Does anyone else experience this? When I upload a new version of a game, often there will be no preview, yet I can hear the game’s sound playing. I usually just attempt to upload it a few more times and it finally works.

I was going to ask this question in an email to Greg, but I think it would be beneficial for everyone to know.

I’m getting a few bug reports about people not getting the card when they score 1 million points in Oroboros. This is likely due to how often scores get sent to Kong. Currently I send the score when you finish a level, when you die, and when you press the restart button.

My question is this: Since scoring happens quite rapidly in Oroboros -sometimes 5-10 times a second- how would performance be affected if I sent an update each time the players score changed?

I fixed the bug with the screen going black at load time. I could only occasionally reproduce it in IE, but I corrected a few things, and now it seems to be resolved.

Oroboros Updates:

*Fixed tail switching issue where armor/blades status was getting reset improperly.
*Added 2 new Power-ups (Invincibility and Regrow Segment)
*Added restart button to the in-game menu
*Added new level “All You can Eat”
*Fixed numerous bugs and potential exploits (Thanks to all the Kong Players who submitted bug reports)

I uploaded a new version this morning with a bunch of bug fixes based on input from all of the kong Players.

There are two new power-ups, which should help out on the higher levels (Invincibility, and Regrow Segment).

The tail switching (x for blades, and z for armor) is improved. The armor and blades power-ups no longer overwrite each other. For instance: you can use up all of your armor, and still switch back to blades if you previously had any blades remaining.

I’ve made games with flash lite 2.0 before and it works great!
2.1 is the latest version, and they really improved performance over the previous versions. That said, you still need to optimize more than you ever have before, perhaps even to the point of not using any vector graphics (bitmaps are faster).

Check and see if your phone is supported, but the player will sometimes work even if your phone isn’t listed.

Adobe says they are committed to making flash lite a universal standard on mobile phones so we will see…

It will only work if you put it on your phone, and it’s set up to use either the center button or the number keys to play. just copy the .swf file to your phone and the flash player will run it.

I went ahead and made a demo where a Shockwave movie and a Flash movie share information using a Local Connection Object. They are two separate movies running in the same browser window.

if anyone is watching this thread, please let me know if this type of solution could be applied to tracking statistics for Shockwave movies. I’d be glad to help out if possible.

If I wanted to track statistics for a Shockwave game, would it be possible to include a Flash movie in the Shockwave game just for this purpose? Director can easily communicate with an embedded Flash movie, so it seems like it would work…

Yeah,
For online content Flash definitely wins at the moment. Adobe keeps saying that they want to move Director’s focus towards becoming a full featured game-dev tool in future releases though…

So what does everyone think about Shockwave games vs Flash games?

Personally, I prefer to use Director(Shockwave) to make games because of it’s 3D Engine + Havok Physics, and the fact that it can also play Flash content.

Flash is obviously the better choice though, since it’s more widely supported and has better animation tools, not to mention it’s cheaper.

I’m going to be uploading both Shockwave and Flash games to test the water and see how everyone likes them.
