Besides reading the first post, not really. It’s compressed via LZMA2, which isn’t supported among most archive managers. Try downloading 7-zip and extracting it.

I’ve known this was a worthless game from the beginning, hence why I never spent any real money. I never give money to those who don’t deserve it. I’ve only stuck around because I have nothing better to do, which will change in the near future anyway. But if you’re quitting, there’s no point in hanging around. I can find better time-wasters.

Good luck to you, Conan.

I don’t see a COM interface for Maxthon. To be of any use, I’ll have to have a method to interact with it via code, where I can automate things. If you could find any information on that I’d appreciate a link, but I don’t have time to go searching too much myself.

In regards to having an official client:

1) I’d choose some random guy who’s never coded in his life to make one vs. R2. I’m sure the Kongregate staff could make a good client, but they don’t really support the use of clients.

2) People seem to have the misinterpretation that clients will reduce lag. It may reduce dependencies, but all that will really do is use less RAM (and possibly network usage), which if you have enough anyway, won’t affect the game at all (I’m not talking about how the game lags itself with over-use of RAM, which would still happen in a client). I say may, because I can’t say what browsers people are using and if they have any extensions. Having a lot of extensions going on an active browser window could surely slow it down, but if you’re going vanilla, there wouldn’t be much difference.

Bottom line for lag: if the code isn’t optimal, you can always brute-force through it with hardware. That’s what I do, anyway.
Why I used IE: it has a COM interface and is guaranteed to be on all Windows computers. The only other option I had was to make my own browser.. No, thank you. If anyone knows of another browser that has a COM similar to IE, and can be redistributed without legal issues, I’ll gladly take a look. May make it cleaner, but still won’t reduce the lag you’re having with the current version.

There will be no updates until further notice. That is, this project is discontinued and I will only update if it becomes unusable.
Thanks.

IMPORTANT UPDATE!

The last update had a memory leak of sorts. The update I put up just a few hours ago fixed that. I also added manual re-sizing.

Thank you squiglylon! I will not be able to make a Mac version, since it’s based of IE (is there IE for Mac?) and it’s written using the Windows API. I’ve also never used Mac :P There is a small chance I may be able to get it onto Linux though.

Added a quick update. Only change is that I implemented a fix for the “flashing” bug. Should occur less often, but I can’t fix it 100%, since it’s a computer-side loading bug. If it does occur, just click the “Fix” button.

Planning a few updates, let me know what you think.

  1. String encryption + archive encryption for links (seed is generated and saved locally; if seed is lost, the file can’t be accessed and link will have to be put in again)
  2. Support for multiple links
    • Generate shortcuts for each link, at the user’s discretion, so it will start on whatever link the shortcut is associated with
  3. Add wilds coord saver (it’s a little app I wrote prior to this)
    • Saves the coords that you’re currently looking at into a list which can be hidden/shown, added to, and destroyed (deletes entire list)
  4. Support for in-game battle key remaps (?)
    • Numpad 1-5 for skills 1-5, 7 for HS, 8 for first rune, 9 for second rune, 0 for sylph, and – to toggle on/off.

Thank you, I’m glad you enjoy it! If I ever get some free-time, I have an update in mind for it. As for the known bug, it would really help if people could post detailed descriptions of their environment when it happens and what a possible aspect could have changed when it’s not present. As detailed as you can be :) You may also PM me the details if you don’t feel comfortable posting them in the thread here. Thanks!

@PHEN0M, please refer to the original post, where I’ll keep a list of known bugs.

As far as I know this client should work for any platform, as long as you put in the relative URL, which I would assume is similar to that of Kong’s.

@PHEN0M, are you really sure that it’s actually deleting the cache? If it is, check your IE settings. To answer your question, no, it does not (directly). It uses whatever IE settings you have, so if you have it set to do that, then it will do that.

Small update. Cleaned the code, custom size is now saved cross-session.

@SirPhilly, nothing I can do for you then, sorry. That’s a problem specific to your system, not the client, and I can’t debug a computer I don’t have access to.

@KS23, the keyword I see there is “have,” that word doesn’t fit in that statement. Simply, they could allow downloadable content and keep it available on the site, thus there is no need for it. Like this client, it’s just about preference. I see no problem with them having both, except it creates less work for them and potentially the developers.

It doesn’t install anything, it runs as a single-file. As for why it shut down, could be a number of things, even a memory read/write access violation that got around the fail-safes, who knows. Regarding the program itself, specifically the code, it doesn’t cause any system instability. You may try again, at your own discretion. Is your computer known to have problems like this?

@PHEN0M, that would be on your end, not mine. Works great over here :) Remember, I didn’t promise that it would be faster, just that it’s more likely to be.

I’ll also explain what a “cache” is, as most people don’t seem to understand. A cache of data is the data that is stored on the hard disk to be used for future sessions of a program. In this case, the first time, or few times, would be a little slow, as it has to re-build the cache. It has nothing to do with RAM.

@SirPhilly, I can’t fix what you don’t specify. What actually happened, in detail?

@AK105FSBReaper, that’s not exactly pertinent to this topic.

Sorry about that, that was my fault. Now it actually does force the top-left into view. I’ve also added a new entry to the view, where you can change the size to anything you want. Until I can clean it, I’m not putting in any hotkeys, although I’ll make note of that.

Edit: nevermind, it’s broken again. One sec..

All fixed and uploaded.

@Green, well said. My apologies for assuming you had tested it. And, as far as anti-virus, I would suggest Malwarebytes; it has a very active community and definitions are updated daily.

I’m fairly well-known in my circles, but that doesn’t reach here. If you (whom it may concern) want to know more about myself, relative to my programming, feel free to PM me.

@deShad, that was fixed in the update (forces the top-left into view), please download the new version.

Also, please don’t rely on the files version info, it’s static. I’m honestly far too lazy/busy to be constantly updating it. At the moment, I’m just trying to get it working for the majority, then I need to THOROUGHLY clean the code, which may take a while. From there, I’ll make updates as needed. And no, I will not be releasing the code.

@deShad, the current “small” setting is 1100×660, which is now the current default (just updated), do you really think I should make a 4th at that size?

@PHEN0M, updated so it forces the top-left into view, initially.

@PEHN0M, in the top-left, you can select the size. Is that part out of your screen area? Sorry about that, I’ll try to fix that for you. Can I ask what your resolution is?

That’s fair. I’ve added a screenshot to the first post.

I’ve had this and have been using it for about a month now, only posted because: 1) everyone complains about there not being a client; 2) Green suggested I post it here.

Also, because it’s a browser inside a GUI, you could put literally any URL in and it would load it. I could (and might?) add an exception so it will only load a url that looks kind of like the one it’s made for. But for now, it works with any.

That’s your decision, then. I’m sure she’ll see it, she asked me to post it here. Not sure why a level 52, 6-year member isn’t trusted, but oh well.

You may ask Greenfireflygirl, or Greenfire in-game, she’s a mod on the R2 forums, she’s tested it for me. Server 6, Guild: Empire, we’re both there. You could also run a few anti-virus scans.

Download link: http://tiny.cc/Wartune_Client (this link is static and will always contain the most recently released version)
OS: Windows (tested on 7)
Architecture: x86 (32-bit)
Dependencies: IE and Flash for IE (7-Zip or similar to extract from *.7z)

Last Update: 11/09/14 at 2:11am

I made a meager client for Wartune. It’s IE dependent, so you’ll need that, as well as Flash for IE. This client is in Alpha and likely to have bugs. If you run into any, please post them so I’m aware of them.

Most will be asking “Is it faster?” and the answer is “most likely”. See, this client separates the Flash processes, so if you’re running multiple clients, it doesn’t clog up one process, but instead gives each one their own process. This still takes up as much RAM as it normally would, however, during my testing, by having it separated from my normal browser, I can have the client running as well as another heavy flash game in my browser and there’s little performance impact. Again, you will still need the required amount of RAM (I have 16gb currently).

As previously mentioned, you may run as many clients as your computer can handle (I’ve only tested 2). The menu is very simple: start by clicking File > Change Url. Here, you put your “DO_NOT_SHARE” link. You can get this link by right-clicking on any server > copy link address.

The View menu will change the window size (large is the maximum supported by the UI, approximately 1500×900). Now allows manual re-sizing.

Known Bugs

  • Occasionally will “flash” active and inactive and will not allow you to type in chat. Found the issue, but is not 100% avoidable. Added a “Fix” button to the menu bar.
