Topic: Kongregate / The Pinnacle of Gaming Achievement! (Semifinals- Falling Forever)

Ouch, I missed the end of the last round because I misread the date on the spreadsheet. I really hate middle endian date formats. I doubt I’d have made it through, but it would have been nice to post a score. Good luck to those left.

I can hardly believe it, but I worked out how to get the hard badge in this game! Now just the impossible left… It’s more my style of badge anyway, this required a lot of frantic brick placing at the end.

This should get me into the next round.

Here’s my last score for the round; should net me a good amount of points.

Slight improvement moves me up some spaces. Nyan is in my head forever now.

Yet another distance-endurance game… that makes three out of four this tournament? Would be nice to mix things up a little. Still, at least this one is fun, and not massively luck based.

Much better, thanks. I’ll be playing with this from now on.

I probably won’t be able to improve this, but it is good enough for now.

Not sure I like this game. It seems to be more about endurance and luck than actual skill, and the idea of hiding certain rather potent techniques like the brickpocalypse in post-game hints is retarded. I might just stick with this and wait for the next round; the last round should give me some leeway here.

Final score for this round:

Should get me a fair few points.

Second attempt:

The level of endurance required to get 6-figure scores is ridiculous, and so not worth it.

You cannot mix cowboys and aliens.
Their Genre is too different. Cowboys belong in a westerner styled movie, and aliens belong in a space age, high tech movie… They don’t mix.
That’s the equivalent of putting mash on toast… They’re just not meant to be together.

Actually, this particular mash-up has (almost) been done before in a film called Outlander, only that time it was Vikings and Aliens. In fact the plots for the two are eerily similar, right down to the lone hero with a mysterious past… But I enjoyed Outlander despite its reviews, so I’ll go see Cowboys and Aliens too. I don’t trust critics to review science fiction films anyway. The entire genre essentially gets slated, just because most critics are too arrogant to admit to liking a sci-fi film. It’s the same reason that sci-fi films never win best picture at the Academy Awards.

I’d appreciate a code if someone has a few to give away. I’m a little annoyed about the inability to get the card, but having the ticket on my profile would slightly make up for this failure of a challenge.

Looks like I’ll be defaulting out of this tournament. My family have kept me busy since I got back, and this game is not the kind you can get a good score in without hours of practising. I’m not even supposed to be posting this now. So yeah, I’m out. And I’m usually really good at platformers.

I tend to wait in the furthest bottom corner until they almost have reached me, then wall climb like crazy. If I get it right they detonate harmlessly just below the ceiling and I drop down when the way is clear. Can backfire if there are any other weapons flying around though.

Solving the problem by breaking the tie, again.

This will be the last score I post this round, as I am away for three days starting tomorrow. Hopefully it will get me through and I will have enough time to compete in the next round. Just please don’t end the round Saturday evening… I’d get back in time to watch myself be eliminated.

Tie breaker maker.

Also, we have to pre-empt when we’re about to die to get the tie-breaking statistic? Seriously bad idea… and incredibly unfair on anyone who gets their score tied after posting it. You need a better tie-breaker.

Topic: Kongregate / Sun God Survival badge

You can last indefinitely once five or six floors have been built. Just equip (and upgrade as much as possible) the following skills:

Lightning (or Concrete Fist if you prefer – a “vertical sweeper”)
Swarm (or Spirit Blade – a “horizontal sweeper”)
Polymorph (quickly removes champions, brutes, etc.)
Soul Jar (essential for keeping your mana up)
Earthquake
Reaper

Stick the Reaper on top of the tower and keep him there, he will take care of any Sun Kings that make it that far. If he dies, clear the top floor using Swarm and Polymorph, then replace him. Cast Earthquake every time it charges, unless you are very low on mana. Use Soul Jar on any groups of three or more to build up your mana reserve. Later on you can get a lot of mana this way as the enemies stack vertically. Use Polymorph on champions to increase your Reaper’s lifespan. Use any remaining mana to cast your two sweepers. The horizontal sweeper works best when the tower isn’t very tall, later on you will need to switch to the vertical sweeper. With this method you can prevent the last floor from ever being built (Earthquake will damage it more than it is built) and get whatever time you want. You could probably replace Polymorph with Curse or Confuse if you want to try something a bit different.
