Topic: Game Programming / AS3 - Comparing Classes

Maybe I am misunderstanding what you want to do but it sounds like “is” is what you are after to me. Code like “objectX is classX” would return true if any part of objectX’s class hierachy contained classX.

I’d highly advise collaborating and sharing files through dropbox instead, as it auto-syncs files across computers through shared folders, which makes life much easier. Also auto-backups.

Link if you’re interested; www.dropbox.com

Also, isn’t winrar a free download anyway?

Sounds cool, but two things;

Firstly, I assume entrants can define extra functions to be called from eval if needed?
Secondly, you haven’t written how to access the opponents posX and posY.

Is that a plus or a minus? Is there an existing zombie game that does this that you can link to?

This is proceduraly generated

I think a few roguelikes are about zombies
Also L4D is arguably proceduraly generated.

Topic: Game Design / Which is the best design method?

No, there are two types of prototyping, one where the product is intended to be thrown away and another where it is kept and then built into the full product if its worthwhile. Both are valid uses of the word prototype. Both have low cost of course

A preloader is an an important, often forgotten but definitely core feature as well I’d say. Otherwise people will have no idea if the game is loading or not and will just 1* and leave

Naww, that works in flash textfields but Windows requires \r\n. I recall hearing other OS’s don’t.

Topic: Game Programming / New line in a text file

Sorry that might be me getting \r\n the wrong way round in my last post (edited now).

Just checked and it works fine with file reference instead of clipboard. Using just this code;

var texta:String = “Hello\r\nWorld”
var fileref:FileReference = new FileReference()
fileref.save(texta);

Gives a text file with the intended linebreak. Does something like that work for you at all?

Topic: Game Programming / New line in a text file

Oh I might know where you are going wrong.

Are you setting the clipboard to whatever is in the textbox? Because that dosen’t work, you need to set it to a string that isn’t in a textbox
so

var word:String = “Hello\r\nWorld”
System.setClipboard(word).

Assumedley that might help with using fileReference as well but I wouldn’t know.

You could use System.setClipboard(), because \r\n works fine in conjunction with that. Just output all of your text to the clipboard and then paste it into the document. Perhaps not a great solution but not too inconvenient

function moveEnemies(){

	{
		//set a temporary var that will reference an enemy in the array
		var tempEnemy:MovieClip = enemyArray[i]

		if(tempEnemy.moving == 1){
			tempEnemy._x += (Math.cos(tempEnemy._rotation) *(180/Math.PI) * 2);
			tempEnemy._y += (Math.sin(tempEnemy._rotation) *(180/Math.PI) * 2);

			if(CollisionDetection.checkForCollision(tempEnemy , L1hit_mc , 255)){
				tempEnemy._rotation = 0-tempEnemy._rotation;
			}
		}
	}
}

Am I just being stupid here? :P

Fixed. You had the conversion the wrong way round, you wanted 180/PI, not PI/180.

Would have to get a mic first… It’d be even neater if I did all the musix with my voices (lol, voices?) voice too :P

Ever played timesplitters 3? It had an option which replaced all the gun sounds with mouth sounds and so I can assure you that its a cool thing to do. Music would really step up the game there though.

Originally posted by GameBuilder15:

Truefire, that would be awesome, it’s like beat boxing. Also don’t forget the voice acting. ;)

Stealth, I wasn’t trying to advertise, I actually thought this would be a relevant place to post this. And seriously, what is it with you people that can’t beat day 2? Are you buying a better gun or using the pistol (even though I can beat it either way xD)?

Did you consider giving players a warning that its a hard game? It tends to ease things a bit if they are expecting to lose a lot. Also, maybe you should tell people that they should be buying a better gun once they win a level?

radiansnumber*(180/Math.PI)

will give you the degrees.

To convert the other way *(Math.PI/180)

Nerdook
Jiggmin
BerzerkStudio

Who else?

Loads. Nitrome definitely, the guy who made steambirds, the people behind gemcraft, I think rebuilds developer, armorgames I assume.

I think your just listing the ones that frequent kongregate, which is probably a minority.

Well you could always recreate the functionallity of a for loop using a while loop to avoid having to use any ;’s. ;)

Semicolons optional!?! I won’t even consider how that works. In that train of thought lies madness.

You’d better stay away from the languages without curly brackets then ;)

_root.shot.duplicateMovieClip("shot"+shotcount,shotcount+7000);
	shotcount++;

	}

Something like this, in whatever it is that fires the bullets.
