Dissipation Field card upgrade
First of all, let me say that this is a great game, and I keep coming back. I only have a couple minor complaints I wanted to share about my first card upgrade.
I was excited about upgrading a card from my deck (ether/chaos) for the first time, and I picked Dissipation Shield, one of my favorites. However, unlike the wording on the original card, the wording on Dissipation Field is vague. The original card’s description says:
“Shield: use 1 [chaos quantum] to absorb 3 damages [sic] from your physical damage sources.”
This means that each incoming hit (other than poison, which isn’t really a hit) gets integer-divided by 3, added to 1, and then applied to your chaos pool rather than your hitpoints. When upgrading, I read the description of Dissipation Field, the new version —
“Shield: use your quanta to absorb damage from physical damage sources.”
— to mean that each hit is blocked and subtracts one quantum, because that would be an improvement. The precedent I had in mind was the functioning of the Bone Wall shield. But I was worried by the vagueness.
It turns out that the new version subtracts a random quantum for every point of damage, instead of every 3 points. It actually uses up to 3 times more quanta. This is an improvement? It sucked up so many quanta that I had trouble with scarcity late in the game, something almost unheard of with the original card.
I recommend that the new version simply use one chaos quantum to absorb 4 damage instead of 3. Either that, or change the Dissipation Field description to “Shield: use one random quantum to absorb each point of physical damage.”
