Topic: Collaborations / Seeking artist for MusicQuest 2!

Hello,

We are currently seeking a skilled 2D interface artist to help us finish MusicQuest 2. The original MusicQuest did very well on Kongregate(http://www.kongregate.com/games/master_machines/music-quest) and Newgrounds(http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/561618).

Here is a link to a more in-depth description of the collab: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AuycFUAAIaPP9i4CNKafuuUFj9uMuwM_aLxIFDU0UVY/edit?hl=en_US\

Thanks,
Derek “Master Machines” Schindhelm

What will ad free games mean for developers?

Topic: Kongregate / Kongregate should stop rating fraud!

In my opinion, saying something like “If this game wins game of the month, then I will create additional content” is completely ok, and would be logical, but if you make it an individual thing where users must take screen shots of good ratings, then that should be against the rules.

Whats next? Giving players in-game content for downvoting the game’s competitors?

Topic: Kongregate / Request for MusicQuest Pro to be frontpaged

Thanks for support NetMonster and others! I’d like to point out that at the time MusicQuest should have been frontpaged, it had a higher rating than games that were released around the same time. Everything you said is true about the legal issues and my current frustration with Kongregate admins.

Well I can’t name it 2.0, because MusicQuest 2 is already being made.

But do you guys like the idea of making a MusicQuest 1.5 instead of just waiting for MusicQuest 2? I’m not sure when MQ2 will be out, but I’m guessing it won’t be for a while.

Thanks for the feedback BigBadWolf, it’s always appreciated:)

I can’t do much for visuals, as that will come with with MQ2, but I might make it look a little bit more sleek, and make it more black. I’ll also probably decrease the size of the menu buttons and whatnot.

Hm…A ban list. I’ve thought about the idea of removing an artist from the playlist, but a banlist would be pretty easy.

As far as the game is concerned I’m thinking I would maybe do something like what COD does and make it so that you can have more saved playlists as you level up. It wouldn’t effect the core music experience of course.

Thanks for the name suggestion Hunter, but it doesn’t really sound right to me. Maybe MusicQuest Pro?

Topic: Kongregate / MusicQuest gets gameplay; introducing Kong exclusive MusicQuest Pro!

---Edit--- So MusicQuest Pro is done, I think I did a fairly good job with it. It has a dynamic quest creation system that will help users discover music while also giving them xp. http://www.kongregate.com/games/master_machines/musicquest-pro Let me know what you guys think. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So I'm still working on MusicQuest 2, but the rest of my team is really slowing development down; I'm kinda waiting on them. It would also be nice to make a little extra something because I'm a poor college student. So I was thinking that maybe I could do something like MusicQuest 1.5 that would be very similar to the original but it would have some new features such as being able to save a playlist and HD video/audio. There would be very little visual improvements. I would also add more stats and stuff like that, and maybe turn it into an idle game (you level up the more you listen to music). What would you guys think about this? Would it be looked down upon as being "milking"? Also calling it MusicQuest 1.5 would be really lame, anyone have an idea for a better name? Topic: Game Programming / Getting into web-oriented flash development.

Most of my work with Music Quest involves REST web service calls. It’s not really too hard, but you will need to know how to read and parse xml.

I would recommend making a flash app that uses an API before starting to mess with server programming. There is a website called Programmable Web that has tons of tutorials and API listings.

Topic: Kongregate / SUGGESTION - Revenue Sharing

Honestly I don’t think he is making all that much of a profit. He probably spends at least an hour per game and makes a couple of bucks on each one. You rarely make a decent amount of ad revenue without being front paged.

If anything a “blam” kind of system would be better to implement. Or better yet, have developer ratings as suggested above, and grant additional ad revenue on that. That way kongregate’s more loyal/devoted developers will be rewarded a little more.

Will we be able to see reviewer comments and/or placement results if our game made it into round two but was not in the top 3?

Topic: Technical Support / Replying to comments

If I click on “See all comments” on one of my games, it won’t let me reply to comments. So I can only reply to latest 5 comments (and the top 5 best comments).

So I’m guessing it’s safe to assume that if we haven’t yet been contacted by Kong, we didn’t get top 3?

Edit*
@devwil, I thought the rules said the 29th?

Oops, I suppose your right, it would mute everything. Maybe there is a way to access the sound transform of the flv?

I think this should help. I think you can do media.soundMixer.transform.volume = 0 or something like that.

Topic: Kongregate Labs / Programs for game making?

I use Sharendipity for Music Quest and the other games I’ve made. It’s actually much easier to use than AS3 because of it’s nice interface and it has a drag and drop approach to programming. It can’t do quite as much stuff as AS3 can, but I’ve managed to make some pretty cool stuff (ie Music Quest).

Topic: Kongregate Labs / External server question.

Can games allow users to login to their server (with a username and password)? I think I remember seeing a while ago that Kongregate doesn’t allow this, but I can’t seem to find the text saying that is isn’t allowed.

Topic: Kongregate / Hot New Games Front Page

Hey I remember this happened with Music Match as well, I was wondering why Music Quest has not been front paged? It’s in the hot new games category and was uploaded well before the games that are currently on the front page, but it has not been frontpaged.

Thanks,

Topic: Kongregate / Responding to bug reports

As a developer, I have had some bug reports where I would like to respond to the user who reported the bug. Many of the bugs ask questions, so I would like to answer the questions that the player had, in addition to thanking them for spending the time to actually fill out the bug report. In addition to this, I also feel that many players don’t realize that developers cannot respond to the bug reports.

Is there any way to do this? Or is kongregate thinking about implementing this?
