Topic: Kongregate / Deleting Topics

To extend on this, I think that people should be able to delete topics if

a) The are moderators, and the topics are abusive. b) They are the owner of the post, and the only poster.

Topic: Kongregate / Kongregate Premium Games

cpasley, can you give us a general update on how things are going? Like, if there are plans for new games, what stage the earlier ones are in, etc.

Topic: Kongregate / Kongai Forum

Seriously, so far we have almost everyone voting for a dedicated kongai forum.

There are no cons that I can see either. So can Kongregate PLEASE spend the 15 minutes or hour or however long it takes to set up a new forum section?

Topic: Technical Support / Suddenly 8 health dissapears

Guys, I can’t be sure, but my guess is you played against a character with Necromatic Tomes equipped.

The game doesn’t animate Necromatic tomes dealing damage, so you would either suddenly loose 10 life after being hit by an attack, or if you have < 10 life, die.

Topic: Kongregate / Kongai: How are Rankings calculated?

How are Rankings calculated? I know how it roughly works (you win, it goes up, you lose, it goes down), but it certainly doesn’t go up one rank per win and down one rank per loss. So how does it really work?

Topic: Kongregate / kongregate points suggestion

Thats a very good idea, Ele124. I’m going to elaborate on it.

One REALLY good thing that Kongregate could do is assign rewards to levels, whether those be levels in Kongai (this would have to be a card), or to levels in site. Kongai cards are the most obvious rewards, but for the site levels at least, you could think of something else. For instance, you could have a “rank” next to your name based on level. So every level would unlock a rank. Ranks would be short phrases displayed bellow your name (or next to it).

Also. There should be a “KNOWN KONGAI BUGS” sticky, if possible.

Topic: Kongregate / Kongai Farming: Trying to Alert DEV.

Does Kongregate keep a list of who wins/losses were against, or only number? If they do, I’m sure there is a way to almost autimatically end the problem. Just look for people who have many wins against people with no wins. Basically, If person A lost 100 times, and won say 5, while person A played 60 of the games against person A, both A and B should be banned.

Topic: Kongregate / For those of us who play at work..

In theory, it would be plausible to set up a system where you could transfer data through your account. But that would need a LOT of storage, so much as to render the idea unworkable.

My suggestion: use a flash drive.

Topic: Kongregate / The Kongai card earning system is completely screwed up

1) This applies to several people who posted, among them Ilk.

I think you guys are taking something for granted which shouldn’t be true at all. That the game is unbalanced. The idea was for every card to be approximately equal in power. So technically, with even a very small card pool, you should be able to build a competitive deck. granted, this is not true at the moment, but that is because the game is in Beta and is not yet completely balanced.

2) And specifically for Ilk. Your last points don’t seem accurate.

Sirlin absolutely detests aspects of games that give you an advantage over an opponent that you did not earn in that very game. That is, time > skill and money > skill are huge faux pas in his book. If I understand Sirlin correctly, every player would have access to every single kongai card any time they wanted to.

No, not quite. Like I said earlier, if the game is balanced, you don’t need nearly every card to not be at a disadvantage. And thought the barrier to entry will exist, it will be small, since you already start with a starter deck, plus, you can use random decks.

A) he designed it with people that play to win in mind as opposed to those playing to have fun B) he designed it with the intention of there being no barriers to entry C) he designed it so that money or time was not at all a substitute for skill.

A) Can’t vouch for him, but I think that if you asked Sirlin, he’d say that he designed the game in mind for both groups, B) see above, C) see above.

3) Also for Ilk. To answer your question.

what would be the harm in leaving up the challenges?

There are several problems with doing this. The most important of which is that it would make challenges too much like badges.

4) Also, the current system is sound financially. Like Ambushbug said, many people log on, get the challange, and log off, when otherwise they would just forget about Kongregate.

5) For the record. I do agree with Ilk on one point. Cards should be eisier to get. Maybe make a bigger starter deck…?

Topic: Kongregate / spamming / stupid links

I laughed the first time it happened to me.

But yeah, I can see why it could get annoying. On the bright side, it’s better then posting referral links, or say, links to a page that doesn’t let you leave (that one happened to me on April fools day once. Had to kill it manually).

Topic: Kongregate / Is this allowed? (developer stuff)

Like everyone said, Kongregate is much better. But if you prefer Nanoba, what can I say?

To answer your question. YES. As long as you have an actually game, and not just an advertisement, you can submit it. In fact, this is almost the same as branding, and most games here have that.

Thats not enough. Kongregate explicitly states this. One must BE the actual developer to post it.

Topic: Kongregate / Tournament Concept

Its a great idea. I think this would be a good addition to kongregate.

There are a few problems and logistic issues that would have to be sorted out, but I don’t see any major concerns.

About hackers. Its true that there would have to be some protection for the system. But the same thing is true for Kongai, so if they make good pretection for it, that should be sufficient for and could be adapted to this.

Also, I don’t think this should be by invitation only. What you could do is have some prequalifying event for tournaments with too many comers (or just first come first serve).

All in all, I think that this is a good idea, and should be actively considered (staff, that means you!).

About 2); it would be a good idea to hold starter deck resets every month or two. THen, picking starters is important, but not permanent.

Topic: Kongregate / A new kind of achievement.

Its an interesting thought.

I like this idea. Kongregate needs more shiny things (for lack of a better way to put it). Kongregate also needs more metagame elements; anything that spans more then one game is better then something that only includes one. And I love the idea of having different levels of trophy; it would be an interesting twist.

Unfortunatly, there is a down side. These have to be trophies and not badges. In fact, they have to be SIGNIFICANTLY different from badges, or there is really no point. Trophies have to be unique.

I think I have a possible solution, though. It would be fun if you trophies wern’t instantly availible, like badges. Instead, you would periodically be given acess to a random trophy you don’t have? It would be random and uncommon, but not dirrectly related to the amount of time spent on the site (so that you shouldn’t be forsed to ‘lie in wait” for trophies). Basically, I want trophies to make people be a good surprise, rather then something they have to work to get. I can’t really imagine a good, fair, and not anoying way to do this, but its an idea.

Topic: Kongregate / Alternative Rewards For Challenges

@ kovec and hipcheck

I don’t know about the people before me, but I certainly don’t mean badges. Badges are nice and all, but they are purely for points and for collecting; they have no gameplay value. What I am saying is that cards, which have gameplay value in Kongai should be valuble for something else.

@ Darksimal

you guys come on you guys know that this site has enough, trying to make this website more perfect could ruin it.

I really hope you weren’t being serious there. Because what you are saying is that contributing and trying to make something better will ruin it. And that’s just not right. For example, would you like it (and would you think it was better) if Kongregate decided that it should NOT make the premium games? Can you imagine Greg saying “We’ve decided to stop making badges, since we feel that doing so would be trying to improve the site, and that can ruin it”?
