Topic: Technical Support / "Recommended Games" algorithm not so great

For that matter, here’s another recommendation for me: Steambirds (Plane, Turn Based, Strategy) because I rated Clockwords: Prelude (Word, Typing, Steampunk).

You can see why I think something might be broken.

Thanks for the reply. At level 46, with something like 5 years on Kong, I’d think the algorithm would have a pretty decent sample size. I’ve rated at least 60% of the games I’ve played, if not more. This is why I’m thinking it might be an actual bug with the program. Or that I’ve played everything else it could possibly recommend to me and this is all it had left that I hadn’t played. Can’t rule that out exactly either. It just seems like something that should be looked at to verify that it is indeed doing what it’s supposed to do. Like I said, I don’t really use it and didn’t notice it until yesterday, but I’m sure lots of other people use it, unless it’s giving everyone bad recommendations.

Topic: Technical Support / "Recommended Games" algorithm not so great

So I looked at the front page at my “Recommended Games” area. I’ve never really looked at this before – I decide on my games based on badges, mostly, or highly ranked new games – but I noticed today it had a lot of tower defense on it. 6 of 9 recommended games were tower defense. Because I had rated things like “Sonny” and “Decision 2” highly. Thing is, neither of those games is tower defense. In fact, I don’t play tower defense because I suck at it. So I started trying to remove those games from my list and ended up wiping out at least 15-20 recommended tower defense games.

If I don’t play tower defense, why am I being recommended tower defense games based on the high rankings I gave to non-tower-defense games? I’m thinking the algorithm behind this program might need to be reevaluated.

Obviously this isn’t a blocking point stopping my play, but it is on the main page, and I can’t be the only one who’s getting crappy recommendations and just been ignoring them forever. After the years of playing I’ve done on Kong, I’d think that it would be a little better about figuring out what kind of games I like (especially since that tech isn’t new, and the data from every game I’ve ever played I know is saved in a database somewhere). I seriously recommend this recommend feature be fixed.
