No. I thought about it, but somepeople may be limited by connection speeds and such, and I don’t want people to have that sort of advantage/disadvantage. Multiplayer games also give extreme advantages to people that have played the game many times before and know the mechanics off the bat. In a single player game, the same problem can exist with single player games, but the weaker competitors have time to increase their skill level without being punished by losing to the competitors who were born ready to kill.
I also most likely wont be choosing a game like Hell Tetris or Chess for the same reason. Some people are good, but the people that have played them a lot already have a disgustingly clear advantage.

Thanks, burrito. That seems like a fair decision.

Why does there need to be a redemption round? We don’t want these guys back.
Just kidding.;)

I would. I hate that game!
It’s my Waffle Mania on Kongregate. Although, I would rather play Waffle Mania than GUR.
At least I’d have a chance.
the GUR Challenges were mainly set by Maist, Blizz, & I. You sure about not wanting GUR? :P
Oh, I’m quite sure. I’d much rather play a game, where I have a good chance to win.
Instead of rage quitting after five minutes of playing that hallucinogenic atrocity. XP

That’s fine. I’m just not going to play that game. I swore after Wii’s tournament that I’d never play it again.

Edit: Really don’t like this game. Though I should be able to improve quite a lot over this.

I just love the feeling of going at it full force against an equally aggressive opponent. Pushing myself to new limits, throwing everything I can at them to try to win.
It’s a feeling that probably very few people can really understand.
I’m the same way, very competitive, & if I’m facing an equally tough or tougher opponent, it pushes me to go beyond my limits, to do the best I can possibly do to try to win. Nowadays, I just won’t have much time to compete in tournies anymore. Still laptopless for now, I’ll have a baby nephew to help take care of, I’ll be mainly busy with pokemon competitive battling, in addition to video games & work.
It’s the same for me, really. I have too many important things going on in my life and I won’t stay, if I don’t have the chance to win any more.
You should check out my ebook, when it’s finished (The Beast.) It’s an autobiography, about my life as a competitive gamer.
And I will be referencing some of you as well, so keep an eye out for it.;)

Instead I am not so competitive, when I start something I won’t give up until I give the 100%, that’s what really matters to me, I don’t care so much about winning, the most important thing is knowing that I couldn’t have done any better.
Yes. That’s it. I want to leave the match feeling like I gave it my all.
Best, you definitely get it!:D

I like the longer time frame. I would prefer that we keep it to atleast 6 days.

That’s right. You’re not good enough, unlike me. I’ll totally wreck you in a tournament.
Anyways, is there a Lucky Scrub category? People who manage to get a really high score somehow while sucking at games. Like that one round where I was first place in Canabalt.
By the way I could even be placed in the “Lucky” category.
IMO, you seem to play like a bomber. I would probably place you in that category.
Originally posted by videogames518:
yay, I fall into the mega? bomber category! >:P
Honestly, I think I might be a combination of a Striker & Mega? Bomber, since I do tend to put out a big score to start with, but typically try to improve my own score, & sometimes try to outdo some other people in the process.
The main difference between a striker and a bomber is the number of scores posted.
Bombers, usually don’t put up more than two per round and in my experience, the key to defeating a bomber is to beat their second score. Most bombers, that I’ve run across, are unable to significantly improve upon their second score. Within the course of the round.
Usually, that’s because their second score is very high.
Now in your case, I classified you as a “Mega Bomber.” “Mega” means that you’re very consistent and can frequently put up massive scores, that will blow away, most of the competition.
I’ve also seen you feed off the momentum of the match (similar to me.) So you’re versatile as well.

It’s really not weird. But you have to be active in the tournaments to understand what I’m talking about.
All gamers, are going to follow some variation of these strategies, when it comes to submitting a score.
It’s like when you play competitive sports. You need to be aware of your tendencies and your opponent’s tendencies.

That sounds more like a striker to me. It’s more along the lines of the way I like to play. I like to get on top of my opponent early and keep them feeling like they’re always having to come from behind.
A bomber, waits until they have a very high score and then puts it up. Usually, their score will crush everyone else’s. It’s similar to the Silent Destroyer in that sense. Except the bomber plays his/her score much earlier in the round.

4. Nubs: A nub is a gamer who is honestly terrible and just shouldn’t try in the competitions. No mater how hard they try, they just can’t seem to get a score to even match what other players get. They often get eliminated on round 2, causing people like Shawn to come in second place due to some whacky majestic things related to a number 2.
Often, they are eliminated early, causing no real challenge to the actual competition.
Players who utilize the Nub strategy are: MNIN, EG, and TiC.
I think people who lose early, aren’t really all that interested in playing a serious tournament. They’re just there to have fun and that’s fine too.

What's your playing style?
I created this thread, to discuss the different playing styles used in the gaming competitions. Having played for years, I’ve come across three main distinctions for how we gamers, submit a score.
Everyone falls into one of three catagories, based on how frequently they submit and what time they get them in by.
Here’s a list of the strategies and names which I use to identify a gamer’s playing style. Take a look at the list and see if you can pick yourself out.
JoshDragon’s gamer definition list:
1. Bombers: A player, who puts up 1-2 huge scores per round. Bombers, usually have a two punch strategy. They try to get on top of you with their first score. If you manage to beat it, they’ll have another one waiting. Surviving the first two scores against a bomber, will increase your chances of beating them tremendously.
However, it’s a lot easier said than done.
A highly skilled “Mega Bomber” in my opinion is the hardest type of gamer to compete against.
Players, who utilize the bomber strategy are: MaistlinRajere, BenB, and VG
2. Strikers: A striker, is a gamer who feeds off the momentum of the match. They thrive on creating a back and forth rythym, where they trade scores with their opponent. Gradually raising their level of play until one of them posts the winning score.
Strikers, have a somewhat inert weakness to the bomber playing style. This is mainly due to the lack of rythym during the match. The bomber, leads off with their best score and usually it’s hard for the striker to gain momentum against an opponent, who doesn’t post many scores.
Players, who utilize the striker strategy are: LouWeed, myself, and Blizzard.
3. Silent Destroyers: Silent Destroyers, are both tricky and unusual. They lurk in the shadows until the end of the round. Biding their time, until the clock is nearly up and then come racing out with a massive score.
Often, they’re forgotten about until it’s too late. They don’t attract much attention to themselves but do a more than adequate job of cutting through the competition.
This playing style is also synonamous with the “ninja gamer.”
Players, who utilize the Silent Destroyer strategy are: Darkboy, Cirpacha, and Precarious

Lol. I can tell you’re anxious to come back. It would be fun if we got the chance to compete again. Though I doubt it will happen.
At this point, I don’t plan on competing in many future tournaments.
