The Game Development Thread
Seems like a cool idea.
Glad to see interest in the idea. To go more in depth about what I already have planned and what I think would help make a game such as this.
So far I am working on the first game in FGFTTA (Forum Games Forum Top Trump Adventure). It is the “The Realm of the Dead” series. As my first FG and one of the first, I have chosen characters and creatures from them to make the 1st area.
The sort of cards I want in each area (FG) are:
Main Story Arc cards (Cards of Player Characters and Main Storyline Characters/Main Important roles)
Lore cards (Cards derived from the lore of the FGs)
Although this seems limited to RPs, it is not. All that is required is for everything to be put in an RP context. For example:
Competitions can receive cards as the main contenders for the competition win could have a card based off their competition appearance. Several Lore cards can be received from the games played in competitions.
CYOPs can receive cards easily as the protagonist and major encounters of the CYOP make the main cards and several lore cards can be constructed.
Mafias can receive cards based of the players in the roles. For example there could be a card like “Mayo RT” if I ever played a mayor role and made significant impact for town. Lore cards could be playerless or discarded roles or players who made less of an impact to the game.
Puzzle games can receive cards mostly based of lore, cards coming from the concept of the game more than anything.
RPs, cards can be made easily as Lore and Story Arcs are directly viewable.
Strategy games can receive cards the same way as puzzle games.
Here are examples of what I said above:
Game: Bluji’s Christmas Calendar
Main Cards: Christmas Bluji, Undead Santa, (Others)
Lore Cards: (Others)
So this game may not be the best example as I didn’t play it and don’t know what sort of challenges or Lore based cards I could create of the challenges.
Game: The Lighthouse
Main Cards: The Lighthouse Keeper,
Lore Cards: (Others)
I would be able to make more examples but the game is still new. But as you imagine there would be tons of things in CYOPs that you can make cards of.
Game: Acid City Trouble
Main Cards: Warden Kadleon, Eagle-eye back, Informer graveyard (Or more creative titles), DJ Wizard
Lore Cards: Gravedigger Spike, Eviscerator Spike, “Mayo” Turtle, RandomAngel
This was a very recent game I played, and cards can be based on fabricated claims in mafias just to spice up the set a bit.
Game: Rat Maze
Main Cards: Yellow Rat Lebossle, Red Rat Back
Lore Cards: Blue Rat Graveyard, Skull Trap
I have never played rat maze but these are the sorts of things that jump out at me.
Game: Nations of the world 3
Main Cards: Prime Minister BC, President Ajx
Lore Cards: UN officials
These sorts of things.
Game: The Fading Horizon
Main Cards: Jonathan Invicthan Targaryen, Ethyri Stark, Ellis Anderson
Lore Cards: KARMELASH
Nothing in the examples above are cards at this point in time but do give insight to what the idea is.
Moreover to get this idea on the go I would need help. As I can’t dig through FGF to find all the top tier games and then read all the content of those games and condense it down to cards I think best portray it. Ideally I would want help in a form such as;
“I have found this game, was really fun when I played it, I loved this game and would like to see it in FGFTTA, here are a list of potential cards for this game”
As by doing this the work I then have to do is balancing the card stats. It may seem lazy, but in all honestly reading 100s of pages of stuff you have no special interest in, you are bound to misinterpret, misunderstand or straight up miss a bunch of things and those inaccuracies will live on in the card set forever. Whereas if someone who had a big interest in the stuff would be able to more readily recall correct information and give the potential cards that make the most amount of sense and that other players familiar with the games will like.
Any feedback, hit me up.
