You know what would be cooler? Copying this algorithm over to your game. I’m not sure exactly how it works because I haven’t delved into the code, but if you can give it a bunch of samples, and like group them into certain categories, you could generate some good music, but moreso, you could dynamically change the music as the situation changes.
Maybe the pitch gets higher as you get in more danger, or the song speeds up, or you add certain instruments at a certain time etc…
I think dynamically changing music is a great idea. And what made me think about this is this podcast where the musicians of Little Big Planet, Deadspace and Bastion were talking, and the LPB guy I think said that it would be brilliant if done right. And that we would sooner or later have to do so as games get more complex.
