Battlereport With Major Nick Winters
Round 56, 239 Germans killed
From the Diary of Corporal P. Anderson, 2nd platoon
Our CO, Lieutenant Fidler, selected 4 men for a special assignment from regiment. We were to construct an impromptu defense while HQ relocated. Fidler, Kilbuck, Hoke, and Lamb were selected. I volunteered. We cleaned up the M1’s that we were issued, and headed out into the snow. Over the hilltops, Hoke and Fidler saw some Krouts advancing in the distance.
Day 1- We advanced while receiving the forward scouts of the German army. Killed as many of them as we could while advancing as far as we could. After going a couple miles, Fidler decided on a good location to set up our defenses. We radioed our position and asked HQ if they could spare an engineer to help us set up. While the request was being processed, we saw a supply crate get dropped near the edge of our field of view. Fidler drew the short straw, and rushed out to get it. When he got there, a Special Forces Soldier curled up on the edge. We brought him back to camp just in time to meet our new engineer, Sergio. We spent the rest of the day building a bunker to act as a command station.
Day 2- Just as we finished building our first trench, the krouts started to open fire on us. Me, Kilbuck and the SpecForces guy (Hood I think) jumped in and laid down suppressive fire while Sergio and Lamb finished the second trench. We put in a requisition order for a couple mortar teams, when we saw Germans coming at us in larger groups. Lamb was almost killed when Hood lobbed a grenade right in front of him. Lucky we had a medic to fix him up. But Hood is crazy. He screams and yells and throws his grenades like crazy. Dangerous stuff to do on the battlfield.
Day 3- We lost Sergio and our medic. Krouts rolled in a Flak38, and even though Fidler concentrated our fire, their first barrage ripped Sergio to shreds and hit the medic. But he didn’t die. At least not right then. He laid there screaming and flailing until a German Grenade landed right on the edge of the foxhole. I survived both these without a scratch, even though I was right next to Sergio. Fidler put me in the bunker with him, to rest while a new medic arrived. I never even learned the name of the first one HQ sent us. Hood and Kilbuck dug a mortar pit for the two teams we had on staff. Silent types, both kept to the Mortar side of our encampment.
Day 4- Lamb and Hood were in the same trench when an artillery shell hit it. Lamb died instantly, while Hood was sprawled on the dirt floor, wailing in agony. The Doc was stitching me up from a bullet graze when all this happened. Nobody liked Hood, and I was almost content to let him bleed out when Fidler orders Doc to go help him. He could see the way the rest of us were taking deaths in the group. Good ol’ Lieutenant Fidler. Soon after, the Germans tried to overrun us again, but the combo of our mortars and superior weapon skills is really taking a toll. Kilbuck, Hoke, and I got Battlefield Commisios. With me being moved up to Sergeant, and Hoke and Kilbuck promoted to Corporal. We miss Lamb, he was the youngest and liveliest of the 5 original squadmates.
Day 5- This diary now belongs to Corporal James Kilbuck. Seargeant Anderson and Fidler were killed today. They were discussing getting heavier firepower from Division when the Krouts rolled tanks onto our position. They were in the bunker when a Tiger blew it up. The mortar crew were able to destroy the damn things before anyone else was killed, but the men are severely demoralized. Doc especially. He and Fidler were from the same area of New York, and he’s taking the death pretty hard. Loses focus, and freezes up when the Krouts shoot at us. Hood has taken uo leadership of our group, but nobody likes the bastard. Crazy as a Navy-man, and smells like a Marine. Hoke would make a better CO, but he’s shaken from watching two more of the original 5 die today.
Day 6- A german sniper got one of the mortar crews. Hood is getting on my damn case about writing. He says it’s why Anderson is dead.
Day 7-Hitlers sent a Panzer Division to take out our position. That’s the news from HQ. Hood called in a couple of his SpecOps buddies, but nobody trusts a friend of Hood. I swear, I might kill that son of a bitch before the Germans do.
Day 8- We lost the position. Well actually, only me and one of Hoods boys escaped after the Panzers destroyed our defenses. Our last mortar crew took out one of them before being obliterated. Hoke ran into the German troops after giving me a letter and telling me to run. He killed about 4 Krouts before a tank gunner cut him down. Before we got out of the trench, I took care of Hood, and then ran. Doc didn’t get out before a shell punched through him. So I ran 3 miles back to HQ. They have me on medical leave right now, but I hope they send me back out sometime soon.

I was playing the Airborne challenge and, while advancing, one of my guys started to get into a fistfight. After getting hit, he froze. The Germans stopped shooting him, and the fistfight stopped. But I couldn’t move my guy and I couldn’t use sticky grenades to try and suicide.
