Topic: Battle Dawn / Update 21-04-2013

Hi Everyone,
Version 18.8.10 – Date 21.4.2013

The update contains the following changes:
1. Fixed adding spaces after the new name in the name change boost.
2. When you reset world the system will show to player’s countdown of 24 hours and after the countdown finished the system will auto enable the ticks.
3. Alliance leader will have option to open his alliance for new recruits or to close it.

  • The default for new alliance is that the alliance is open.
  • Only this time every existing alliance is closed to recruit and the leader need to open it.
  • Alliances that open players can auto join in them.
    4. Fixed issue that agent actions cost energy no matter if they fail or not.
    5. Fixed events wont auto open after jam actions.

Topic: Battle Dawn / Summer event ideas?

Summer is approaching, which means for a lot of you (and me), exams/school/college will be over, and we can all collectively put a little more time into the game.

For you guys, that presumably means more competitive rounds. For me, that means that I think that this means the time is ripe for some special events.

As such, this is an ideas thread for special events – shoot out ideas, and I’ll mix and match thee most viable/popular ones into a string of summer events.

As usual – please don’t suggest non-booster rounds – I do not have the power to make this happen.

As a general rule, no ideas that will distort the hall of fame. That means no 500 relics, millions of crystals, havoc resources, etc. Player scores must remain at a normal level, as not to ruin people’s efforts in the HoF so far by wiping them out with an unbalanced era.

I’m also open to tick speed changes, alliance size tweaks, etcetera.

Topic: Battle Dawn / Get rid of second place tokens

Spoke to the other admins and they told me a method for disabling the auto-tokens. The next era on each world will be either player rank based prizes (players ranked 1-15 get tokens, or something similar) or rank 1 alliance prizes only.

I agree completed. Before we updated, I was able to run events where only the top alliance got rewarded, but since the updates, the 2k/1.5k/1k prize is automated. I’ll ask our devs about the possibility of disabling it on kong, as it’s clearly not as appropriate here as it is on .com

Topic: Battle Dawn / This Update sucks

I’d just like to point out that world population has increased by almost 4x since we started updating.

Oh, and armour isn’t useless. It still fills thee exact same purpose it always did. I’ve yet to see anybody who is playing without it :S

We have certain guideline speeds that we operate within. I’ll have to get special pemrission to run a 12.

12 ticks won’t be included on the current polls, but if/when I get permission, I’ll run a poll for it.

I don’t see what 100 relics adds to the era though. I’ll put it on the ‘potential special event ideas’ shelf.

Topic: Battle Dawn / UNBAN ME

“purchasing issues” and “you were banned because an admin or moderator on Kongregate found you acting in violation of our behavior guidelines” are not bans I have ever (ever) made. Can you screenshot the ban screen and post it/pm it to me so I can take a look? It’s entirely possible (and likely) that it was knog that banned you, not me. They handle all purchases, so any issues would be with them, not us.

I’d also point out that ‘purchasing issues’ almost certainly means there was something wrong with your method of payment – a credit card that got cancelled, a paypal account that got closed, etc.

Topic: Battle Dawn / Battledawn Updated!

Spies:
You still have your old spy ship, except now it only costs 25E and 1 worker. Your spy ship can move anywhere on the map just like it used to be able to. Except now it only has two functions: adding spy protection to allied targets for 20E and planting agents.

Agents are what do the actuall covert operation now, instead of the main spy ship. You can plant an agent for 20E and it will cost 1 worker upkeep. Infiltration still works the same, so does pulling covert ops. You can only plant one agent on each target, your alliance members can plant one more per person on the same target. You cannot plant an agent on your own colony.

Agents can be disbanded in Orders menu > Agents > [click] [X]

Lockdown:
Outposts now have 1 tick lockdown immunities. Meaning that any outpost that you capture that has 1 control tick cannot be locked down. It can be locked down from 2 control ticks and onwards. This does not affect any other spy operation.

Radiation:
When nukes hit a target, there will now be something called radiation as well. An outpost can have 6-12 ticks of radiation per nuke, a colony can have 3-6 ticks of radiation per nuke. Relics are immune to radiation. Radiation stacks, so if an op has been hit by 2 nukes it can have 12-24 ticks of radiation. Max stacked radiation is 72. Everyone in the world can see the radiation.

For every tick that a unit spends on a location with radiation, it will lose 1HP. Radiation WILL NOT kill your units. The lowest your unit can get to from radiation is 1HP.

Structures:
You now need level 3 metal, level 3 oil, and level 3 farm in order to attack.

Colony:
You now get a crystal when you reach 30 power.

Units:
Damage units have been buffed. Damage units have more damage than they did before. Nothing else has been changed.

Units gain experience from killing other units and surviving.

Achievements:
You now get the relic and 10 relic achievement at the end of an era (when the world enters havoc).

Trading:
Boosted resources cannot be sent to other players.

Markers:
Anyone in your alliance can place a marker on the map with a symbol, name, description and priority. Only ministers and leader can delete them. They can be toggled.

Ministers:
Ministers now have powers of marking alliances and renaming the alliance, depending on the role.

Damage units:
Damage units now deal 7 damage per round, rather than 6

This seems like a really bad distortion of the current trading system. Also, anything that allows res to be sent to people outside of yuor alliance is immediately incredibly vulnerable to resource farming, on an absolutely massive scale (Those who rememeber the bounty system will understand what I mean)

Kongregate, to my knowledge, isn’t built to be able to handle more than 6 ticks per hour. That being the case, it’s not possible (the game timer goes all screwy and ticks don’t roll when they’re supposed to)

Topic: Battle Dawn / Special Idea for the next Mars Era

My two cents:

On 12 man alliance:
Kongregate’s piopulation is so low that any alliance size over 6 causes at the MOST two competent teams (maybe not even that) to emerge. The resulting round is not competetive, and thus rarely any fun.

On more relics/crystals:
I see this a lot, people ask me to release dozens of relics or hundreds of crystals or thousands of resources. The thing here is, it won’t actually add anything – if I add a 0 to every variable ingame then it won’t change anything – if I released 100 relics and had every colony get 10 crystals instea dof one and increased resource production by 10x etc then all I’ve done is add some extra zeroes to the final score, I haven’t made the round any more interesting or exciting. Furthermore, the round can’t even be accurately comapred to other rounds because the warped score makes this impossible.
What makes the game interesting is innovative new gameplay styles, not just adding more of what already exists. It needs more substance than that.

On prizes:
You’re asking me to give out a total of 112,250 prize tokens for a single era. Just as a means of comparison, that is more prize tokens than I think I’ve given out in my entire time as admin, and I’ve run 24 eras so far. It’s far, far too many.

Topic: Battle Dawn / Admin Tom - Lazy or Corrupt?

I don’t ban based on claims made by player X against player Y. When I get sent accusations, I check if there is any truth to them. If there is, and it requires action, I act.

If soembody reports somethnig to me that never actually happened, then I take no action.

As such, I must wonder what happened to make you think this is not the case? If you throw me some details, I’ll gladly post everythnig related to whichever case this is – Before Mars resets would be a bonus, so I can access all message exchanges from this era.

Oh snap, I do also owe you guys a Journey song. I’ll deliver when I’m awake during daylight hours, it’s currently 5am here and I doubt my housemates would appreciate me singing.

Essentially, a select set of players can report others for false activities and get them banned. That is well beyond the scope of the game, using the admin to influence eras. Tom doesn’t even pretend to look into them, just bans people without proper cause. Its disgraceful at best.

So I’ve now managed to ascertain the case you’re talking about. Last era on Earth, a player built about two dozen outposts on Greenland and you took them. There was a lot of outpost farming going on at the time and this looked like a textbook example (conquered, allianceless player make s a bunch of outposts in an odd location and a higher ranked player spams them immediately)

As you explained to me, the player had just left your alliance, and it wasn’t an outpost farming. Over the coming hours, many memebrs of NA also built large clusters of outposts and started upgrading them to nukes (presumably an NA defensive strategy) and it became apparant to me that this player had done exactly the same thing, but had left NA immediately afterwards. As such, I reverted your ban. You have my apologies for the error.

I do feel I need to make clear though – I didn’t ban you because of who reported it, I banned you because it did look exactly like an outpost farming operation looks – Sometimes innocent players end up in very suspicious looking circumstances and things like this happen, most often it’s siblings playing together in the same hosue who forget to inform me (as such, this often look a lot like multi accounting)

Alas, the era had some good and some bad, lessons have been learned and will be carrief forward when planning future events =]
