Topic: Collaborations / NEEDED: AS3 Coder - Paying gig

Talesworth Arena is in AS2, but my current game (about 90% completed) is in AS3. I can’t even believe how much better AS3 is than AS2. AS3 is absolutely amazing.

It’s a multiplayer flash game with a fantasy feel that plays like a very slow RTS. There will be other games as well, this is the first of many, but doing them solo takes a long time :)

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for an experienced AS3 developer to assist in coding my next game. My first can be found here (Talesworth Arena: Death Watch). I have a small budget to spend on this one. If interested, send me a whisper and be sure to include your email and direct links to games you’ve coded.

Topic: General Gaming / Talesworth Arena Class Guide

Engineer is the most straightforward class, so he appears easiest. However, all the classes are stated as “easiest” in one post or another. For example, Psionic’s wall of atoms is crazy good. And Juggernaut get’s Reflect, in essence giving you another stun against opponents that stun. Also, the baddies have different skills on each class, but they do relatively the same thing (barring the wretch on level 1). For example, one guy will have Remove Flame against Engineer, but Remove Poison against Juggernaut.

SwordPaladin, I’m not going to lie, TechnoTroll is a b#@ch. However, if you keep your eye on his two interrupting skill cooldowns (spank and slap), you can avoid getting one of your best skills interrupted. For example, don’t get caught interrupted while using a slow spell, cuz it will be wasted and on cooldown now. You really need to make sure those spells get off, they’re super powerful. Having him slowed also really helps counter his stun.

Topic: General Gaming / Talesworth Arena Class Guide

In reading the comments, it's clear that many people think it's too hard. Perhaps this class guide will help. --------------------- GENERAL --------------------- 1. Every class has a skill that slows the opponent. This can double the cast time of their skills. Use it when you need him to move slower. And, most importantly, use it a LOT. 2. Make sure you understand all your skills. They often work well with each other. Read tips below to see how. If you're not using all your skills (barring Telepathy), you are not getting the most out of your class. 3. Don't forget to sell, or "Pawn", the artifacts you don't want in the Tavern. Easy money! . --------------------- JUGGERNAUT --------------------- This class is all about taking damage and using it against your opponent. His mechanic is also the most unusual, so it may take a bit to use him properly. However, I can assure you he is a very capable class. . 1. Adrenaline Rush is your friend. You can absorb up to 65% of the damage you are taking while it is active. That's huge. You can also use that Power with a Jab or Uppercut *against* the opponent. Big swing there. 2. Stagger removes buffs off of your opponent. It works great against an opponent that is Enraged (sped up), Healing (it removes heal-over-times), etc. Some monsters rely on their buff to hurt you. 3. Slowing is powerful, especially in certain cases. For example, slowing your opponent before he uses a 4 second cast ties him up in an 8 second cast. Slowing is very strong. Use it. . --------------------- PSIONIC --------------------- 1. Until level 3, things are pretty straight forward, just use Wall of Atoms to avoid the big damage and Psychic Blast to stop what you need to stop (primary healing). 2. Once you get Concentration and Mana Shield, use these together to absorb a lot of damage. This should get you through the times when your psychic blast and wall of atoms are on cooldown. 3. At level 4 you get Brain Chill. Use it. A lot. It should always be used if its available, and often a great spell to start with. 4. At level 5 you get Telepathy, a great spell to help anticipate what the bad guy is gonna do. . --------------------- ENGINEER --------------------- 1. This class is probably the most straightforward. With Groin Kick and Fist on a Spring, you can stop many of the nasty things your opponent tries. 2. Do not underestimate Bionic Arms. Stun, throw down Bionic Arms, and start pummeling with your primary weapon. 3. Keep your opponent slowed with Ground Jacks. This will double the cast time of his skills/spells. . . -Jinx

Topic: Game Programming / [Kongregate API] AS2 Integration

For submitting “flag” oriented challenges, which is correct?

This one:
(Replace – The new value will always overwrite the value on the server, this can be useful for boolean flags such as “Found key in level 1”)

Or:

(1. Please add a “max” stat that’s something like “GameComplete 1” for when your game is finished. This is a no-brainer stat that allows me to add a badge for simply completing your game.)

They both seem to accomplish the goal, but which is more correct?

I’m looking for some good RPG music, the kind you would hear as you walk through an old medieval village. Oh, also, free is good :) Anyone have any suggestions?

Topic: Technical Support / Uploading - Preview won't load

Hey everyone,

I have been trying to upload a game. All the data seems to go in okay, but the preview screen does nothing. The big grey box stays big and gray, but no game loads. I’ve waited over an hour, guessing maybe the bandwidth was low for testing games, but no luck.

Any ideas? It didn’t complain about any errors when I uploaded it and all the files seem to be there.
