I played the arena a lot (in fact I think I’m in about 6-7th place in the arena standings right now) and honestly I like the arena better before these new “balancing” changes. My max fleet power is only about 320k (though it was mostly around 300k for much of the early arena). I got utterly crushed all the time by 500K+ players — but it was fun. Now it is not so fun — probably evidenced by fewer people playing (At least that is my observation). Why if it less fun?
1. Being pwned by larger more powerful fleets was fun. It encouraged your to exp and grow your fleet. It encouraged some strategy. There was actually a frankly kind of neat culture developing where higher FP players would “feed” a host to extremely lower FP players. It was kind of cool — I spent more time in chat than I ever did before because of this cool culture. In the current system it’s so hard to tell who is stronger and who is weaker that it discourages taking risks.
2. What’s worse, with the current system it feels like you have to basically need to gimp your current fleet to be competitive — and it doesn’t fix the fact that high FP players still can dominate as they can make specialized fleets with low FP way better.
3. It doesn’t even feel like you are playing the same fleet — rather you are playing some weird mutant fleet that gets worse every time you exp.
What I would suggest is remove the caps and “balance” the FP difference by how many valor you grant people for a win. Or make it relative to your current arena ranking? At least if someone wants to make a low FP small fleet, they lose out slightly against people willing to play with the strongest fleet they can.
