Looking for a team of beta testers
Just to clarify, I appreciate any help testing at any level of commitment. I’m not just looking for full time testers. I’m pretty busy, so there might be large gaps when I don’t need any testing for awhile, so don’t feel like you need to commit much time to this if you are interested (although if you do wish to, that’s great too).

Indie Game Dev Bundle
Oh, sorry I didn’t realize the license limitations…
It sounded too good to be true, and I guess it is. Thanks for picking up on my mistake.

Indie Game Dev Bundle
Please read the disclaimer post (the second post) before buying
Hey guys,
I wasn’t sure where to post this, but I found a really good discounted bundle of tutorials, music, game starter kits, and 2d and 3d art on the Tuts+ Marketplace.
I know this isn’t a place to advertise and I’m not trying to spam or anything, but I checked out the bundle and its the first time I’ve found one of these that is actually good enough for me to buy it.
It’s called the Indie Game Dev Bundle, and it has $500-worth of stuff for $20, but it expires at the end of today.
If you’re thinking about getting it and want to be nice you can follow my referral url… http://3docean.net/item/indie-game-dev-bundle/918331?ref=Benolds
…but I know this isn’t really the place to be advertising my referral link, so you can also just go to http://3docean.net/bundles/indiegamedev
I hope this doesn’t seem like I’m just trying to sell it. I honestly think this is pretty awesome.

Looking for a team of beta testers
Hey everyone,
My name is Ben Reynolds, I’ve been programming in AS3 for 2.5 years now, working as a “one man army”-style game developer. I’m a senior in high school now, looking to study computer science or game design/programming in college. But enough about me… as I stated in the title I am looking for some beta testers for a few of my small games.
I need some fresh eyes that can give feedback on the some of the game prototypes I have built over the past couple years. I’d love to find 5-10 people who can give some feedback and/or contribute a few ideas to projects.
Your names will be included in the credits of any games you help with.
I was prompted to post for this because of the project I am working on right now. It is a small, turn-based RPG-ish game. I would appreciate any assistance I can get testing, balancing, and adding interesting elements to the game. A screenshot of the early game prototype can be seen here: http://www.kongregate.com/collabs/art/Benolds/game-preview-dragon-boss-battle
Thanks in advance to anyone who wants to work with me! Reply here, send me a PM, or email me at benolds10@yahoo.com if you are interested.
Cheers!
Ben

Ethics + Technology
I recently read an interesting article about Augmented Reality (A.R.) in a Scientific American magazine. Very intriguing, especially the conclusions the author makes at the end about our growing dependence on technology:
http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=how-to-see-the-invisible
I think that there are definite ethical implications here, hopefully it helps :)

game stuck in judgement not getting rated
I played your game and I was actually pretty impressed with it. The problem is your art. If it had professional quality artwork I’m sure this would get a good rating and a lot more views. Also, I would definitely upload a new icon (you don’t even need to remove the game). Icons are possibly the most important part of a new game, because they determine whether or not people think it is worth their time to play the game. Good luck!

Game Ideas
Just curious, is it legal to remake games with actionscript? Even if you don’t use the original art? I know I’ve played Sonic the Hedgehog, and Super Smash Bros made with flash, but it seems to me like that should be copyright infringement (correct me if I’m wrong). Anyways, I love all those classics and it would indeed be pretty awesome to play them as a flash game :)

Need Leveldesigner
I can’t do the level design, but just wanted to throw in some quick feedback after playing the game demo: Great potential! Simple mechanics = good puzzles. But (in my opinion) instead of dying when you hit the wall it should just block you like a regular wall. Good luck :)

Need game testers
If you are looking for a game sponsor I definitely recommend checking out Flash Game License and posting your game. Other developers can review your games and sponsors look for games there, especially ones with high ratings.

Programmer looking for small project
My name is Ben Reynolds, I’m 17, and I’ve been programming games in AS3 for 2 full years now.
I’ve tried a couple of collaborations over the years, but poor communications and over-ambitious projects almost always lead to failure.
So I am looking to join a SMALL project, something simple that can hopefully be completed in just a few days. That being said, I don’t want to sign on to anything junky. I’m just looking for a game to work on that is small but polished. I am a proficient coder, so there won’t be any limitations in that department.
Check my profile if you need to see my past work, although most of my recent work is yet to be uploaded.
As for revenue share, if this ends up making any money we will split it completely equally. I hope you aren’t dissuaded from working on a small project due to the fact that there will be little monetary gain (unless for some reason we strike gold), but let’s face it, hardly any collabs actually succeed at all. And I would rather add this success to my portfolio than spend my time on another failed gigantic collaboration project.
If you are an artist looking for a small game to add to your portfolio, or even if you just have a good idea, I’d love to hear from you and collaborate. Just reply here, send me a PM, or email me at: benolds10 [at] yahoo [dot] com if you are interested.
Looking forward to a successful collab!
Ben

National Cow Day today
Hey everyone, you may not have heard but April 30th (today) is National Cow Day!
A day to honor cows for all the hardships we put them through… and just for being awesome!
Try to…
- not eat beef today
- wear black and white
Give a moo for all they do. Honor the cow… Now!
Cheers, spread the word!
:D

Create an array of numbers from a string
I have strings of numbers taken from an XML and I want to create an array out of them.
For example: I have a string: “000111000”, and another is “021131121”, etc.
And I want it to look like: [0,0,0,1,1,1,0,0,0] or [0,2,1,1,3,1,1,2,1]
I tried using: intArray = xmlText.split(), where xmlText is a String I created from the corresponding xml line, but that didn’t work.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Benolds

Quick array question (AS3) [SOLVED}
Thanks, works like a charm!
I just replaced:
extendedArray = baseArray;
with:
for(var i:int=0; i<baseArray.length; i++){
extendedArray[i] = baseArray[i];
}

Quick array question (AS3) [SOLVED}
I’ve just got a quick question about arrays… I’ll illustrate it with this example:
var baseArray:Array = new Array(0,1,2,3,4,5);
var extendedArray:Array = new Array();
extendedArray = baseArray;
trace(extendedArray); //0,1,2,3,4,5
extendedArray[0] = 9;
trace(extendedArray); //9,1,2,3,4,5
trace( baseArray); //9,1,2,3,4,5
How do I change extendedArray but not baseArray?
