Topic: Game Programming / In Search of he Perfect FREE Developer Console

Actually, you guys are wrong in your use of the word ‘console’

It’s pretty much just another name for command line, probably just used by Microsoft to differentiate it from the command prompt.

Just looking on my computer I have an ironPython console and an ironRuby console. According to him he’s done BASIC which probably follows the same trend…

Topic: Game Programming / Game Design is an Art

I know it may be irrelevant by now, but I recommend checking out Extra Credits if you’re interested in the whole ‘games as art’ thing, they cover it pretty often.

Topic: Off-topic / Dragonforce's shortest song O_o

My old favorite song (Sapphire by Redemption) is 16 minutes long

Longest I’ve listened to… 78 minutes (or something close to that…)
– The Hunt by Fauna
Longest I’ve listened to more than 3 times… 71:11
– Cybion by Kalisia

Blood Red Skies by Judas Priest… I dunno who did this, but it’s terrible and ruins the song.

Lol, I remember when Billy Talent was big here in Canada (I was NOT a fan of them), but they’ve kinda shrunk into obscurity in the last few years.

Play them, Make (but don’t really post) them, and this should be featured in all pause menus.

Topic: The Arts / Fear Itself

The tune itself is good, I found that the chimes in the front seemed a bit obnoxious for some reason, I’d like to hear it with them slightly quieter.

I’d also recommend that you possibly vary it up a bit more as it goes on, it seemed to get a bit repetitive.

Topic: The Arts / My Orchestral Piece

Good game-style song overall, and now are my critiques (Keep in mind that I know absolutely nothing about music writing/terms)

Parts of it sound great, in other parts I find that the front instrument sounds a bit ‘choppy’ if that makes any sense…

(good luck understanding what i mean for the next bit…)
Also, i feel that the beginning sounds good, but has a bit of a digital style ‘drone’ that I don’t feel fits very well.

Topic: Off-topic / Symphonic/Power Metal

Here’s my list, ignoring some of the already mentioned bands like Kamelot & Symphony X

It’s all mostly pure power/symphonic metal… If you like a bit more prog mixed in I could throw you another list, do make sure to check out the capitalized ones…

- SERENITY
- ANGRA
- MASTERPLAN (album Aeronautics is amazing)
- Nocturnal Rites
- Avantasia
- Saint Deamon
- Dream Evil
- Falconer (lol, worth a laugh)
- Axenstar (mainly the song “The burning”)

Good games can be made in game maker, but most people using that tool are more interested in art or level design then the programming itself

How is that even labeled as any form of metal?

Their first few albums were pretty much thrash metal, and their last few have a mix of sings like that and folk with metal influences.

if it has some fame, then that doesn’t put it under the ‘no fame whatsoever.’ the bands i’m talking about are the ones who never even get close to getting close to cracking the charts.

Where would you find out if this band even came close to cracking the charts..? Not on their wikipedia page…

Metallica’s first album is speed/thrash metal, the second third and fourth are thrash, all the rest up to death magnetic are hard rock. (I have no idea what the hell St Anger is…)

Metallica is known for being a thrash band because all their good albums are thrash

get out, you obviously haven’t listened to sympathy for the devil. the beatles were the most popular classic rock band anyways

besides that, op is completely wrong. the bands that have no fame whatsoever are the ones that suck the most.

edit: lol, saw bon jovi in his top 10 artists. :(

W.E.T… Pretty much no fame whatsoever, kicks the asses of most other rock bands I’ve heard.

Here is another good song by them.

I’ve heard a song or two from them, nothing I like enough to put on an mp3 player (they seem to have that ‘generic’ style that pops up in a lot of lower tier power/prog bands)

Bleh, imo Beyond Twilight is the ONLY way to go wrong with Jorn Lande (Especially when compared to other stuff like the song Black in the Burn)

Conceptions last album is pretty good, the earlier ones are too sub-par to Roys work on Kamelot to be enjoyable

Roy Khan would have to be one of my favorite singers, along with Russel Allen, Jorn Lande, Rob Halford, Ray Alder, and whoever it is who sings for Seventh Wonder.
