I haven’t played that much the past few months. Logged in the day ninja was released by chance, got 3 stars on my first one. Coveted my treasure map because I didn’t have any pots or decent eq to run it. Stopped playing after the ninja died. Started again today. Built up some pots, sold some old eq, and rolled 3 necros. Best one got invested in, third got deleted. Took me forever to buy some decent eq for him.

Feeling fresh and ready for action, I decided to tackle the treasure room thinking, “I’m cautious enough, I can overcome any dungeon solo as long as it doesn’t have some bitch beast that heals the boss”.

Let me say this, if you are going to build a dungeon, and fill it full of gold and treasure chest, make it accessible. The D&D thief in me panics at the sight of it when I can’t even stand on top of it. I ended up dying caught in a maze of treasure, a couple of bandits, with a boulder trap at my back.

How I felt, and something we can no longer say in game, “Shit!”

I blame merch sites. The possibility of real money is too great to not dupe. I have sold a few tomb keys, so I can’t shake my finger too hard, but the ability to just buy your way to, “greatness” almost turned me off of this game. I love that I can still spot a newbie even with tops because he is spamming trades or guild invites to me. While duping has allowed easy access to otherwise super rare or super expensive items, someone has/is made/making a profit from this.

What gets me, and always will, are the people that have always used the cheat codes, bought game genie, buy their gear. Why “cheat”? I dig being able to kill the strongest shit in the game, it’s cool. But why skip the steps it takes? What fun is there know you have 20 kinds of this and 30 kinds of that knowing that your character will be safe to make the all time board. This is a very fun game with very dire consequences. Where is the fun if you ignore the consequence. How great can game be when you activate, “god mode”?

None. If you nullify the challenge, then why play?

Because you are a dick. The fake economy will perk up, drop, perk again. Not what we knew, but it will raise none the less. It still will kill off those with purchased strength, those who spends nights studying codes instead of gods, us who think, “If I can just dodge this last bul… damn it man. Fuck, my loot!”. This is Realm of the Mad God, and we are food. We will suffer, and die at the hands of the one true God.

One poor night on a new wizard, I decided to beg by putting on a show. Every minute or 2 (I kept track and announced) I would do, “Show Time!” I turned on auto-fire, spun around in a circle while bursting my spell. Then announce, “Donations accepted, thank you folks!” “Showtime in 2 minutes!”

I ended up getting a Necro, Magus, Dsphere, and a Para Def. Just goes to show, if you are gonna beg, work for it ;)
