Can you guys evaluate my game sprites?
They are alright however I have a few qualms with them.
1. The eyes are copied and pasted, I think it would be a nice touch if you did varying sizes and varying details and simplicity, along with rotation so it seems more randomized.
2. Save the files as .png, it supports higher quality image types and transparency.
3. On this sprite:

I would recommend giving it more depth of field, the back leg looks out of place and disproportionate, unless that’s not a leg. Is it some sort of sucker? If it is I’d try shading it differently.
4. I understand sprites are supposed to be simplistic but I feel that they could use more of a color range and depth of field.
But I mean, overall they are 2D graphics, they are sprites, you can’t be too picky. Those were just the little things I picked out, I could lie to you and say they are perfect, but that’d make me a liar, because no piece of art is 100% flawless or perfect. Good job on them, keep up the work I’d like to see more.

That’s raw talent for ya. You really should go to school for this and just get a degree so you can make more money doing this. The art is really that good, and you will also learn way more techniques if you pick the right school.

I think it’s safe to say that he has passed on, it’s the only option at this point. R.I.P aC, Kongregate will miss thee.

Fantastic. I noticed that you take a lot of inspiration from a variety of media (Not to imply you copy or steal work), the armor is quite similar to concept art you’d see for World of WarCraft, some of the sets of armor are more futuristic or comparable to that of Halo, a couple pieces in there with bits of Alien vs. Predator type inspiration as well as transformers. I really enjoy this work, it really is great, keep it coming.
edit
Forgot to mention your proportions are flawless, and work with organics in general is quite impressive.

It’s not a matter of attitude. It’s a matter of not fueling a flame war that has become completely redundant and irrelevant to my intentional purpose for this thread. Which is to advertise a free service. If you don’t like my services, don’t post here :)
For one I never asked for your critique on a service you never recieved. Until I actually do something for you, if you don’t like it, then you have room to talk. If I wanted feedback on my attitude or whatever else you think of me, my skills or my thread I personally would have asked for it. After this point I will be flagging posts that aren’t requests for games or team opportunities. Thanks.

Listen. I just don’t get what your problem is. It’s not a matter of approval, but that seems what you’re getting at, I don’t see the purpose of your continued comments, they just seem for the purpose to keep the flame going. You say the community is unforgiving, you say I’m a jerk, essentially you don’t like me, which means you don’t approve of me. So, what I am saying is I am going to set your hatred aside, and forget about you, because I won’t let 6 years of work succumb to 1 hater out of hundreds others. And approval as well is important, especially in graphic design. If everyone hates your work then there is no more work, so that is why approval is so important. But, that being said, not everyone in the world will approve your work, or like it, or like you, nor do I expect everyone to. So, as I stated, I will be moving on regardless of whether you continue to post here with your inflammatory posts, or not. Because while I feel that you dislike me, and maybe a few others do at this point too, there’s still work to be found; that is, if others are willing to work with me.

“I don’t know how you will “move forward”.”
Without your approval of course. I never needed it in the first place, still don’t need it now.

“Again, I never commented on the quality of your art. So please don’t be so sensitive or aggressive to a non-forgiving community.”
While you remain non-forgiving I’d like to refuse to believe the rest of the community would be. Please, feel free to step off of your high-horse at any time, I will be moving forward while setting your disapproval aside.

Although it is true that the portfolio would gain from example of game assets, making game graphics is not all sprites and animations, far from it. For the mid-size game I’m working on right now I’ll end up needing:
- Yes, indeed, 2 sprite sheets (40×40 tiles) of about 200 tiles total, reducible to about 80 by rotations and symmetries, and a few more sprites here and there for various effects.
- and also 4 characters portraits in various stages of animation. But mostly:
- 6-10 backgrounds (800×600) for the various screens (title, upgrades, credits, options, ending, etc…)
- One metric fuckton (technical term) of buttons, with 3 images per button (idle, hovered over, depressed). Navigation buttons, upgrade buttons, sound buttons, button buttons, you name it. (OK, I made the last one up, but there’s really a lot of buttons!)
- several sets of numbers (0 to 9), plus a variety of icons and symbols, including no less than 5 different kinds of stars.
So my point is that I disagree with the naysayers. Your portfolio shows your abilities, and game-specific samples can wait. If I was at the stage of looking for an artist, I’d be definitely PMing you the link to my prototype.
Sorry to double post here. But Ace, can I play this game so I can get an idea of what type of art you’d be looking for in the game? Because I’d really like to build it around the general theme of your game, it would definitely help me out.
Also an update on the interface, still tons of work to be done. Friendly constructive feedback would be appreciated.

“say to some person to eff off”
When did I ever say “eff off” to anyone?
“just because he has nothing uploaded in his profile.”
This isn’t directed at you in particular: But if you’re going to critique me, attempt to knock me down a notch, then you better have some proof that you are in fact better than me before you even broach me. If you have no credibility, then don’t insult mine.
“I think you need to stop being so angry as I have not done anything to rip your credibility to shreds”
My point is. I defend myself in my own thread, and you’re getting angry with me because I don’t want someone who is offending me to be around me. Also I think the one thing you aren’t realizing here is I’m not angry, I’m definitely frustrated but not angry. If I were angry I’d be ignoring you right now.
All things set aside I think you have some valid points. Sure I have no collabs under my belt, that’s fine, and sure I’d love to get in one where I can build a reputation. But also when I come into a new forum I am met with nothing but ‘bluntness’, harsh attitudes and pardon my terminology but ‘debbie downers’. I can’t handle negative people, I don’t like it, I brush those kinds of people off. I am a happy person, and when someone comes into my bubble/comfort zone, and they start poking at me, you can expect that I will defend myself. I’m not looking for an apology or anything like that. I’m simply just looking for someone to offer a free service to, a service I might say that I am fairly decent at.
I get the logic behind what you’re saying, I just don’t agree with it is all. As I stated above I don’t just bow down. I will do what you need to do as a cohort, not as an underdog. As I stated I understand I’m new here, and haven’t ‘earned my place’. But give a guy a chance before you start being so ‘blunt’. I mean the first thing I’m met with when I come here is this:
“I’m going to be blunt now, nobody cares how much progress you’ve made, or how you spend your time when you’re not making art.”
While I appreciate the input, that’s awesome. I’ll totally work on it. But I work in customer service, and there are ways to make something that could potentially sound offensive or bad, and twist it around and make it seem good, I do it on a daily basis. That being said I have been pretty rude here as I read back and I do apologize. But again, when people are rude to me I put up my barriers, because I just don’t like dealing with it.
Not to mention any post I make in this thread is met with some kind of a retort that is just frankly snappy. Like look at this one:
“art you posted is decent but dose not realy apeal for a game art at all”
For one, how can you say that? I get it that the art I posted is unrelated to games, and sure it couldn’t be used. But at the same time I posted it to give you some idea of my skillset. As I stated above I am new to the collabs forum, so I wouldn’t have much ‘collab’ work to post, that’s why I am trying to get one.
Lets take a look at Epsellis and their post:
Nice stuff, especially for someone who isn’t in college yet. i find it impressive. You also know how important a portfolio is.
you appear confident and motivated, especially with those strong colors, but as a fellow artist I would like to recommend you practice more drawing from observation.
Good luck with your Collab, May i suggest you start by look for something smaller to make, just to get to know people then do something bigger once you find the right team mates?
They took something that could have been potentially pretty brash and made it down to earth and really nice. That’s something I wouldn’t have a hard time dealing with. I don’t know if you have ever heard this saying before but: “You catch more flies with sugar.” Which is completely true, I do it on a daily basis. Again though I do apologize. But at the same time it’s hard to maintain an ‘aura’ of positivity when there’s so much negativity around you. So yeah, I kinda feel broken down here. Maybe you can see why?
