Thanks Wiggs! I knew those number sounded much more ridiculous in my head.

>>> Jumping in just for fun – do you mainland on your level?
Absolutely! Even though coins don’t matter as much, coin efficiency is still high priority to me (efficiency in general is my main goal, so taking a coin hit is unacceptable for me). The rate of leveling becomes extremely slow anyways when you’re all by yourself, so I grab all the experience I can get.

Even though leveling can have adverse effects, you don’t want to become extremist to a point where you want to completely halt leveling – you still want to slowly be able to reach higher level content.

>>> Are you planning on restatting?
Not if I keep continuing to mainland. I did restat to 600 CON briefly so that I could tank Behemoth and Deumos. Sadly, it was not enough CON to tank Mormo. Afterwards, I restatted to even stats to maintain pill efficiency.

It’s much more efficient to farm pills if your stats are even, and the higher your stats are the more you will benefit from the even stats.
For example’s sake, let’s say that increasing a stat costs 3 LP * your current stat value. Let’s say you can either have your stats at 1200, 1200, 1200, 1200 or 300, 300, 1600, 1600.

Suppose you get one of each pill. For 1200/1200/1200/1200 your character would effectively gain 3 * 1200 * 4 = 14,400 LP.
For 300/300/1600/1600 your character would only gain 300 * 3 * 2 + 1600 * 3 * 2 = 11,400 LP.
I’m doing all this math in my head so it could be wrong. But having even stats is much more beneficial for character growth.

By the way, the cost of a restat is NOTHING for a veteran mainlander. You will probably get more gems than you can handle if you’re using them wisely.

Yeah, the downside is not helping my guild. I will admit that I’m a terrible guild mate because I don’t really help – that’s partly why I ran off on my own. If you’re more of a team player, there’s nothing wrong with bossing with your guild. I respect that.

Also, mainlanding won’t seem very effective at first. Possessed bosses will be difficult at first, but they will get easier and easier.
Mainlanding is a huge coin sink. It gets better at level 91 – the possessed bosses will drop 150% the amount of coins the lower level possessed bosses do.

My statistics come from all of the weird crazy things I do. This includes:
1.) Using enchant potions to enchant alien gear so that I can get a mystery box in 10 enchants.
2.) Each Arena pass is equivalent to two boxes because I can easily handle Frozen Pride and Princess Anithea. Arena passes are near useless in the beginning, but as you get stronger you’ll learn to love them.
3.) Timing arena passes from treasure chests so that I get 3 passes a day.

Some other small things you can do:
1.) Be patient. Mainland is a coin drain. As tempted as you are to use gems, don’t.
2.) Never buy a heroic or genius. Why buy one when you can hunt one for free?
3.) Only play on weekends. Weekday coin return sucks.
4.) Got spare gems? Energy refills are more efficient than buying boxes. Try refraining from using gems on energy until you get all the badges that you can. Waiting until you have the Positron ring makes a huge difference.

Say you have 100 energy (and you currently use an orc ring) and you have 1,200 gems. You can buy 100 energy refills which will give you 10,000 energy to use.

If you get 5 more badges… you’ll have 110 energy for a total of 11,000 energy.
If you get the positron ring, that’s an extra 50 energy to your maximum. You gems are “worth” a lot more because now your gem refills will get you a grand total of 16,000 energy.

A badge will raise your maximum energy by 2. It may not seem like much, but 100 energy refills will get you an extra 200 energy. Little things will add up.

I’m clearly overanalyzing, so don’t take everything I say too seriously.

I only mainland, so I normally don’t fight bosses aside from Arena Passes. The amount of attention needed is fairly minimal. When I’m streaming a TV show on the side, I can see what mod I run into in the corner of my eye. If it’s a possessed boss or if an item drops – I’ll know. Physically watching a TV would make things more difficult though.

That’s a very valid question, mclewis. I’m glad you asked it. It’ll give me an opportunity for a few things:

1.) Attempt to explain my motives (This will probably turn into a rant, so I apologize in advance). My actions can be quite strange when viewed by most other players. I don’t expect everyone to agree with them, nor am I trying to disrespect other people’s motives towards the game.

2.) Preach about mainland’s awesomeness.

To answer all your questions directly:

>>> Do you honestly just sit in whatever town has your level and simply do those pathetic mobs all day?
Yup.

>>> I hope you dont take this as a jab at you, but dont you want to be challenged a little more?
I don’t see fighting bosses as a challenge, I actually consider it a waste of resources (again, not meant to offend anyone, this is just my opinion.) There’s no difference between pressing “r, s, s, space” repeatedly against mainland mobs and pressing “Talisman, s, s (repeatedly until death), space (upon death)”. The two are the same to me.

I see the challenge in a different perspective. Instead of “I should level up to fight ‘stronger’ bosses!”, I prefer “How can I defeat this boss more efficiently?”. The answer to that is farming pills. The more pills I farm, the easier the boss will get. However, according to that logic, I should continue farming pills indefinitely and never fight bosses – which is the current state I’ve gotten myself into.

Progress. What does this word mean in the context of this game? For most people, it means leveling up, getting better equipment, getting access to areas that they previously couldn’t. I see everything differently, especially after hitting level 98. After I hit level 98, what I noticed was a 30% decrease in my damage (seriously, what the hell). This is just how the mechanics have been set up. I think this is idiotic. What’s the point of leveling when you’re really moving backwards? New equipment is nice, but I don’t really need it. I could spend trillions buying a shiny new weapon… or I could use those trillions of coins to farm pills. Mist capping on mainland gets me (on average) around 50 gems, +80/16 enchants on a weapon, and 20 pills per day, which will only cost me around 800 billion coins.

I’m not really sure how I was able to mist cap on a daily basis (event days only!), now that I look back. With the introduction of King of Duels, I haven’t been playing much. Recent expansions have offered little to nothing for mainlanders, so things do get stale and boring.

Bossing. The mechanics, in my opinion, aren’t enjoyable. When I first went to Isendel, it was fun because everyone was dying and doing tiny amounts of damage to a boss and I didn’t know any better. After Neocorn King came Crystal Lord, then Elderonoak. But the more familiar I became with the mechanics the more I thought that this was an utter waste of energy. Why throw thirty energy to get 10% of a boss when I can wait until I’m stronger and take out the entire boss at the cost of 1 energy? And when you can finally feel satisfaction from utterly destroying a boss, the game decides to give you bosses like Forts, Mystics and Alien Motherships, which kill you instantly. Personally, I’m sick of these mechanics as it doesn’t give me a sense of progress.

So far, the game has been designed in a way which rewards waiting. The longer I wait, the easier things get. Better allies come out, more tiers of equipment show up on the market, even waiting until you’re higher level to fight a boss will save you a lot of trouble. The reward mechanics are terrible too. I could spend thousands upon thousands of energy hunting Hell bosses, and I’ll probably end up with a +3 power staff in the end. I’d rather just bide my time and buy it off the market. Bossing just isn’t worth it for me.

>>> Compete against other dream world players?
Personally, I hate competition. Competition can be stressful and can make enemies. The PvP mechanics are incredibly dumb and are mostly driven by luck. I would much rather prefer being the quiet person on the side that nobody cares about. In fact, one of the reasons I continue to play Dream World is because the PvP mechanics are minimal. It’s also one of the best free player friendly games on Kongregate.

>>> How many stats and mainland dredging is enough before you try and take on the harder parts?
I tried the harder parts that I meet the level requirements for, and I don’t like it.

>>> One of the most rewarding parts of this game is the chat and working together with other people for a common goal, do you miss that being all by yourself?
I do miss chat to some extent, but I also don’t like to talk very much. Every time I talk about the game it turns into a rant, so I now try to avoid spreading any negative energy in the chat room by not talking because it takes away from other people’s game experience.

Working together was pretty fun when I was lower level, but it was fun because my guild and I were all equally weak. The higher level you go the more the stats can differ between player to player (I admit that’s my fault). Some players progress at different paces, and that can take away from my experience from the game (I hate waiting :( ). On mainland, I can progress at my own pace, I can stop playing whenever I want, and I can continue playing whenever I want. I don’t have to deal with waiting for people to set diplomacy when I want to hit a mystic or waiting for people to get 5% on a fort or 10% on a boss.

I’m not against working with other players or anything, I just don’t enjoy the collaboration mechanics that the game has in place. Ideally, it would be nice to have a small group of people that all go at the same pace, but finding such a group is extremely difficult and isn’t worth the effort.

I’ll be glad to answer any follow up questions.

Tip # 28 This game is extremely grindy. Fingers will be hurt if you play too hard. For best results, watch a TV show or listen to music while playing Dream World on the side – the rest will be taken care of by muscle memory.

Tip # 16: The chances of finding a four star card is said to be 1 in 5000 energy. This is the only definitive information that has been released on card drop rates.

Good luck on hunting those five, six, and sever star cards!

Tip # 15: Super Bonus Weekends will automatically go into effect at 12:00 AM server time on Fridays. Special events (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.) must be activated by the developers manually and don’t usually get activated until around 1:00 AM to 2:00 AM server time.

Developers usually like to start the event a day early, so save your energy when possible to maximize experience and coin efficiency.

Tip # 14: If you’re out of things to enchant (seriously, why would you even bother enchanting your armor and ring to 900?), use enchants on gear that you obtain from regularly using your energy (star gear, chance quest gear, or the bombardment of never-ending crap from mystery boxes) before selling them to the vendor. 10 enchants will complete the Enhancing Items quest, netting you a mystery box and a decent chunk of experience.

Enchants are temporary, but pills are forever.

Tip # 11: Want to maximize your chances at a Princess Anithea (7 stars) card? These can only be obtained through fighting in the Monster Arena. There are two ways to obtain an Arena Pass:

1.) 5% chance from a Mystery Box (stated in the Official Announcements thread).
2.) 2% from a treasure chest once every 8 hours (stated in the Official Announcements thread), This can be interpreted a few different ways. What exactly does this mean?

All of this information is based on observations and has not been officially confirmed.
Each server day is split into three “sections”. The first section is from 00:00 to 07:59:59, the second 08:00 to 15:59:59, and the third 16:00 to 23:59:59. For each section, you can potentially obtain one arena pass. This means that it’s possible to find an Arena Pass at 07:59 and another one at 08:01, after which you will need to wait until 16:00 to be able to obtain the third arena third pass.

Happy hunting!

Tip # 10: Having the “Lost Puppy” quest somehow increases your puzzle box encounter rate by ~30% (personal observation). This will considerably decrease your chances at encountering Guardian of Dreams or Possessed Bosses. Therefore, do not repeat lower level quests.

Trying a new experiment. My goal is to increase the awareness of various (and mysterious) mechanics. Many of these tips are probably well known for top level players, so this thread may not be as useful. Tips will range from newbie tips to little known facts about the game. This should be a good place for people to grab snippets of information.

Tip # 1: “Server reset” occurs at 12:00 AM PST. The server does not observe daylight savings time. “Server reset” marks the start of the new day, mist count and the free mystery box from the guardian are refreshed. Skill points are also refilled at this time.

Time is a relative term for this game. Some people will mist a lot, others rarely mist. When people say “I haven’t gotten a white crystal in five months”, it doesn’t really mean anything since it depends on how many mobs were defeated in that five month time frame.

I don’t actually try to level. I’m in my own guild with a 0% bonus. I was maybe getting about 1% every three weeks without misting. Occasionally I will hit mystics, but I’ll only hit mystics that are unguarded – so leveling really depends on how often these things show up.

Leveling speed is also relative to your stats at higher levels, since the better leveling spots (Poseidon, Mystics, Faction Wars) all grant experience based on damage dealt, so there’s a lot of variables factored into leveling.

Telling you how long it takes for me to level won’t really tell you anything about what other people will have to deal with at the same level. It really depends on your stats, how you stack bonuses, and how much time you’re willing to invest.

Posting on the forums means you’re still alive, and if you’re alive that means you have to play Dream World, omark96.

My biggest achievement is also a huge regret, interestingly enough. I’m very proud of the fact that I have been able to “keep up” with top ranked players in terms of stats. That being said, I do regret the amount of time that has been put into this game.

To all those that think this is a pay to win game, you are only partially correct. Time is the ultimate factor in “winning” at this game. This is one of the least pay to win games available (King of Duels is an exception), and is one of the main reasons I still play.

Topic: Dream World / Halloween event?

This question gets asked every year for every event. Details regarding the past couple events weren’t even given if I remember correctly.

To answer your question: Same as last year, with the same or lesser duration.
Last year was 30 minute visits to the Haunted House, 25% of getting 30 energy, 25% of getting a mystery box, 25% of getting a pumpkin bar, and 25% of getting an enchant potion.
Since Halloween falls on a Friday this year, Haunted House will either be a one day thing, or a three day thing.

No, you cannot have full SP to avoid getting the pumpkin bar.

Topic: Dream World / Official Suggestions Thread

Seems like there’s mainly two reasons why people continue playing, which is the chat and the ability to work with people that are similar to your level. Grinding is tough, but if you have interesting people to talk to, it’ll seem like less of a chore and more of a social interaction with something to do on the side. Nowadays, it seems like chat is diminishing since we’re losing players and around half of every guild is inactive.

Perhaps the auto join feature can be enhanced a bit to put people in guilds that have many in their level range. Enduring the torture that is Isendel way back then was difficult, but it was a lot more fun enduring it with 20 other people.

Raising the soft cap for lower level players seems like an interesting idea, but I do think it will skew the gameplay a bit as mentioned. That, and people that have been playing for years worked extremely hard to get from the existing soft cap to where they are now – increasing the cap takes away from the players that have grinded to get where they are (my biased opinion that doesn’t really matter but I’ll throw it in here anyways).

Nah, not worth it.

Heh, same reason I don’t buy them. But what else you gon’ use those gems for?

When I run out of coin or another expansion arrives, whichever first :)

Unless you plan to throw your entire savings into a well and lose it all, you probably won’t reach a point where you’ll need them.
