Topic: Collaborations / Idea for a simple poll flash

Well the flash is done, and it works, but i cant get it uploaded to kongregate because i cant fucking get this policy file crap to work. If some1 can give me STEP by STEP directions that would be the most awesome thing ever.

Well im starting work on the client finally yay. if anyone wants to try the server just look below. You’ll have to work with your own client tho.

IP: 24.192.88.157

Port: 8081

Protocol: When you answer a question, choose from one of the choices (choices should be obvoius) and prepend it with “a;” (without the quotes). Edit: don’t chose an option labeled ‘blank’ its a placeholder cause i made it so that theres always 10 choices.

Topic: Collaborations / Idea for a simple poll flash

Jon0513: wow i didnt realize there was such a thing so thanks. And i still fell i need to contribute cause glass booth isnt flash, and its not exactly about comparing your political ideaology (i cant spell of course) with others.

OuTrIgHtChAoS: yea alot of ppl seem to get a misconception too. all i need is a very simple client that is just out of my reach right now (well actually im kinda too lazy but i found a cooler way to say it). But thanks anyway.

Right now the server is kinda done, but its really klunky. And unless im a salesperson (which im not) my server runs with 2x the amount of memory it really needs. The best option for me is to see a bunch of flash tuts online and ill get it eventually.

Also, i was thinking of adding a question, like the party affilation, that would ask the user what subculture they identify with but i couldnt come up with a good list of them. I came up with: punk, goth, otherkin, hacker, furre. i determined theres really no way to comprehend all these subcultures so im not gonna ask that question.

Topic: Collaborations / Idea for a simple poll flash

In my super lengthy post of lengthyness i have said that im mainly just coming up with an idea but if someone wants to make the client then that would be super. WOOT! I came up with 32-34 questions (depending on wht i do with the questions later)

EDIT: the chart i want to use is the Nolan chart.

my view on the nolan chart: In america i think it most accurately represents the political view of most ppl and has a clear spot for the 1d politcal spectrum. it does have flaws but the only better way is to have a billon dimension chart, which we could do but thats why we make charts: to describe a set of positions in relation to each other in different dimensions to make it easy for us to make a GENERALIZATION.

i didnt mention: i had already drafted this on my computer, here i included all the revisions of my draft. EDIT marks where i have modified after i pasted my draft onto kongregate. I could always make this poll into a php project but then you ppl wouln’t know about it.

Topic: Collaborations / Idea for a simple poll flash

With the election coming up in a few months i got interested in politics a little so i was thinking of a flash that would serve as an unoffical political poll. first the users would be asked what their political party affiliation is, possible choices im thinking of are (chrono order): Democratic Party, Republican Party, Libertarian Party, Constitution Party, Green Party, Other, No affiliation. Then, a series of 30 or so questions in random order. The users will be asked how much they agree with the statement on a scale of 1-5. The results to these questions along with the party affiliation will be sent to a server who will store this info without any id. After the questions the server will tell the user the cordinates of where they fall on a political grid, as well as the average of all the people in each party i listed before, and the average of all the people who took the poll.

DRAFT 2: The client tells the server if the user is a kongregate user so that the server will also plot the averages of all the kongregate users so we can see how that differs from all the people who take this poll. I wanted to add this cause i was thinking of putting this flash other places too.

DRAFT 3: I was thinking if i should have this poll be for non-USA users but i decided not to mainly because i dont think i (or anyone else) could make questions or a quiz that covers the current political situations of the entire world. this will make it easier for me yay!

DRAFT 4: I figured out how this will work. The client will connect to server. then there will be this one frame in flash that will have 10 (EDIT: was orignally 5 but i changed it due to the party affiliation question), 2 rows of 5. The client will send the user’s response to the previous question and the server will send the next one in a format like this: question;answer1;answer2;answer3… (the semicolon is some kinda separator). For the 30 questions the answers will all be 1,2,3,4, and 5 but this makes the flash more flexible. For the party question the five partives will be on top row and ‘other’ and ‘none’ will be centered on bottom.

DRAFT 5: IP address will be recorded to prevent people taking this multiple times. (or building robots). The thing about draft 4 about the server sending the questions will make security better and make the client easier to make and i can change the questions (if i spell something wrong) anytime.

DRAFT 6: I started to hypotothize a dynamic weight system for each question but this woul be too hard to make a accurate formula for, especially with the time variable.

EDIT (IMPORTANT): I forgot to mention, the server will be coded by me cause i make alot of servers. Now this is were my sorta-point of this thread is: I just started to learn flash. I bet with time i can make this socket thing work out but again theres this time thing. I’m too impatient to do this sort of thing as i just like to stick to what i know already. I’m not nesicaly asking anyone for help but if they would like to help me with the flash client let me know. If you want to work on the client all i want is: assurance that if i do the server you do the client. The specs for the client are above but in summary they are: one frame where the user is asked questions and given 10 possible answers. the questions and answers come from my computer. if the possible answer in null then the radio button is not displayed. there is a button that the user clicks on and the response is sent back to the server and it replies with the next question. If this reply has the ID of the poll results then the client goes to the next frame where is a grid and a fixed (probably) amount of points is ploted (probably goes something like label1,x1,y1,label2,x2,y2…). If you don’t want to help i’d really like comments and suggestions, and questions that can rasie comments and sugestions).

DRAFT 7: There will be multiple versions of the same question. This will also of course be done on the server.

Topic: Technical Support / Kong chat

In the chat today we were discussing something about a kong chat application and i said i had thought that it was using the jabber protocol but Genx told me it uses Rygard, which i never heard of before. I looked up Rygard on google but couldn’t find anything. Whats this Rygard protocol? Also, I was about to post a message i got from kong chat to show eveyone what it looked like but it ate all the code :(

Topic: Kongregate / Suggestions

Well the whole point of my post was anti-conservative. But im saying that if tons of ppl make shit badges that you will achieve for making it to the main menu of the game, then their badges would be worth 0 or 1 point. I still love my idea. Theres still a few problems i need to adress: what happens when a user makes a badge. the badge, according to my first post would be worth alot since nobody has it. lets say some1 made a shit game with a badge that is given after 1 second. here are soultions, the best would probably be a combination of them. 1) Limit the max points a badge can have accoring to tha rank of the user and the rating of the game and how many ppl have played the game 2) badges give out no points the first, say 10 ppl earn it. 3) as the score would change the user’s points sould change too. if something like solution 2 is in place then this should not change ppls score dramatically. 4) the number of badges you have for each game you made is limited by your rank and how many badges you have. Again, this poses alot of work for kong to come up with a complex formula to do this but i think it would turn out great.

Topic: Kongregate / Suggestions

This suggestion may sound really stupid but here it goes anyway. I still really like the idea of being able to make your own badges, have as many as you want and make them any time you want for doing whatever you want. I can’t believe im saying this but with winboze’s ybox you can have as many badges as you like and have them give out as many points as you want (as long as its reasonable) and as long as you pay the $250 or so (i dont really know its somewhere around here). If you thought i was serious about all that LOL – i am. I’m suggesting that you let devs do that but they wouldn’t control how many points the badge gives out, that would be regulated by some kind of complex formula that is generally effected by # of ppl who have the badge / # of ppl who played the game, the rating of the game, how many badges there are, and probably some other stuff too maybe. Well, this is the place to put suggestions no matter how stupid they are. Lots of ideas start out as stupid sugesstions anyway.

Topic: Technical Support / Getting badges

darn. Well i saw the kong chat game or whatever its called and from that i assumed that there was no possible way that the admins make badges for your game, but then it someone else suggested to me that it was an early game so the admins gave lots of games badges because thats all there was on kongregate.

the button is fairly well hidden and you need to execute the click function on it. You’ll know when you clicked it.

Any idea on how to get badges for my game? I was thinking of two easy badges for my game: 1)get 122 points and 2)find the hidden button. do i need to contact an admin?
