Too much? I honestly thought it was too little, at least if you’re going for the impossible badge (leveling everyone up so they’re strong for the arena can be time consuming).

Topic: MARDEK RPG: Chapter 3 / Your Favorite MARDEK Moments

Mardek 3 is chocked full of humour, considerably more than the previous two. There are just too many moments to count/remember. So here are some that hopefully haven’t already been mentioned:

Aeropolis Palace Guard:
“NO EFFING FOREIGNERS IN THE PALACE!!!”

SPOILER WARNING!

Donovan: “I’m here for you, father! Hold on! You’ll make it! You’ll pull through! Save your strength!”
King: “Cliches cannot save me now, my son…”

Later…

Verhn: “Who’s up for a game of twister?!”
Elwyen: “Ooo! Me! Me!”
Donovan “My father is lying dead on the floor here.”
Verhn: “Well I guess he’ll have to sit this one out, then.”

I dunno about everyone else, but I find Sharla (and Donovan) too situational to be a regular party member. She gets points for being able use better supporting skills than Donovan and for her elemental superiority in the Earth Temple and Lifewood in general. Other than that, I generally have Legion or Sslen’ck in her position as they have a bit more variety or massive offensive power (respectively).

Topic: MARDEK RPG: Chapter 3 / Animus advice

Using spirit graft to increase Elwyen’s spirit? Damn, I never thought of that one.

Anyway, I got by using Mardek, Elwyen, Gloria and Legion. Equip them with your best armour and give them turquiose stones (don’t forget to activate aether resistance in the abilities menu). Speedy juiced Gloria and Mardek, Gloria had to place as many ‘null elements’ up as quickly as possible and use whirlpool to kill Animus’ spirit, Mardek took healing and offensive duties (using elemental slashes). Runic rhapsody on Elwyen while Legion used items and occasionally dealt damage with Tsunami/Inferno/Earthquake/Thunderstorm.

After about 30 min or so, I reduced him to 5-6k health and he cast Megabarrier. I found myself breaking even between damage dealing and his regen. Change of tact: Elwyen used Dolorous Dirge for defense ignoring damage. If you havent reduced Animus’ spirit to 0, don’t bother until it is; he may end up killing your party with double soul/ion storms. Be sure to keep your ‘null elements’ up on the entire party throughout the battle, especially wind (Delay buster will really kill your party and throw off your strategy).

This is what happens when you attempt to appeal to a mainstream audience. I still like The Resistance, but Undisclosed Desires gets so much undeserved praise from mainstream culture and I find it ridiculous. Hopefully, this will be as mainstream as Muse get. If they have any common sense, they will not continue to strip and retard their music any further to appeal to a wide audience. If that happens, it could really destroy them and what made them awesome: uniqueness and individuality. Plus, their live performances will be swarmed with legions of ‘fans’ who don’t know shit about the band’s music at all. That would be a sad day for Muse fans worldwide.

well i think we can all agree that as long as they keep their trend with changing every album then they should be fine. I mean you honestly can’t expect the same sound on every album of an artist with as much talent and creativity as muse has. i mean the resistance was barely decent but if they follow up with something better they’ll get lots of fans back.

Mmm, fingers are crossed on that one. Constantly changing sound is definitely one of Muse’s traits to differientiate themselves from the rest of the pack, and its a very good one at that. The ‘mass appeal’ of The Resistance may have just been an accident, all just in an attempt to experiment with different genres, another thing that Muse does pretty well. But lets face it, they’ve done this with their last 4 studios albums, why wouldn’t they do it with the next one? Would they really kill the traditions that found them their true fanbase? If Matt truly knows what the fans want, he will do the right thing.

I think I can safely say that it’s Muse’s most unusual album by far, but I suppose that comes from being progressive eh? It will probably turn off those who don’t possess an open-mind, save maybe the singles.

Song Assessment:
New born – Nice piano introduction, the awesomeness continues with the guitar riffs and choruses.
Bliss – One of the rockier songs of the album, pretty cool.
Space Dementia – Where the wierdness begins, interesting use of synthesizers, etc. Matt really knows how to play that piano!
Hyper Music – Same as Bliss except better IMO. They really should play this live more often.
Plug in Baby – Same again, impossible not to love. Pretty much a staple of live performances.
Citizen Erased – I love the apocalyptic atmosphere the song creates, truly an amazing piece.
Micro Cuts – The guitar work at the end is pretty good, but I’m not really too big with this song at present. Perhaps a few more listens will help.
Screenager – Bit of a meh song if you ask me, slow and a bit uninspired. Works well when driving at night though.
Dark Shines – Pretty good, underrated if you ask me. Bit of a shame they don’t play it live these days.
Feeling Good – Its a cover, but its an excellent one at that! Nice and simple, but gets you singing alright.
Megalomania – Matt uses the church organs to interesting effect. Slow, but it really sets the mood for rainy days.

Favourites: New born, Hyper Music, Plug in Baby, Citizen Erased, Feeling Good
Of course, that’s not to say that I hate all the others…
It’s certainly not one of those albums that you can simply listen to once and shelve it, it took me quite a few listens to understand and appreciate it. Its the album that differientiated Muse from Radiohead.

The Guitar Hero series doesn’t count, I think…(I’m assuming that ‘licensed music’ means anything that isn’t an original composition from an existing artist)

The Final Fantasy series has some pretty amazing music, at least from 1-6 (I’ve never played 7 and beyond). I think the Halo soundtrack is really overrated: most pieces sound more or less the same to me.

I guess Stephanie can’t help it if her fans are a bunch of pop music addicted nutcases. To be honest, I’ve never actually read the Twilight series, but the first movie was enough for me. Anything with the name extension of ‘Twilight’ at the end tends to incite rage from that point on.

Yea, I personally liked Twilight (books not movies), but I know for sure that many of the poser fans were stemmed from the release of one of their songs into the 1st Twilight movie. This isn’t Stephenie’s fault because she only created the books :/ … We need to find the dope that actually shamed muse’s name by putting the song into the movie.

Edit: Suppermassive Black Hole is still a good song.

Well, I should hope to god that the books aren’t anything like the movie. Otherwise I’ll probably be turned off for good; watching that movie and knowing about this cult following left a really bad taste in my mouth…
I also love Supermassive Black Hole, the retarded ‘Muse fans’ are what really piss me off.

From the entirety of the Black Holes album, SBH was probably one of my least favourite of the songs there.
I certainly liked Assassin, Exo-Politics, City of Delusion and Glorious a lot more. (Woo Glorious)

I can’t say that I was really a fan of Assassin, I found the guitar sound awful (to Dom’s credit though, his drumwork was pretty amazing). The other songs are pretty good, I’d love to hear City of Delusion live for certain. From BH&R, I give notable mentions to Take a bow and Invincible. Take a Bow was an epic opening track that really set the mood for the rest of the album, and Invincible, while it might a few good listens to get into, is an incredible piece. It also sported the best guitar solo that I’ve heard from Muse for quite a while now.

What do you think of Origin of Symetry? I’m interested to hear someone else’s opinion on it.

Topic: Off-topic / Are you tired of Dragonforce Through the fire and flames?

I went through a phase back in my high school years where I would just listen to Dragonforce non-stop. I didn’t even find out about them through guitar hero; some kid in one of my IT classes just thought it would be funny to play Through the Fire and Flames at full blast while the teacher buggered off to do something briefly, but I digress…

They were probably the first band that I actually ever bothered to listen to their albums in full, and they sounded cool for a while. Once I exposed myself to other bands and their music I came to realise how repetitive Dragonforce’s songs were. The standard formula is: fast riffs, epicly long and fast solos and good vs evil style lyrics. Only in their most recent album have they really tried to deviate from this style with slower, more melodic songs. I reckon this is for the better, but I still can’t say that they’re my favourite band to date. Even so, they possess incredible skills in both guitar and drum areas and at least they don’t cheat in the vocal department.

Overall, they’re ok to listen to once in a while and in small doses.

I totally agree, but of course this raises the question, can A7X exist without the Rev? Personally, I would love them to stay together, but I think a name change might be in order.

It’s not like he was a particularly irreplaceable drummer. And why would they need to change their name?

the bandwas really close knit, and a lot of the songs depended on his writing and backup vocals. While I love the band, I don’t know wether or not it can truly be A7X without Jimmy.

Hmm, that’s an interesting thought. In most cases, band members come and go for whatever reasons they have. A7X certainly isn’t the first band to have this problem. While I don’t follow them closely, I know that Metallica’s Cliff Burton died in a bus accident whilst on tour. It was a devastating blow to the band, but they managed to find a replacement basist and adapt to the situation. They certainly wouldn’t want to dissapoint the millions of fans around the world who recognised them as one of the greatest metal bands in existence.

As for A7X, I have no clue as to how closely knit they are, but if they have a similar mindset as Metallica when they lost Cliff, their music may yet live on. It’s too early to jump to conclusions until they’ve finished touring with Mike.

I definitely agree with TMA also, its not the same as the rev, but its pretty good. Its just sad that Mike is leaving at the end of this year and might disband. They probably will find a new unknown drummer hopefully though.

If I’m not mistaken, Mike Portnoy was the Rev’s idol, or favourite drummer , or something like that. The boys over at Avenged requested that Portnoy drum in place of the Rev as a tribute to his memory (in addition to Portnoy’s exceptional talent). Mike belongs with Dream Theater, and pretty much always has, so its very unlikely that he will stay long. Regardless, I think it was very generous of him to offer his services and complete the new album that would have otherwise been put on hiatus.

Well said, couldn’t have put it any better myself. These so called ‘Muse’ fans really irritate me and don’t deserve to be within 100 miles of a Muse concert.

Recently though, listening to their newly released song, I’m worried that this may start to be their downfall. I didn’t like the song much at all.

Also, I listened to the new song just yesterday. This is really concerning, I feel that they could be selling themselves out with this song. I blame Stephanie Meyer, BURN THE WITCH!
