not make you biologically make you a women, but it still for the most part allows you to experience what it’s like to be one.
I think another big problem with this rant is the way you are flaunting these ridiculous ideas for surgical transformations leading the the question, “Where do we draw the line?” Except through this same logic, one might say something like “Cloths are horrible constraints to our bodies! Bob wants to wear lots of cloths so he wears iron balls all over his body. WHERE DO WE DRAW THE LINE?”
The simple answer is that we draw the line at when it becomes impractical. The reason people don’t try to have surgery to look like dolphins or dragons is because (as stated in the South Park episode you tried to cite, it is nothing like actually being said thing) and _ because it’s freaking stupid_.

Be glad, it means for better or worse, you will probably have a better life than otherwise.

I find it intriguing that people manage to constantly get the acronym for Unidentified Flying Object confused with the noun ALIEN SPACECRAFT.

Welp, this site is gonna break. Probably tomorrow.

Yeah we get a lot of trolls/flamers, but I think it’s best to just flag those posts and move on.

I did. I’d say it’s on about the same quality as the show, and there are a few really good parts. Overall a good movie and worth the time of watching.

In regards to all the hate, I think it’s maybe a little bit ironic that bronies are bashing the movie without watching it because they find the premise childish.

So first off, just because I’m a brony doesn’t mean I’m ostracized by society. Honestly people tend to be pretty cool about it and overall I’ve gotten an overwhelmingly positive reaction from others about it. Only a small minority actually dislike bronies after they get to know them.
Secondly, how is this an inappropriate question? Should I just not ask it and take your word for it that staring at boobs is bad?
