Topic: Game Design / Constructive crit please

Map generation can get you stuck sometimes by having a block on the position you’ll spawn, crafting system is kinda confusing I try to make a sharp stone but always get the message “you already have that weapon equipped”, the inventory desperately needs a tooltip and I’m unsure about this one but it felt like opening the character screen caused frames to drop. I do like the crafting system as is though where you go step by step to craft the item, keep up the good work!

They are both games currently in Starcraft 2 Arcade so there isn’t a “nice” way to show them however Element TD started as a flash game and it has been in many other games. This game has 2 basic tower a single target “arrow” and a splash “cannon”, at 5th wave you are given a choice (unless it’s on random mode) where you can choose between one of the elements, a boss based on it comes out after you kill it you are attuned to that element. Each element can be attuned 3 times each time giving you access to stronger towers then it’s just about combos, a light tower when upgraded using the nature element gives you every X kills you gain 1 life, you can afterwards upgrade this life tower with an earth element to make it a stun tower. Mineralz is a survival TD, you control a unit, which has to mine from 4 different minerals. Each represents an attribute, blue is walls, purple is damage, red is healing/energy and lastly green is for upgrades. So what you need to do, is mine enough to build a Wall, grabbing a couple of cannons an healers, giving them an energy generator. Survive and upgrade as long as you can, it’s a damn long and hard game. Got no links for it but there’s probably old youtube tutorials around :p

Your code, with the durability and Wood element mae me think it was a mix of those 2 :D

Okey, end of day 1.
Got a few things done wrong, one of them is buggy and makes the use of 3D useless but hopefully I’ll deal with it before the deadline, the other is outright dumbness of mine. I also feel like I got a few things right, I think the way I built the tower system is good that it can be randomized into pure awesomeness, and from time to time, make players rage (still wondering if that’s good or bad, but hey that’s how random things are!)

Zoib the music in your game is just perfectly tuned to the game increasing pace making it feel awesome and it’s 5 minutes style makes it great for a series of 5 mins games. Something I’ve noticed in the upgrades you can skip tiers on them, was that on purpose?

Thanks for the reviews, I started thursday night and had a bunch of big breaks, but I love prototyping and I think I did great for the time I had. I don’t think it’s a matter of being necessary or not to have a 3D component, I believe it’s a matter of being different, of finding a way to twist a 2D game style so to not have it be simply a “clone”. I could have one many things better, one of them should have been testing the upgrades cost :P

Aesica, that sounds like an awesome storyline :P

Cola at the time wasn’t trademarked because some countries (like Portugal) use that word on a near daily basis, trademarking words, even if in specific contexts should first be studied in that context, “candy” and “saga” are both commonly used words in naming games therefore they should both have been considered non-trademarkable now, if they were to trademark exactly “Candy Crush Saga” that’d be fine, because it is their game.

The way it is right now just makes them be trademark trolls who will end up being sued for abuse and die before zynga even thinks about copying them

Candy was trademarked yesterday by the same guys, not all countries have approved of it yet, but they are already filling lawsuits against games with Candy on their name, such BS
