I’m done with this game.

Topic: Rise of Champions / Matchmaking system is poor

I’m writing this after a 9-game losing streak. How many players will stick with the game if this is their experience?

One solution to this would be to make it possible to go down in the tier system. People who lose frequently would tier down and face weaker opponents. The problem is that this enables abuse. Players could lose on purpose to fight weaker people. In my opinion the game is good as it is.

I don’t think this would be a common problem, for two reasons

1. Quitting and finding another game isn’t much fun, believe me. It’s what I spend most of my time doing now. The wait is annoying.

2. When you quit, the AI plays on for you. The system could be that if the AI wins after you quit, you gain the tier points but don’t get any loot. So a winning player quitting to artifically lower his score would often find his score going up anyway, and with no loot to show for it.

The problem is that the current system may prevent new players from sticking with the game. This isn’t healthy for the game long-term.

I just got promoted to Elite Reaver and hit the same problem; I have no chance to win against the majority of decks I face.

The current system is flawed because there isn’t a strong enough correlation between your party’s strength and your tournament tier. If you’re a new player, and you play a lot, you will be promoted to a tier where you cannot win against most of the opponents you are matched with. This is an inevitable result of the scoring system, 10 points for a win, 5 for a loss with no relegation to lower tiers guarantees that a frequent player will end up facing OP opponents.

I liked this game but there’s no game left now. My play consists of quitting after a turn or two once I’m sure I have no chance to win.

To you old hands defending the current system, try making a new account. See what happens after a couple of weeks when you get it to Elite Reaver.

The game needs to be 10x faster than it is. I’m not interested in the lame animations and sound effects.

I was just pitted against Aluisio011 (played by the AI). 2 of my guys were killed and a 3rd almost dead before I got to take my first action. The matchmaking system should not allow such one-sided matchups.

I don’t agree, because losing isn’t fun. A matchmaking system that consistently puts you in losing matches is a bad system.

I think the game needs (if it doesn’t already have it) a relegation system, where if you lose a number of games in a tier you are dropped to the tier below. If you’re losing it’s frustrating in itself, but it also slows your progress because it’s harder to earn new items, gold and essence.

That said, my winrate has picked up, I think I just had a very unlucky streak immediately after entering the reaver tier.

I’ve been playing this game for a few days now. I was happily romping through single battles with a winrate of ~90%. But since I hit the reaver tier, my winrate is just ~20%. It’s not much fun to be consistently matched against opponents you have no chance of beating. Ideally, against human players, your winrate should be pretty much 50%, and higher against the sucky AI. Progression for me now is so slow that it will take some time before my party gets strong enough to compete with most reaver tier parties. Grinding a game where 80% of matchups are instaloss doesn’t seem much fun.

An item has +5% armour, is it better than an otherwise identical item with +5% physical resistance?

Yes, thanks. It’s strange that isn’t the default.

I’m interested if someone in my guild says something, and a chat notification for that is great. I’m really not interested if a random player loots the holy hand grenade of antioch. I shouldn’t be informed that there are new useless messages for me to ignore, the chat button should only be highlighted if new chat has appeared.

+1 to this. It’s good that the AI plays fast on grandmaster, but it’s hard to see what cards it is playing, and the animations are out of sync. Sometimes I think I have a game locked down only to see my cards disappear and a small army materialise on the opposite side of the board. It would be cool to be able to consult a log of the cards just played rather than shout CHEAT! at the monitor.

I just got the 5 legendary pack for TU. Played it for the first time and it looks almost identical to Tyrant Leashed, but with added Pay2Win. I’m not going to spend money on TU, is there any point in playing it?

OK. A few months ago, I was unable to complete the 3 stormkills contract because I wasn’t getting stormkills after saving the mortar for the 10th kill. It sounds like it’s been fixed though.

Maximum discount is 40% at the moment. I’m wondering if roulette has been nerfed as well, I’ve only received CR or nothing for the past few days.

No…mortar kills do count as ragekills, stormkills, prokills.

You could keep asserting this. Or, you could use a mortar on 9 kills, and find out for yourself that you’re FOS.

mortars do count

Mortar kills count towards the total for storm and pro. But if the 10th kill is a mortar kill, you won’t get a stormkill, and probably you won’t get a pro if your 20th kill is with mortars.

You did something to offend the gods of noob and they punished you. Perhaps you were crouching too much, or ran in a straight line towards the enemy VIP. Now you must do penance to placate them or forever spawn behind the truck on OSM. 4 quadkills should make them forgive you.

Bascule, you say that “If nobody has guns, gun murder sprees are not possible.”
Then you state that there was a gun massacre in a country with extremely harsh gun control laws. Did the gun control laws prevent the bad guys from getting guns?

One mass killing in 17 years in the UK. How many have happened in the US in that time?

To address both of you: this is incorrect. Look at Australia. They have not had a mass shooting ever since the government buy back program. This means there has not been a mass shooting for 18 years, pretty much unheard of in most parts of the world. Australia did not stop guns but its strict gun control has saved 1000s of lives.

I was trying to be satirical. I’m in the UK, where private ownership of guns has been all but outlawed since Dunblane in 1996 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunblane_school_massacre). There has been just one gun murder spree since then (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumbria_shootings). If nobody has guns, gun murder sprees are not possible. I’m not sure how noone will rationalise that into guns saving lives, but I’m sure he’ll find a way.

OP, guns don’t kill people. In fact, the more guns there are, the safer you are. If you want to kill women and children, try using liberals, computer games and bad language.

The question for me is, which of these is more likely?

1. Dutch gets banned for no reason. He thinks to himself, why did I get banned? I was near that rock in OSM, that must be it. (Why would he think that?) And makes screenshots that look like someone might be in the rock when they aren’t.

2. Dutch goes in the rock in OSM, and gets banned. He knows exactly why. He makes screenshots that look like someone might be in the rock when they aren’t.

I don’t think you’re right. I think you should be right, but I get these problems with a ping of 18. I blame bad coding.
