Topic: Kongregate APIs / Is it worth it to implement tips

There is no tips API. There is, however, a Kreds (microtransactions) API.

I suppose money earned is money earned. Your opinion though on if it’s worth it? also is there a quick kong version of this API? :P

Is it worth it to implement it, the one you speak of? (in your personal experience)

Topic: General Gaming / Poll! Which game would you play

  1. text based adventure game got way more votes then I expected! Also funny because I suspected it to get the least and I also enjoy a good text based game too!

I thought #2 would be a bit higher but I suspect that’s because of the numerous amounts of the genre out there that make absolutely no sense driving down the vote.

Waitwaitwaitwaitwaitwaitwaitwaitwait.

Consoles have better shooters?

Consoles, despite what many seem to think, are much worse at shooters then pcs. A console does not have the fine control needed for shooters, and as such auto aims, snap tos, and the such must be included whether or not the game needs them. Consoles are better for racing games and platformers, and worse at RTS/TBS and shooters. Everything else is mostly middle ground.

As for the awnser to the poll, #6 is something that i cherish, but dont see enough of these days.

I only used the word console because I didn’t want people to get confused with free online flash games. The big FPS games are for PC and consoles anyways. My point was, that they both do it better then the online flash games that you would see here on kongregate. I wasn’t suggesting pc vs console, but I do agree pc can rock it better. (That’s a whole other topic though)

Topic: Collaborations / Trying to establish connections

Haters are gonna hate and users are gonna use. If I wanted to come across as some needy dev that has intentions and demands set in stone I would have done so.

@averagejoedev, Sure, hit me up, we’ll go smoke a fat one together:P

Anywho, been busy with the holidays, I’m still looking for collaborators. Hit me up.

Topic: Collaborations / Trying to establish connections

Jerimo, did you not read my post? My intentions are stated clearly, I’m looking to collaborate and establish connections with creative people on various things.

I specifically avoided the norm of “I’m looking for such and so, for xx reasons” because I think that’s an unpractical solution. I’m more of an open minded and free spirited person, establishing connections with people which whom aren’t set in stone on what they are trying to accomplish is what I believe to be beneficial to all parties. And not just one sided. Creativeness is key.

As for my own skill set, as I already mentioned, I like to do a bit of everything, AS3 programming, voice overs, storyline writing, youtube, music, etc.

I like doing a bit of everything, which I’m sure a lot of you are much the same. Hit me up.

We can simply shoot the shit, play minecraft (talk on skype) or what have you, and discus what needs to be done, there isn’t any money involved…

I’m not here to sugar coat and tell you how there’s money to be made. Passion and love of game making should drive you. PM me.

Topic: Kongregate APIs / QuickKong - Easy Kong API Integration

So it’s just basically packaged better is what your saying or?

I’m curious about a few things with the api.
What happens if my game isn’t on kongregate, will it throw any errors or does the api automatically account for that?
Is there anything we have to account for at all that might give us trouble with the api in general?
Also, what other methods of communication with the api do we have? I read only the one that you had listed, and also referenced the normal api awhile ago, it only excepts a positive integer, or?.

Topic: Kongregate APIs / QuickKong - Easy Kong API Integration

I’ve tested quick kong and I it works just fine. I’m just a bit confused as to what this class does that the normal kongregate api doesn’t do? (Other then the fact that it’s implemented into a class)
I’m new to actionscript. Sorry if I didn’t understand.

Topic: Game Programming / Maya to As3

I was wondering what is possible with incorporating maya animations to as3? I came across a few threads about this but not much was said and it was a bit dated.

Does anyone combine the two? Is it even worth it? I have some rigs and stuff in maya that I’d like to possibly use in future developments as I’m new to actionscript. I’d like some feedback to see what is possible and how I could go about it, what do you guys think?

Topic: Game Programming / Actionscript 3 and graphic tips?

@feartehstickman, I really enjoyed your link http://www.untoldentertainment.com/blog/2010/11/24/understanding-loops/ it really helped me understand the “for loop”! (i’ll have to read more on that blog!)

Great stuff guys. The scripting part of actionscript 3 is going really well for me. My problem is trying to wrap my head around where to put in my code. I hoped to keep things to the main timeline but found myself needing to go within the movieclips timeline itself, at times, because i couldn’t handle them how I wanted to any other way. (I’m not sure if that’s the correct way to do it)

As for classes, I hope to use them asap and my understanding of them isn’t much so I don’t want to start scripting and wasting time, till I get more familiar with that.

Is it possible for you guys to brake down what a class is ? how it functions and what it entails? (I’m not even sure if I’ve used one yet)

Topic: Game Programming / Actionscript 3 and graphic tips?

Great stuff, thanks guys. Just to clarify on some of the stuff said. I should have a main class and then store everything else in other classes and make them private or public as need be and avoid putting code on the timeline and just keep everything on frame one.

Understood on the layers and frames thing. I noticed you can write code on each layer, should I be doing this for structure purposes or just keep the code to one frame on one layer or?

Topic: Game Programming / Actionscript 3 and graphic tips?

Hi, I just started out with actionscript 3 and am completely new to the adobe products in general. I’m hoping some of you kind peoples would like to share/discuss some game making tips,
like what possible programs to use for graphics and any AS3 coding tips you wouldn’t mind sharing.

I’m just getting my feet wet, can you guys possibly share some of the things I should get familiar with?

To give you guy’s an idea of where I’m at in my progress,
I somewhat understand the..
-event handlers -(mouse click, mouse hover and the other few in the snippets)
-functions – (an event handler is needed for the functions right?)
-variables -(boolean, string, int)
-if statements – (if, else if, else)
-syntax, (don’t know that at all and am referring to other codes to help me)
-operators (have been looking them up when need be)

One question if you will, I’m trying to wrap my head around the timeline. When I do animations, should I set them on separate
frames or can I call the frames of individual layers?
