Topic: Tyrant / [Dev] Off the cuff - Conquest

I made a thread about a Conquest suggestion that I came up with a while back (uses macromonarch’s idea). I’ll just leave the link here: http://www.kongregate.com/forums/65-tyrant/topics/357844-a-suggestion-for-a-conquest-event?page=1#posts-7402852

Thanks for the suggestion, though that wouldn’t really be a CQ event now would it? It would just be a farm-shards-through-CQ event. Also, it would mess up the current rewards setup that the devs have for giving out shards (Daily Rewards, Quests).

If you want a fun CQ event there are 3 easy steps:
1) Release 3 new, strong, token only cards.
2) Triple the token gain from CQ during the event
3) Introduce a new effect and make a few “goldmine” tiles with those effects, (all assault cards gain Phase?).

I like the idea of eliminating lower CR as time passes, but would probably prefer a row from round the edge of the map to be removed every so often.
Also, your many posts need a tl;dr.

TT

I’m not sure i agree with the 3 new, strong, token only cards idea. That would make it so that only the factions that do well will be rewarded and those that do poorly will suffer. I wanted to make an event where everyone who participates will be able to gain the rewards that they unlock and not be limited by currency amounts (at least not to the point where they can’t get their reward). The idea of tripling the tokens gained from the event also has some flaws, namely lower faction that gain 1-3 tokens a day will only get 3-9 tokens whereas higher up factions, like Modern Slaves (proud member :3), will get 24 tokens. Of course, the major factor in all this speculation is the cost of the reward cards.

Your third idea of a few “goldmine” tiles is splendid, and I would like to see it implemented into the current normal CQ and not just added for a CQ event.

I had already considered your final suggestion of removing a row instead of removing CR when I was writing my proposal, and I feel that such a thing would only serve to drag on the event. I don’t want to event to be too long that it becomes boring; I want it long enough for people to be satisfied and not extend further. Removing an outer boundary every week or so will severely extend the time of the event (perhaps by 4 weeks or so). Also, it would make factions cut deals with each other as to let certain factions get certain tiles to avoid being knocked out. Certainly, I can foresee those exact actions happening under the current proposal, but it would be much harder to act out. I’m not sure I like the idea of factions cutting deals, but it might be an interesting thing to see.

TL;DR: Don’t really agree with 1) and 2), like 3), don’t really agree with switching CR with boundary removal although the gameplay that results from it might be interesting to watch.

You never know if it will happen or not. Realistically, it most likely won’t be used, however it may give the devs some ideas for making their own conquest event or it could give other players an idea or inspiration to create a much better suggestion than mine. Plus I did this in my free time and I enjoyed developing the suggestion so I’m content for the most part even if this suggestion isn’t going to happen.

Rewards

The rewards will be shops what will be unlocked based on how far a faction has progressed. The shops will each contain a single card; the farther you progressed the better the card (cards will be new, sort of like Longshot, Heracles, Meteor). Shops will be unlocked for the players in the faction, not for the whole faction. This is to prevent factions from mass recruiting and kicking players so they can buy the cards. In order to determine how many shops a player unlocks, the player will get an achievement that states which week his/her faction got eliminated. All shops up to and including that elimination week will be unlocked. Players eligible for rewards must have been in the faction prior to the event, players who join after the event has started must participate in at least 1/3 of the faction’s event conquests to be eligible for awards.

The reward cards will be new cards in subsequent events. This is to provide incentive and new cards (who doesn’t like getting new cards?). Of course, the cards from past events will also be available for purchase in their corresponding shops or for WarBonds (cards would be released like how Synapticon has released previous event cards).

To purchase the reward cards, the player can use gold, shards, or conquest tokens. Of course, all three currencies have to be balanced out so that none of the payment methods are overpriced. The reason for this is because previously people have complained about event points and how they limit the amount of cards a player can get from an event. With this proposed payment method, there should no longer be an issue.

Below are the shops available for each event.

The Conquerors’ League

Map

The map for this event will be the 16×16 tile conquest map. I didn’t feel like coming up with new map dimensions and it should be spacious enough to allow for an explosive start from the 20 factions.

I’m currently debating between leaving the origin tile as the 20 CR tile or changing it to 5 CR, depending on how the gameplay might shift.

Gameplay

The gameplay will be the same as it was in “Aspirations towards Greatness” although it should be much more fierce. Each week, the lowest 5 factions in CR are eliminated. Furthermore, each week the map will lose it’s outer border (i.e. 16×16 → 14×14 → 12×12 → 10×10). The purpose of the smaller map is to promote competition and allow for risky alliances, strategies, etc. At the end of the fourth week, the faction with the most CR will be dubbed the “Tyrant of insertyearhere” and thus ends the event.

Aspirations towards Greatness

Map

The map will be a 2×2 square consisting of four of the current conquest maps. Picture a foursquare box with each of the four boxes as one of the current conquest map. The four boxes will be separated by a border which will not allow factions to invade over into other boxes. These boxes will be styled as “continents”.

The purpose of having four “continents” is so that every faction can be accommodated should one choose to join. The current conquest map will not allow for every faction to have a tile. Each “continent” will be isolated from other “continents”. Factions within each “continent” will only fight other factions in the same “continent”.

I’m currently debating between leaving the origin tile as the 20 CR tile or changing it to 5 CR, depending on how the gameplay might shift.

Gameplay

At the start of the event, factions that want to participate are given the choice of choosing which continent they want to join (options: NW, NE, SE, SW). Once the faction chooses a continent, the faction will be able to see the map of the continent that it chose, as well as having the option to see a larger map of all four continents. The faction will then attempt to gain as much CR as it can. After the first week, the lowest 20% in CR will be eliminated. Note, the 20% is calculated from the total amount of factions in each continent (i.e. 100 total participants then 20 eliminated each week). The first event will draw to a conclusion in 5 weeks. Every subsequent week 20% of the factions with the lowest CR will be eliminated. After 3 weeks however, the continent shrinks by half (32×32 becomes 16×16). The new shrunken continent will be the map for the remaining 2 weeks. At the end of the fifth week, the top 10 factions in CR on each continent will advance to the next event.

Concept

I recall a while back that there were multiple requests for a conquest themed event to supplement the other events hosted (Marrow Aileron, Heart of Corruption, Primus, Pip). I was daydreaming a couple days ago and just happened to conceive of an idea for a conquest event. After ruminating for the past few days, I’ve mostly fleshed out the idea and now, I present it to you all.

First of all, the conquest event will be styled like a knockout free-for-all tournament. The main event, let’s call “Path to the Tyrant’s Throne”, will last a little more than two months in total (i.e. July, August, 9 weeks). The reason for that is because conquest takes quite a large amount of coordination and time for each faction. If the duration was shorter, then the conquest gameplay will not be as enjoyable—it would instead become a frantic race to the top, which would make it very unsatisfying for the lower level factions.

Secondly, the main event will be divided into to sub events: “Aspirations towards Greatness” and “The Conquerors’ League”. Every faction that wishes to participate in the event starts in “Aspirations towards Greatness” and the winners from that event go on to “The Conqueror’s League”. Each sub event will have its own map. Rules will be explained below.

Third, winners of each event will be determined by CR, not tile count nor FP. In addition, there will be tiered rewards for participants. Obviously the farther you go the more rewards and better rewards you obtain.

It should go without saying that all the names given for the events can be changed. I made them up on the spot and can always be changed to better titles. I’d like any feedback you guys might have, and hopefully this suggestion inspires others to design their own events.

I have compiled my tyrant_optimize using catepillar’s guide on the first page, and I removed the entire unit for the Necrogeddon issue. I just copied and pasted the Custom.txt and ownedcards.txt from my old tyrant_optimize version (Commonkey’s) into the newly compiled tyrant_optimize. Also in the newly compiled tyrant_optimize, I still have all the H files and CPP files, I don’t know if they’re supposed to be there. Any help would be appreciated.

try
C:\MinGW\tyrant_optimize>tyrant_optimize.exe ogre-spam “Mission 100” climb 1000

if it works, the .exe is fine…. then add flags one by one, and recheck your txt’s and xmls
if it doesn’t work, recompile or get the already compiled .exe from the net.
if you recompile, make sure you get the latest version since there are a couple obsolete ones out there…

Thank you very much, I managed to get it to work. It’s a bit weird since I also tried my previous commands that crashed the program and they also worked, I guess it was just a bit buggy.

Never mind, I figured it out. Apparently I had to delete cards.xml and re-download it.
