We care a lot more about whether games are fun than we do about whether they’re promoting another company or website. We’re happy to feature games like Newgrounds Rumble and games developed/sponsored by other portals if they’re games that Kongregate players rate highly.

Regarding Epic Battle Fantasy 4 on Steam greenlight, I’ve already told Matt Roszak that he was free to promote the Steam version of the game within Epic Battle Fantasy 4 on Kongregate, which is what he’s currently doing. This is probably the most effective promotion that can be done.

Hi everyone! I’m speaking at GDC this year about designing achievements.

I want to hear from you guys what the worst badges on Kongregate are. The most frustrating, least fun, and in general just the ones that made you lower your opinion of a game the most. Tell me the badges that just shouldn’t have been added to the site at all.

And I guess your favorite ones too, but that’s less interesting.

Correct. I actually do shoot for shorter/easier during the week and longer/harder for the weekend, though I’ll admit that yesterday’s was still too long and managed to slip by.

If there’s another badge that you feel was unreasonably long for completion within a single day, let me know and I’ll take this into consideration.

It’s always fun when players visit our office. They come in expecting Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, only to be greeted with boring people in a normal office. They exude so much disappointment that people on other floors must sense it.

You chose the winner as someone who had a “nice variety” of games instead of one with an actual theme?

Well, the established theme was that the badges all require completing achievements within the games themselves, and AtomicPineapple followed this theme.

The badges weren’t thrown together randomly; AtomicPineapple actually wrote up an explanation for his inclusion of each one (he’s free to share this if he wants), and we agreed with his reasoning.

Hey everyone,

I’m a bit late to this thread but I just wanted to announce that a winner has been picked and the quest will be going up tomorrow! Congratulations to AtomicPineapple for designing our favorite quest submission. It wasn’t easy nailing down a winner (over 600 submissions!), but we really liked the variety and general selection for AtomicPineapple’s quest, which will feature Upgrade Complete, Achievement Unlocked, Burrito Bison, Insectonator, Mini Tower Defense, Mushroom Madness 3, Papa’s Freezeria, Icy Fishes, and Ultimate Assassin 3: Level Pack.

Also, big honorable mentions to Friz, Hyppy, and Precarious for their creative submissions that made the decision extra difficult. Friz’s submission went extra meta by selecting games that have in-game rewards for completing the Kongregate badge criteria, Hyppy made a quest out of badges that all require 5 of something, and Precarious selected games that spell out “Kongrats” (or it would, if we were able to reorder badges in a quest manually).

There were many other great submissions as well, and we’d like to thank everyone who participated. Tomorrow the fun will really begin!

Topic: Kongregate / "Decision": First medium badge glitch

I tested this out before adding the badge, and it was retroactively reporting the stat for the dead boss for me. That’s actually how I earned it — if you check my profile, I have all 4 badges, and I didn’t add any badges until I personally had 100% progress. So everything should be retroactive.

Is anyone else having problems? If so, Blackdrazon’s idea sounds pretty good.

Unless this happens fairly often, it was unfair treatment.

To update what rawismojo said, I emailed the developers of both Burrito Bison and Memohuntress earlier this week, and both have updated their APIs, so badges should be coming soon.

Using Memohuntress as an example against us is especially unfair, as a side note. That game came out of judgment with a pretty low rating, I put it in Hot New Games anyway, the rating went up, then I emailed the developer to request the API so I could add badges to it. Not exactly unfavorable treatment.

Caesary is gone and those badges will probably never be earnable again. :( Sorry!

DTD 1.5 goes down regularly; we’ve emailed the developer about it but haven’t gotten a response yet this time.

Platform Racing 2 directs people to the Carina server right in one of the badge descriptions, but I can add it to the others as well. Can anyone confirm that the Carina server is required for all 4 badges, or just a few?

Sonny is an old glitch that Krin is aware of but I guess hasn’t been able to fix. :(

Rotazion is such an old game that realistically it probably won’t be fixed, but the glitch is in people’s favor anyway.

Streamline is actually working as intended. You used to be able to right-click to become invincible and cheat.

I wasn’t aware of a few of the others; I’ll email the developers about them. To everyone else, please post any more that you’re aware of.

We know it’s kind of weird to do this, but Hot New Games is the only editorial part of the front page where we can put games that don’t have badges, so when we want to promote an older game it’s the only option.

Regarding the original post, this badge was definitely on the longer/more difficult end of what’s considered appropriate for badge of the day, and your criticism is noted.

If it’s any consolation, most staff members personally oppose SOPA, but Kongregate as a website is generally apolitical — much more so than Google, Wikipedia and especially Reddit.
