Will do guys. MrHasuu and imp2, I need links to your accounts.
I’ve had an idea to make the searching through and playing other people’s entries process a bit easier/more fun but due to how the 1GAM site works at the moment, I can’t finish it until August/September time.

Added you both and killed the main post at the same time! >_<
edit: it really doesn’t like me linking your 2nd/3rd games SquekaA. I’ll sort it later!

Games for the people?
IMO, unless you strictly make games for your own enjoyment (which is great), you have the question backwards.
Since the games on Kongregate (and a lot on my phone, etc) are free, my time becomes a currency. What are you giving me for that? If someone is playing your game and feels like their precious time could have been better spent elsewhere, they will feel that have the right to judge. The fact that they haven’t made a game doesn’t really matter – most professional game critics have limited, if any, development skill. If my car breaks, I moan about the manufacturer even though I couldn’t do any better. It’s just how we are.
Try not to let it beat you down but do take the feedback on board; being stubborn and convincing yourself that everyone else is wrong won’t fix things. Speaking purely as a gamer for a minute, I think a lot of the feedback that you are taking issue with is actually accurate. For example, the pop-ups in the code game are very annoying, especially as my mouse cursor was hidden when they popped up. I’m assuming the game had no HUD because you wanted me engrossed in the world – a good, tried-and-tested idea – but those pop-ups instantly and permanently killed that feeling to be honest. I won’t go into specifics with the other game (and I agree the feedback is overly harsh there) but there are issues that would’ve made me shut the game in under 20 seconds if I weren’t playing it for the sake of replying to this post.
Not much more to say other than: chin up!

Kongregate's exclusivity bonus
To be fair, I don’t think anyone would get the bonus if that was the case.
Nice game BTW, I did manage a few minutes when you first posted it :)

Epic coder seeking epic artist.
Hi there,
You’ll probably have more luck with artists in some of Kong’s other forums – Design or Collabs maybe – I guess most people reading this thread are just like you.
In the meantime, code your graphics! :) Check out the little comps that (used to?!) run on the forum here, here and here
Also, since you’re making games, I’ll just leave this here
Good luck

Updated what I could, removed a couple who are no longer registered on the site for whatever reason and added InfernalWater.
Would be great to have some games on there by the forum regulars. No pressure; if you’re busy, you’re busy! We’re above the 1GAM ratio of games to entrants, at least.

A Question?
Are you uploading stolen games in an attempt to get these badges FreshNG? Not a good idea. Also, there’s a rather suspicious looking ‘IGN’ account that was made 2 days ago, posts on your games and uses ‘too’ when it should be ‘to’ like you have in this post.
Making games is great and I strongly recommend you stick with (or actually get into) that – just don’t steal from (or pretend to be) others.

1 – MossyStump
2 – CuriousGaming
Very close for those points though, they’re all of a similar standard, which is cool. Joke games aside :p

Hey, sorry… spent very little time at my own computer over the last few weeks but I’ve trawled through everyone’s 1GAM account and updated the original post as best I could.
Best pull my finger out and submit something of my own! At least if it sucks I can show progress through the year ;)

At best, I’m going to have 4-5 hours to attempt something, which is a shame because I like my idea. Anywho, if anyone is struggling for an idea (hardly likely, I know) and wants it:
You control a kid who sleepwalks. You spend the daytime sleepwalk-proofing your house and the surrounding grounds to stop yourself being hurt/killed at night. Obstacles range from holes in the floor of your poorly built farmhouse, broken or dodgy stairs, rakes on the ground (Sideshow Bob!) and loose farm animals.
Will try something simpler in the time I do have…

I can’t comment on the gameplay but it looks like old PC games that got me into gaming in the first place, which is all good in my book.
@UG I’d like to do a porting month at some point in the year, so I certainly hope they count (I can’t see why they wouldn’t!). I haven’t read anything specific on it though.

Finished? SFX and everything?
I suppose it depends on your interpretation of ‘finished’. I remember reading that the main thing is that you don’t post placeholders, prototypes and so on. If you deem your game finished without SFX, I’d say just post it. What you have already looks promising :D

Well, the requirement is that your game is finished and playable, so my gut says no, you can’t do that. Then again, the whole point of 1GAM is that there are no rules as such, so if every iteration you submit is a complete game, you might be ok. My suggestion would be that if you desperately want to work on the same type of game all year, you should make sequels instead of updating the same one.
Added chjolo and oatlol to the list.
Big congrats to StormAlligator for being reviewed by Jay is Games

Pretty much – or just DM or tweet it at me if you prefer. I’ll add your links and game if you post your 1GAM details.
Bob, I have no idea O_o
Just to add, there’s a Mini Ludum Dare with the theme of ‘Hindsight’ running at the moment. Could be useful for anyone looking for some extra motivation.

Stencyl games certainly count. As for your other question, the ‘rules’ are a bit slack on that one. It’s not a competition, so it’s not like you’re cheating anyone else by doing it, plus plenty of games that are submitted will have been in progress before January (mine included). Maybe you should re-release it in a week or so with some updates. You won’t be kicked out for linking it as your January game or anything like that – but you might as well use the rest of the month to improve it!

Looking good guys. Do you want adding to the list Monstruba?
I’m redesigning and fully completing my GiTD game for 1GAM but I’m going to test the sponsorship water with it, so it certainly won’t be my January entry. I’ll have to make something small (and probably a bit rubbish, but never mind) for January

GiTD [#28] Voting - Winners Announced!
I think new year will have played a big part in a lot of them not being finished. It also makes it really difficult to pick 2 out, as there’s plenty I’d love to play full versions of, but put a gun to my head and I’d pick:
1st: AMD_Paulius_J – Lure or Die
2nd: adamkingdom – Slime or Die
Random other comments (no offense if I miss you out, but I’ve got about 2 minutes and I’m out the door)
Gama11 – just pipped to 3rd
RTLShadow – A badass R2D2 gunning things down to a Dragonforce remix – what’s not to like? :)
Moshdef – I’m never having my 5-a-day again
Sanchex – you did those graphics/animations in 10 days?! Would easily have been my winner if it was finished.
UG – really looks like the type of game I’d like (loved Motherload and MegaDrill) but I couldn’t really get going
Yes mine sucked – I’ll be nipping at your heels next time though :)

GiTD [#28] Entries and Discussion
I didn’t manage to finish the game, it’s in a prototype state similar to some from the other day. I’m pretty happy with what I achieved given how little time went into it, though. I’ll probably turn it into a 1GAM but it might not be January’s.
GiTD or Die
It has everything it needs to be a game except the winning/losing mechanics (you might want/need to disqualify me). 1 more day and I would’ve had it ;)
