List of Useful Skills
Well I don’t think Akaneiro needs a walkthrough…the areas are pretty straightforward, besides Bloodfang fort mission 2 being a mazy thing.
so Imma do a Skill guide. Its all mostly opinion from tinkering around with 3 chars, a fortitude specialist, a prowess/fort hybrid and a cunning/fort hybrid.
yea, all 3 of them have fortitude skills lol. its just that good
FORTITUDE
1. Chi Prayer (MUST HAVE)
basically eats lots of energy, but regen lots of health. my fortitude specialist can plow thru mobs with no loss of hp when this is cast.
2. Chi Mend (MUST HAVE)
your emergency heal when chi prayer doesn’t quite cut it when 2 mini boss + big mob group are ganking you.
3. Stone Skin (somewhat good)
its not that bad, and it complements the 2 skills above, and makes quite the tanky tandem skill set trio. but the chi prayer/mend makes stone skin look bad
4. Ring of Frost (somewhat good)
AOE with slowww! ok it is nice to use it on a big mob group, but poor RoF tends to get slapped down the casting priority because chi prayer/mend is too useful.
5. Haunting scream (okayish situational)
only for a last second resort to buy you time to run and heal from a big mob group. otherwise kinda useless.
Iron thorns sux. the end.
TOTAL : I’d rate fortitude skill list 9/10. loses 1pt for starting with iron thorns, which sucks. fortitude does what its name says : keep you ALIVE.
PROWESS
1. Seeing Red (MUST HAVE)
If you’re going to specialize in RED and use RED skills, you’d better be boosting yo RED. even when skill spamming ain’t your cup of tea, the boost to ATK is still a good thing. in fact, this skill is handy no matter what “class” is your favourite because you can never go wrong with extra dmg even if you not using other RED skills.
2. Shockwave (very good)
Basically ring of frost + haunting scream. minus the “slow” part. good to prevent overcrowding, saving your hide and putting some dmg.
3. Meteor rain (very good)
your best, strongest AOE. just the lack of “slow” or “scattering enemies” a bit sad. it does get quite close to the “MUST HAVE” status because its dmg is AWESOME.
4. Hungry Cleave (good)
basically when surrounded, u use it to regain hp. bah, use chi prayer/mend. is better. its basically a weaker chi mend with some aoe dmg. dmg nothign fantastic to write home abt, and the above has better aoes listed. those better aoes which slap hungry cleave down the priority list of awesome skills to use.
the rest of the skills are kinda meh…
TOTAL : 8/10. loses 1 pt because you start out kinda squishy and ur dmg output isn’t fast enough to save you. but once you gear up, lvl up yo skills and kill stuff reallly fast, you’re good to go.
the 2nd pt is lost because like it or not, while the fortitude branch can grow by itself and kick ass w/o dipping into other 2 classes, prowess will eventually meet a nasty overrun mission that just begs you to get chi prayer.
CUNNING
1. Dark Hunter (must have for cunning specialists, not so for other classes)
Skill boosts crit hits, and thats just it. I’m personally the kind that prefer solid stats (atk, def, hp) than “chance stats” (X% chance to blabla etc). if you wanna use a couple of cunning skills, you will want this skill, but if you going to be a fort/pro main and take cunning as ur secondary, no thanks.
1. Caltrops (MUST HAVE)
this is a good crowd controller. set up, lure mobs, BOOM TRAP. its very good and can spread over a decent area (not just some little circle around you like the other crowd controlling aoes by other 2).
2. Firebomb trap (MUST HAVE)
Meteor rain and caltrops had a baby and it is AWESOME. like meteor rain, its missing the crowd controlling component, but makes up for it with AWESOME dmg
4. Ninja Escape (okayish situational)
well, I’d rather be able to aoe or cc the crap out of surrounding mobs than try a ninja escape (and no dmg to boot). imo haunting scream buys you more time than ninja escape here.
only time this can really shine is in stages where the boss can SLOW your movement down, then smack you with aoe. you ninja escape b4 the boss finish casting to save yourself the pain.
otherwise, there are better “save yo ass” options available.
the 2 shots are kinda meh, especially since this game heavily favors melee, and likes to gank you alot. oh and bosses are reputedly immune to poison dammit.
TOTAL : 6/10, sorry ninja lovers. basically your 2 best dmg skills require luring mobs to trigger them, and your shots suck. the other 2 clases easily have better skills too.
as an extra slap to ninjas, movement boost sucks compared to health and energy regen. at least armor def (no matter heavy, med or light) is the same so you don’t get an extra layer of suck having lightest armor and worst armor bonus together.
and dueling is probably the worst “weapon mastery type” among the 3 too. Fort has BIG ass nodachi and axes with high dmg, and prowess peeps can wield two of what a cunning would wield. just sad. only bright side is that you can kite and lure mobs to your traps faster. thankfully no mobs with some serious long range
playing pure cunning is just PAINFUL, I originally wanted to do a pure fort, prowess hybrid and pure cunning. My fort char became my main, followed by prowess and the poor ninja is tucked in a corner in yomi village.
so anyone wanting a cunning hybrid just get these 2 skills, and maybe ninja escape and stop there. then focus on either fort or prowess all the way.
Class combinations (based on my gameplay with 3 chars), using all 9 skill slots (3×3)
1. Fort/prowess ( 9/10 )
- defensive + aoe hybrid. stone skin + chi prayer/mend + both classes aoes.
- wear med armor for energy regen
- good survivability and some dmg.
- can be dual wield or two-handed
- only downside is you might burn thru energy pretty fast.
2. Fort/cunning (9/10)
- defensive + trap hybrid (can toss in ring of frost).
- wear either heavy armor for hp or med armor for regen.
- two-handed is optimal for this.
- less straightforward than fort/pro, but can be potentially just as powerful.
3. Pure Fort (7/10)
- you’re not utilizing the 9 skill slots and akaneiro is very encouraging towards hybridizing so pure fort loses points in spite of the skill rated by itself scoring a 9
- imo the only somewhat viable “pure class” in the long run from start to finish.
4. Prowess/Cunning (6/10)
- good offense, but no way to replenish hp in middle of battle.
- basically lure mobs into ur traps, then aoe any survivors. you’ll clean areas pretty fast but boss fights might be an issue since this build lacks the endurance to play “outlast you”.
I…wouldn’t recommend pure prowess or cunning really.
Feel free to discuss (maybe disagree).
