Topic: Collaborations / WANTED- Suggestions

My last game, Hectris, kind of came and went without much notice, but the reviews and ratings it got were far from bad, so I think I’m gonna release an upgraded “Hectris+” and I’d like to know what I should do to improve the game. Unfortunately, the game didn’t really get too many in-depth critical reviews, so I’m asking if anyone would like to play my game here:
http://www.kongregate.com/games/L3viath3nt/hectris
And then offer their advice.

What I’m thinking right now is to remove the cheevos (but I would still add Kongregate and Newgrounds site achievements), offer multiple difficulty levels, and improve the graphics and layout in some way.

Any help is appreciated!

Topic: Kongregate / How to play in fullscreen???

I think games are only blurry if they aren’t using vector images, which I believe most games do use. And you can play games in full screen. There was a game on Newgrounds called Barbarian Onslaught that let you do it and I do it all the time when testing my games. Keyboard input isn’t disabled in full-screen, or at least you can enable it if you’re the developer. The real problem is that performance takes a pretty big hit when you go full screen, especially when the game is embedded in a website, and there also needs to be some special code implemented in HTML (aka by Kongregate) so browsers will allow it to go full-screen. (Otherwise, it’s like when you embed a youtube video and the fullscreen button doesn’t work, that’s because of the embedding HTML code)

Topic: Collaborations / WANTED- Testers and a Musician

Alright, so I’m working on a puzzle game called “Hectris” which is about 90% done at this point and I’m looking for some help giving it the finishing touches.

The more important of these positions is the Musician. I could use some sound effects as well as some songs to play in the background, a la the Tetris theme. Note that the music is really what I’m after and doesn’t have to be written just for this game. If anyone out there already has some catchy music I could use, that would be awesome.

Testers aren’t really needed, but I would like some input on where to take the game in its final stages, plus I might need some help squashing a few bugs.

I’m hoping to release the game between this and next Friday, so both jobs would be short-term. There will be payment for services, and we can discuss the price upon agreement to help. Anyone interested?

This pretty much means abortions and gay marriage would be legal.

It’s not a foreign country. They exist within America’s borders and there’s really nothing selfish about the act, though I wouldn’t say it’s an act of charity, either.

Topic: Serious Discussion / We should NOT feed kids at school. Period.

I am tired of this. I always even when in school, thought it was odd to eat at school.

Yes you did… And who says the government is feeding kids “crap food”? Some kids choose to eat it food from schools, be it because it can be warm/cold then, or because they don’t want to make their own lunches every morning, or because GASP! they like it! Wild idea, huh?

I sincerely hope that you don’t actually believe this bull.
Here’s a good reason: Kids get hungry. You try going for 8 hours without eating for 180 days of the year and then tell me kids shouldn’t be eating at school. And schools don’t just give out free food. You either bring your lunch to school or you buy your meal from the school: there aren’t any handouts. And to say that this trains kids to expect free government handouts is just far-right terror-mongering bull.
PS About point #2, that already happens. the clothes are called school uniforms.

That rate is incredible. I didn’t believe it at first, but it looks like it’s true.
Anyways, I think “people NOT looking to correct a ‘mistake’ or ‘accident’” would qualify as trash, regardless of color.

You know, this kind of sounds like what Deists believe in: God got everything in motion but now he really can’t affect everyday life. Just saying.

Topic: Serious Discussion / iPhone Developer Agreement Goes Public

How would Standard Oil given anyone the chance to strike it big? Nobody really benefited from the SO monopoly, except Rockefeller.

See, I don’t think anyone’s looking at this from the dev’s side. If I make games and I want to make money, I have this chance to make a game by myself and earn $500000 in 3 months (that did happen to the maker of iShoot, even though I’m certain success stories like that aren’t too common) so if the terms I have to agree to are harsh, I shouldn’t care. I’d be willing to sacrifice freedom to move on up and move on to bigger and better things. If they become more and more restrictive, then you need to start worrying, but for now, there can be a payout to this that didn’t exist in the Oil monopoly.

Topic: Serious Discussion / iPhone Developer Agreement Goes Public

They really aren’t Apple’s developers. If iPhone devs don’t like it they are free to not develop for it, but despite these restrictions, the App Store gives tremendous potential to unknown devs, which is why they stick with it. Who are they to demand more fair treatment from Apple when Apple gives them this opportunity to strike it big?

Besides, if the agreement gets more strict, eventually devs will start leaving and Apple will hurt. They need to find a balance between restricting freedoms of the developers while still paying them enough to make apps for their phone.

True, but can you deny that God has influence in our world? I’m not really saying he’s an actual being, but he does exist as at least something, much like Aragorn exists as a character in the Lord of the Rings, which is why I refer to him as an “artificial” god.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Whats the likelyhood of god being real?

I’m gonna take another cue from Douglas Adams and say that God is definitely real, if viewed a certain way (Duh). Let me explain: There is no way there is an omnipotent God watching over everyone like most Religions would have you believe. Omnipotence as a trait is pretty much impossible as shown by the omnipotence paradox. Now there could technically be a less powerful God, but I find even that unlikely and it’s beside the point.

The point I’m trying to make is that while a real God may or may not exist (I prefer the latter), the existence of an artificial God is undeniable. Whether or not you like it, “God” has influence over what people do. “God” causes people to start wars. “God” causes people to build homeless shelters. “God” causes otherwise rational people to get out of bed before 12 on Sundays to go to Church.

In a way, God is like money. Money doesn’t mean anything or have any inherent value. A dollar bill is just a piece of paper, but it has influence because we say it does and act like it does. Even gold has few uses and reasons to be of value other than the fact that it is attractive.

Much like money, “God” has influence and weight even though He might be nothing. We act like He exists and therefore He does. He just might not be who or what you expect Him to be.

The US now still uses an outdated constitution

The amount of time its lasted might clue you in to how well it works

That doesn’t mean it’s not out of date. It was out of date in 1860 when it didn’t say slavery was illegal. It was outdated in 1920 (I think) when it didn’t give women the right to vote and didn’t allow for the consumption of alcohol (though that ban wasn’t in the original draft). The Constitution set up the most solid Government system ever, which is why it is great, but it is also great because it can be changed and altered to keep up with the times. I’m not saying it is outdated (I think a gun ban anywhere besides a utopia would go over as well as Prohibition), but it shouldn’t be something we regard as absolute and unchangeable.
