You can do an rpg in flash. Just learn action script.

I would say, go with flashdevelop, because it’s free. Don’t invest like 300$ in a software, when your are not even sure if you will make money or not.

But anyway, good update, but you could also separate the regular users in 2 (developers and non-developers). So, the developer would be in top of the non-developers. It’s just a suggestion, and I don’t know if you can do that ( if it’s possible).

Ye, exactly what I think, but, you don,t need adobe flash ( it cost money). There is some other free things, like by example, flashdevelop.

Look at that: http://www.kongregate.com/forums/4-programming/topics/89-faq-making-games-read-first

And just in case you don’t know, to make game, you don’t only need the software, you need lo learn programming, in this case, AS3.

Hey, I have another idea for the chat room. What do you guys think about adding a message in the chat for when someone log in and out. By example: sanchez9416 has entered the room. sanchez9416 has logged out.

This way, we would know when someone have left the chat room, and when someone arrived.

Is there anything I could do here?

Maybe a soltion, if it’s really a problem, could be an ad blocker. But use it only if the adds are really lagging the game.

Topic: Game Programming / Box2D - Put 2 shapes in a body

Thanks, but someone just found the answer on FlashGameLicense. I was adding the second shape correctly, my problem was that the second shape was define in counter-clockwise order. So, each time I tried to add the second shape, everything stopped working.

Doesn’t really matter, because it will play in loop. But, for sure it should be a bit longer than 3 second, because the main idea is that it have to go well with the game style, and it don’t have to be annoying. But anyway, thanks Svala. I sent you a private message with my email, to send me the loop when it will be finnished.

Hey, one of my friend was at home, so he modify a bit your spiky ball to make it better, but thanks anyway.

EDIT: I changed a bit the concept of the game, the first idea was too laggy ( too much blocks), and I got a better idea. I’ll use all the same graphics, because it’s similar, but I would need another thing. It’s 2 big post. Those post would be placed on the ground you can see in the game preview. It would be wooden post.

Ye, I watch all those video. The problem is that the subject is mentioned, but he doN’t tell how to do it. He only explain that if you want to have a concave polygon, you need to make multiples shapes.

That is FALSE

Sorry, but if the GDR is empty at a particular time (which it sometimes is until it is more widely recognised), then using the forums is a better bet.

It doesn’t take long to whip up a topic and wait for an answer here on Kongregate.

Last week, I agree it was always empty. But since 2 days, with everybody finishing school, and the room becoming more popular, there is people online all day.

Topic: Game Programming / Box2D - Put 2 shapes in a body

Hey, I’m trying to put 2 shape in a body, to create a concave polygon. However, I don’t know how to do it. I’m using the version 2.0 of Box2D.

However, when I try to add the 2 shapes, everything start acting weirdly, nothing work anymore in box2D. But just creating the first shape, everything is perfect.

Here is what I do (the code is comment) :

package
{
	import Box2D.Collision.Shapes.b2PolygonDef;
	import Box2D.Common.Math.b2Vec2;
	import Box2D.Dynamics.b2Body;
	import Box2D.Dynamics.b2BodyDef;
	import flash.display.DisplayObjectContainer;
	import flash.geom.Point;
	/**
	 * ...
	 * @author Sanchez
	 */
	public class BananaActor extends Actor
	{

		public function BananaActor(parent:DisplayObjectContainer, initVel:Point)
		{
			//Creating the costume

			var banana:Banana = new Banana();
			parent.addChild(banana);

			//Create the shape def

			var bananaShapeDef:b2PolygonDef = new b2PolygonDef();
			bananaShapeDef.vertexCount = 3;
			b2Vec2(bananaShapeDef.vertices[0]).Set(0 / PhysiVals.RATIO, 19.5 / PhysiVals.RATIO);
			b2Vec2(bananaShapeDef.vertices[1]).Set(12 / PhysiVals.RATIO, 0 / PhysiVals.RATIO);
			b2Vec2(bananaShapeDef.vertices[2]).Set(25.5 / PhysiVals.RATIO, 19.5 / PhysiVals.RATIO);
			bananaShapeDef.friction = 0.6;
			bananaShapeDef.restitution = 0.2;
			bananaShapeDef.density = 0.4;

			var bananaShapeDef2:b2PolygonDef = new b2PolygonDef();
			bananaShapeDef2.vertexCount = 5;
			b2Vec2(bananaShapeDef2.vertices[0]).Set(0 / PhysiVals.RATIO, 19.5 / PhysiVals.RATIO);
			b2Vec2(bananaShapeDef2.vertices[1]).Set(7 / PhysiVals.RATIO, 37.5 / PhysiVals.RATIO);
			b2Vec2(bananaShapeDef2.vertices[2]).Set(25 / PhysiVals.RATIO, 40 / PhysiVals.RATIO);
			b2Vec2(bananaShapeDef2.vertices[3]).Set(49.5 / PhysiVals.RATIO, 22 / PhysiVals.RATIO);
			b2Vec2(bananaShapeDef2.vertices[4]).Set(25.5 / PhysiVals.RATIO, 19.5 / PhysiVals.RATIO);
			bananaShapeDef2.friction = 0.6;
			bananaShapeDef2.restitution = 0.2;
			bananaShapeDef2.density = 0.4;

			//Create the body def

			var positionX:Number;
			var positionY:Number;
			positionX = Math.random()* 510 + 10;
			positionY = Math.random()* 20 - 60;
			var bananaBodyDef:b2BodyDef = new b2BodyDef();
			bananaBodyDef.position.Set(positionX / PhysiVals.RATIO, positionY / PhysiVals.RATIO);
			bananaBodyDef.angle = Math.random()* 40 - 20;

			//Create the body and shape (Here is the problem, I don't think the way I'm trying to add the 2 shape is the good one)
			var bananaBody:b2Body = PhysiVals.world.CreateDynamicBody(bananaBodyDef);
			bananaBody.CreateShape(bananaShapeDef);
			bananaBody.CreateShape(bananaShapeDef2);
			bananaBody.SetMassFromShapes();

			super(bananaBody, banana);
		}

		override protected function childSpecificUpdating():void
		{
			super.childSpecificUpdating();
		}
	}
}

Any idea how to do it?

Topic: Collaborations / My game, still need some graphics and a sound loop

So, here is an preview of the game. It’s still very simple, there is no player interaction yet, and a lot of features are missing, I only have some houres of work on that. I should be finish in a week.

However, here is what is left to do if someone still want to help:

Graphics:

-2 big wooden post that would be place on the ground.

-a Main Menu ( with a play button, a play more game button, and a credit button)

-a small menu for when you finish (die), saying the time you survived, the altitude you got to, the number of points you have, a play again button, a play more game button and a submit score button.

Music

- A nice sound loop for the game ( like jungle style music). Something that would go well with the type of game, and that won’t be annoying for the player.

Anyone that help me with something will get his name in the credits of the game, and, if he want to, his name could link to a blog or a personal website.

Thanks

Topic: Collaborations / My game, still need some graphics and a sound loop

Ok, so, first, thanks to everyone that is currently helping me.

The lasts things that need to be done are:

-The monkey ball :D

-A main menu and a menu for when you finish ( die).

EDIT: The monkey ball is done. The only thing that still need to be done, if someone wants to is a

-a Main Menu ( with a play button, a play more game button, and a credit button)

-a small menu for when you finish (die), saying the time you survived, the altitude you got to, the number of points you have, a play again button, a play more game button and a submit score button.

So if someone want to help me doing them, tell me (your name will also be in the credits), and if not, I’ll do them. I should be able to do some menus, even with my horrible drawing skills :D

Also, I would need a sound track for the game. A little loop that would go well with the game ( jungle style), and that won’t be annoying.

Anyone that help me with something will get his name in the credits of the game, and, if he want to, his name could link to a blog or a personal website.

Ye you’ll get your name in the credit page. For the monkey, remember it has to be like a ball shape. Why I prefer having it this way, is because like that, I don’t need any animation for the monkey jumping or running. Thanks :D

Much better, no?

Ye it’s better. But I would change the move quickly to climb quickly, because in the game, the blocks will stay there, they don’t disapear. So you have to avoid them, and climb to get the higher as possible.

EDIT: So, I got a background, thanks to Mr salvador. The Monkey will be made by gameBuilder. The only thing left is some nice jungle blocks.

Ye that seem good :D Thanks Jerimo.

Did you ever wish to make a monkey fight against falling blocks? Then now’s the time to do it in this new, fast-paced, game where you need to survive the hoards of falling blocks. How long can you outlive the challenge?

The BOLD part is what I’m not sure about, as I don’t know if it’s an un-ending game(going on for infinity or levels?)

Look good, but the end part will need to be changed like you said, because it’s infinite ( you have to get the higher as possible). Maybe something like: and get your monkey the higher you can ( I know it’s bad, but something like that well written) :D

  • Just to say for the graphics, what I would really need is the monkey ( in a circle shape). The other things would be good, but less important.

Hey, I’m doing a game. However, I’m really bad at drawing, I’m a programmer. I would appreciate if someone could make some arts for me. I would need someone that can do them for free, but you’ll get your name in the credits.

So if anyone is willing to help, here is what I need:

EDIT: Here is what is left to do :

Graphics:

-2 big wooden post that would be place on the ground.

-a nice looking Main Menu ( with a play button, a play more game button, and a credit button)

-a small menu for when you finish (die), saying the time you survived, the altitude you got to, the number of points you have, a play again button, a play more game button and a submit score button.

Topic: Kongregate Labs / Puzzle Game Help

Ye the shootorials (my link are shootorial for as3, wich is no the same as dynamite link, wich is shootorial for as2) are ok, but I think this tutorial is better : http://gamedev.michaeljameswilliams.com/as3-avoider-game-tutorial-base/ , because it’s well explained, and it’s easier to start with.

But with those 2 tutorials, you won’t be able to do the game you want, but you need to learn as3 first. A puzzle style game is more complicated to do than a simple shooter. But anyway, after doing the tutorial, so when you’ll know as3, I recommend you those tutorials http://www.kerp.net/box2d/ on a physic engine ( box2d ). With that, you will be able to do exactly what you want to, but don’t start with this tutorial, because it’s not for someone that don,t no as3 yet.
