Topic: Game Programming / GiTD [#33] Exploration! (225 Kred prize)

I don’t know what the specific rules are of GiTD MrHasuu, but because you can use preexisting assets then I think Charmander has the answer you’re looking for. I think it should be OK, but I’m sure Mossy or UG could clarify.

Great theme, I think there will be some cool entries.

I’m bored on a Friday night because I’m a big loser, so I’m just getting started.

Congratulations Imp2 and all of the other participants! I’m not surprised to see that it was such a close call between some of the games as it was definitely hard for me to choose between some of them. I think this was a great turn out and I hope #33 is as good.

1. Russpuppy
2. nutter666

Some were very impressive but seemed like they had little or nothing to do with collection, and some seemed like they weren’t even made for this GiTD. Russpuppy’s was great and fit the theme perfectly, and that 2.5D was really cool. I hope this is expanded into a bigger game.

It was difficult choosing a 2nd place but ultimately I had to go with something that fit the theme and was a complete game. Badegg, Kewry and I_love_you_lots (Collectron just needed to be longer) all had great games and I considered them all for my vote, and others were amazing but either didn’t fit the theme and/or seemed like they had way more than 10 days put into them.

Topic: Kongregate / New Kongregate Version: Bug fixes and backend changes

I don’t know if this is related, but I noticed that on some games it now says the amount of ratings. This was something I was sad to see go when the game pages were updated, so I really appreciate you bringing it back.

Cool choice of game. I also recommend his game 1, 2, 3 not for the contest but as a quick and awesome game to play.

Topic: Kongregate / Looking for testers

I haven’t found any bugs yet in the 3 Of A Kind or the Picture Puzzle games. So far it’s a fun game and I like the music, sound and especially the voiceover (although some sounds are way too loud). Is that you?

I recommend others who see this thread to actually check the game out. Also Rickety, I think this, the General Gaming or the Programming forums would all be fair game when looking for people to test out your game. I gave the game a 4/5 because it’s original, fun, I like the minigames I’ve played so far, and it looks like there’s alot to choose from. Good luck with this game! I think it deserves a high rating.

So far the only thing I would change is the volume of some of the sounds.

Edit: Oh, and maybe a fancier game icon.

Edit 2: After playing more, I agree with SimonDK below that the game is too easy and there should definitely always be a mute option. I also have to say that the textures really don’t match in some of the games, as somebody pointed out in the comments. In some games it’s not too noticeable, in others some of the stuff really clashes and some of the images are quite blurry.

One last thing is that many of the games should end when you complete the objective rather than waiting for the timer to run out.

Topic: Kongregate APIs / User_Info in AS2

Sorry for the stupid question, but I can’t seem to get it working on my own: how do I retrieve user info in AS2? Could I see an example of some code you would use to retrieve user info from Kongregate? While the information at http://developers.kongregate.com/docs/rest/user-info seems helpful, I don’t know how to integrate it into my actual code.

Thank you in advance for any help! I’m very interested in being able to detect a player’s level on Kongregate.

Topic: Kongregate / Whats are levels for?

Thank you very much for the information IceWeasel, and thanks to everybody else for the idea too! If it really is that easy to detect a player’s information, I’d love to add bonuses to all of my future games. I’m going to test this right now in Just Trolling.

Inventory and being able to carry so much. Whether it’s guns, equipment or the skulls of your enemies, you can always carry way too much in video games with very little exception. Even games that attempt to limit it can still be pretty ridiculous, but I love a big inventory. I love a game with a little junk in its trunk!

If developers can access a player’s level in-game, this would actually be an amazing idea. I’d love to give players bonuses for having a higher level. Maybe I’ll ask Senekis for some of his Badge Master wisdom.

I think this is actually a great idea, and a little thing could pop up when you hover over games just like the ones on users. This could give you the full description, tags, rating, plays, and even a few thumbnails of screenshots as this feature is being added.

Hero’s Arms and Chibi Knight are great if you’re looking for something other than turn-based fighting. They are both great games and don’t take too long to complete.

The other games suggested above are also great, such as Mardek Series, Starwish and Epic Battle Fantasy Series. Also Sonny, Monsters Den Series, Warlords Series and Legend of the Void also come to mind, but you can find almost all of these games in that list of highly-rated RPGs that Danishdragon provided.

Good luck! Being my favorite genre, I can tell you that Kongregate has many great RPGs to play and this is only a small sample of some of the exceptional ones.

Topic: Kongregate / Kongregate launches $10 million mobile publishing fund for indies

I’m using Chrome, and it just opens up a new blank tab called “untitled”. (when I click the link above, the page is also blank).

This is really exciting news! I was discouraged when the mobile section began to shut down shortly after I started uploading there, but this is great! I bet this will get our mobile community really booming.

Topic: Off-topic / Why do all atheists pretend to be smart?

What does the bible say concerning the age of the planet? The timeline seems to start roughly 6,000 years ago, but if I’m wrong about this then please clear it up for me.

@LukeMann Your sarcastic bullshittery just reveals that you’re incapable of engaging with the real argument, which is that knowledge is more credible than belief. Nobody is claiming to be smarter than anyone else, but hopefully you can see how it’s ignorant to make claims based on knowledge that you don’t have. I’m not saying it’s ignorant to have beliefs either, I’m saying it’s completely different than knowledge so cool down your plumbs before you hurt yourself. Beliefs shouldn’t offend non-believers and whatever yours are certainly don’t offend me, but some people can often get so defensive that they turn into intolerable douchebags.

Also @Hallucent, I apologize if I made it sound like I was saying all Christians take such things literally. I know many Christians who would laugh at something like that, and I know some Christians who do not take the bible literally at all but rather as a moral guide. I think it’s important not to generalize when speaking about religions because so many people can have vastly different beliefs, so again I apologize if I generalized this way. I don’t think that ALL Christians believe the timeline of the bible is accurate, because there are many Christians who know for a fact that it is not, but as far as I know the bible claims that creation took place about 6,000-7,000 years ago. I wasn’t being sarcastic earlier when I said please correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s what I know from reading the old and new testament and some other sources on the subject.

Edit @Controversial Those are the two options if you’re talking about atheism and theism, except theists can also believe in multiple gods. Either you’re just failtrolling or you failed miserably at reading, which one is it?

I like how the Christians of the thread doesn’t seem to put even a drop of effort in defending their own religion and are just bashing on the atheists for no reason.

I’m assuming they are both trolls, because I’m an optimist and I like to believe that nobody is that stupid. Then again, there are many misinformed children on this site and some religions seem to be more about hate than love. Who knows… Let’s just assume they are both 12 year old trolls, because that is best for our collective sanity.
