Topic: General Gaming / Open-ended games

Hey guys! So I’m working on developing a game with some other people, and right now we’re trying to look at games, most likely puzzle games, that have more than one solution to the problems they offer. A good example of this might be Fantastic Contraption.

Any recommendations on games like this would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Topic: Off-topic / I received Watchmen for my Birthday.

It’s interesting. There were many aspects of it that I thought were very creative and different for it’s time, and even still stand out today. I think the end-of-the-world, dreary mindset that is deep within the root of the plot (and obviously deep within the era itself) really resonates today, considering the world that we live in, and the fact that this could be incorporated into a superhero medium makes it even more relating. I’m typically not a fan of superhero comics (and films) because I think they just tend me shallow and lack a lot of artistic substance, but Watchmen – along with a few choice others – really are exempt from this.

I suppose what is most striking about Watchmen is how well it paralleled the feeling of the era it was in. It was written in the midst of the cold war, and it’s all about some old retired superheroes who are all dried up and out of work in this new era where there aren’t really any definable bad guys, just an overall sense of dread. That’s not at all unlike the cold war in the real world, where we had moved passed any sort of great wars where men went out and fought for their country, and the same sense of unity in the country had really dissipated. All that was left was just this sense of dread that everything could end at any moment, and while there was still the “rahhh rahh commies!” nationalism, it definitely didn’t hold a candle to the old sense of patriotism. I think Watchmen really sums up this transformation of a country’s peoples’ mindset really well, which is why it’s so interesting as a novel.

Well, I’ve smoked a lot of weed. I don’t smoke as much anymore unless I’m out with friends and sort of in the mood because these days it just makes me hazy and lightheaded, and usually quite tired as well. For about the first year of smoking weed, way back when, many of the highs were unique and different. Sadly, it’s not that why anymore, and the same goes for pretty much anybody else I know who has spent a good amount of time smoking weed regularly.

Try it, of course. There’s no real harm to it as long as you’re mature, and it’s better than sitting around being curious. Weed is like any other substance you put into your body (caffeine, sugar ect.), the only reason you have more apprehension about it is the social stigma surrounding it.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Losing faith in humanity

It’s a figure of speech, and nothing else. A few take it a bit further and make claims like “humanity is scum, I hope the world is wiped out one day”, but those people are typically just craving for attention, and frustrated at their disturbing lack of it.
