Topic: Kongregate / Kongregate: Defying Itself

The problem is that the OP is using a term in the terms and conditions that is only there due to US law, and concluding that the site is aimed at this age group. If Kongregate (or GameStop) were not based in the US, there would not be any 13+ clause.

This. I’ll probably end up selling it.

I wonder if GameStop in the Republic of Ireland will accept it, or how much will charge in shipping.

Mk then, on the other hand say hi on Anti-Idle (:D) and how do I trade in my powerup points for kreds?

You can’t.

Maybe I misread that. Oh well.

Edit: wait. “Now you can earn GameStop® PowerUp Rewards™ Points on Kongregate! PowerUp Rewards Points can be redeemed for free Kreds, game gear, gift cards & more!”

That’s from the home page.

That’s GameStop’s reward scheme. You have to buy games from GameStop (presumably buying Kreds also counts) in order to get that type of points. Achievement points are still effectively worthless.

Topic: Kongregate / Gamestop buying Kongregate is good for us spammers and trolls

For the uninitated, GameStop is the major video games chain in the US. The UK equivilant would be the Game Group, which own GAME and GameStation. (Excluding the Republic of Ireland, where GameStop seems to be the premier chain)

Honestly? Slightly worried. When websites are aquired by big companies, they tend to start pissing people off (which probably explains why Newgrounds is doing so well).

Topic: Kongregate / Mobile Version of Kongregate

I disagree with hellijerry. A large chunk of the iPhone’s games are remakes/enhanced flash games. Having the free version available and comparable with the device I think would kill off that large chunk of the App Store.

Can I vote for the first new card being associated with a Badge Quest of some sort. Make ’em work for it.

Not opinions. It’s a fact that the shootorials are outdated and are probably more harm than good to the Flash development community. It’s a fact that the collabs do nothing more than photobucket, and does not better the site in any way. The new badges page does better kongregate, but in such a tiny way I doubt almost a solid two months of L4D and Dragon Age advertising campaigns were worth it.

“Site takeovers” (such as this new Dragon Age campaign) seems to be a bit of a trend. After all, the Hype Machine (not a site noted for selling out) had a couple of them. Yes, I recognise AS2 is outdated compared to AS3. But then again, you don’t need AS3 to make games. (Has Tom Fulp made a game out of AS3 yet?)

Topic: Kongregate / Loot Challenge missing mails

Potential winner means you’ve won, but if you don’t arrange shipping within five days of the e-mail arriving, you forfeit the prize. If Bethesda picks a site that doesn’t deliver to where you are, you get a cheque instead.

Topic: Kongregate / Curing people>?

Basically, you are either a zombie, a survivor, an Opt Outer or a “Nah, Nah, You Haven’t Tagged Me”er.

It’s possible to rid yourself of your Zombie or Survivor status (opting out and opting in again), but you gain no points and it sort of defeats the point of the promotion. Survivors can’t cure zombieism, zombies can’t cure survivorism and neither can cure Opt-Outism, but both can cure Stuck-Up-due-to-Not-Being-Tagged-Yetism.

Topic: Kongregate / Kongregate and Open Source/GPL

Yes: GPL v1 was made in 1989, Doom was released in 1993, but I think iD open-sourced the engine several years after Doom was released. And I don’t think Kong isn’t afraid of sharing of code cough Shootorial cough

Anyway, the whole “putting a copy of your GPL’d game on Kong” point is a bit academic, since Kong demands you have to be involved in the making of the game and putting a copy up of any game you didn’t make yourself would result in flagging of the game and (hopefully) a dose of the banhammer.

Frankly, I think Upgrade Complete is grossly over-rated. A mention on the first five pages of Top Rated, perhaps, but not Best Game Ever. Personally, I gave it a 3/5.

Topic: Kongregate / How'd you find Kongregate?

A few months ago, a person on a forum I go on linked to Platform Racing 2 on this site. So I had a look, disliked being a guest and forgot about it.

A few weeks ago, there was an article in the Sunday Times about these new “cloud gaming” companies: Gaikai, mainly, about how it’s going to become the “YouTube of gaming” (it won’t, Kongregate blatantly is the YouTube of gaming, although Gaikai may wind up being the Hulu or Spotify of gaming if it works) with a brief section on OnLive (assuming it works, that’s the Legal Napster of gaming right there. With both Gaikai and OnLive, I severely doubt they will work. But we’ll see.) Then in a little box at the bottom listed some alternatives: InstantAction and Kongregate. I had a look at InstantAction and found that my PC was too weak to play any of their stuff. So I looked at Kongregate, remembered how I disliked being a guest and signed up.

Interestingly, the same newspaper published a list of “10 browser based gaming websites”, and Kongregate was not mentioned. Hmm…

I dont think Super Stacker would work too well. The way it works, you drag your mouse to where you want the piece, and you can see where it’ll be when you place it. How would that work with a DS stylus? Sure, it could work for smaller pieces, but it’s be hard to know exactly where a large piece would be, and precision is everything.

Use an outline?

Topic: General Gaming / WHY IS UPGRADE COMPLETE FUN???????

Personally, it’s getting a bit overhyped. Yes, I beat the game, and I didn’t see anything special. It’s a game that pokes fun at a current trend, like Achievement Unlocked, except that it seems the internet public in general missed the joke/moral/whatever. I gave it a 3, although it’s probably more a 3.5, to be honest.

Topic: Kongregate / [Moderation] How to Become a Moderator 101

A (very) brief guide to how not to become a Mod (anywhere).

1) Troll.
2) Spam.
3) Consistantly bad grammer.
4) Consistantly bad spelling.
5) Asking to become a Mod (especially when the admins don’t want new mods).
6) Getting banned.
7) Having an multiple account.
8) Be universally annoying.

Anything else?
