Topic: Collaborations / Partners Artist 50/50

I’m an AS3 programmer looking for artists that want to make games with me. Everything we make is a 50% split.

Don’t let that little “D” beside my account name fool you. I have a few games currently in the launching process and quite a few games that never seen the light of day.

I have plans on moving to mobile and other platforms asap But we will shall make a mark in flash first.

Topic: Game Programming / Kreds api and testing

It’s been awhile since I looked into kreds.
Is there a way to test the implementation of kreds api to see if it’s working? (from a development stand point of course)

Not sure if it’s even worth implementing (kongreate credits) or not but I was wondering if there was a testing feature so that I can make sure the the kreds api is implemented correctly.
(without buying the kreds of course)

I’m guessing the most common thing would be event listeners and duplications. or any other /object/mc etc

Topic: Game Programming / self removeChild inside a container

Not sure if this is bitching about as3 or..
var numbers:MovieClip = new numbers_mc();
empty_numbers.addChild(numbers);
numbers.x=mouseX;
numbers.y=mouseY;

When I click the enemy I spawn an mc inside a container (empty_numbers)

And this is the code inside numbers_mc class

function myEnterFrame(event:Event) {
y-=3;//where is the instance name for this? you need more.

ctime++;// where is the variable for this?
//make sure u do a check to see if its on stage
if(stage.contains(numbers))
if (ctime>=maxtime) {
//if(stage.contains(numbers))//or here
parent.removeChild(this);
//or
empty_numbers.removeChild(this);
}
}

Topic: Game Programming / New to programming - any suggestions?

AS3 is for sure the way to go for you considering everything you said.
Within 2 weeks you will have your feet with your first game completed or in progress.

If your just starting off programming tho and your having a hard time with AS3, move over to visual basic, do this is strictly so that you understand the concepts of programming as it it’s a simpler learning tool, it’s not for game making but it will be a faster tool so that you learn the concepts of variables and programming to objects seeing as you said your new to programming.

Topic: Game Programming / as3 getting e.targets

Thanks for the reply’s.
My question was vague looking back at it.

I’m wanting to get and set an instance of a class by name and set its variables

Essentially I want to tie variables to the target and do something like this

if (event.target is Enemy){
targetname = event.getTarget.name
doTargetByName()
}

function doTargetByName()
targetname .health = 50
targetname .strength = 20
targetname .whatever = 10

}

with the example I shown, I run into variable issues. I can get the target by name but it doesn’t have its own variables asigned to them so I’m back to countless if statements.

1 class, multiple variables, each and every instance within its class different properties assigned/attributes.

Topic: Game Programming / as3 getting e.targets

The way I’m, doing it now is

function targets()
if target = this
then do this
}

if target = that
then do that
}

I want to be able to get info like so

var health:int = 50

function targets()
(get properties)
get event.target
(and apply changes)
event.target.health = event.target.health -1;
etc
}

How do I structure or go about this in AS3?

There is no tips API. There is, however, a Kreds (microtransactions) API.

I suppose money earned is money earned. Your opinion though on if it’s worth it? also is there a quick kong version of this API? :P

Is it worth it to implement it, the one you speak of? (in your personal experience)

I really haven’t looked into this much, I’m assuming there’s an api for it.

thoughts, insights appreciated.

  1. text based adventure game got way more votes then I expected! Also funny because I suspected it to get the least and I also enjoy a good text based game too!

I thought #2 would be a bit higher but I suspect that’s because of the numerous amounts of the genre out there that make absolutely no sense driving down the vote.

Waitwaitwaitwaitwaitwaitwaitwaitwait.

Consoles have better shooters?

Consoles, despite what many seem to think, are much worse at shooters then pcs. A console does not have the fine control needed for shooters, and as such auto aims, snap tos, and the such must be included whether or not the game needs them. Consoles are better for racing games and platformers, and worse at RTS/TBS and shooters. Everything else is mostly middle ground.

As for the awnser to the poll, #6 is something that i cherish, but dont see enough of these days.

I only used the word console because I didn’t want people to get confused with free online flash games. The big FPS games are for PC and consoles anyways. My point was, that they both do it better then the online flash games that you would see here on kongregate. I wasn’t suggesting pc vs console, but I do agree pc can rock it better. (That’s a whole other topic though)

Topic: Collaborations / Trying to establish connections

Haters are gonna hate and users are gonna use. If I wanted to come across as some needy dev that has intentions and demands set in stone I would have done so.

@averagejoedev, Sure, hit me up, we’ll go smoke a fat one together:P

Anywho, been busy with the holidays, I’m still looking for collaborators. Hit me up.

Topic: Collaborations / Trying to establish connections

Jerimo, did you not read my post? My intentions are stated clearly, I’m looking to collaborate and establish connections with creative people on various things.

I specifically avoided the norm of “I’m looking for such and so, for xx reasons” because I think that’s an unpractical solution. I’m more of an open minded and free spirited person, establishing connections with people which whom aren’t set in stone on what they are trying to accomplish is what I believe to be beneficial to all parties. And not just one sided. Creativeness is key.

As for my own skill set, as I already mentioned, I like to do a bit of everything, AS3 programming, voice overs, storyline writing, youtube, music, etc.

I like doing a bit of everything, which I’m sure a lot of you are much the same. Hit me up.

We can simply shoot the shit, play minecraft (talk on skype) or what have you, and discus what needs to be done, there isn’t any money involved…

I’m not here to sugar coat and tell you how there’s money to be made. Passion and love of game making should drive you. PM me.

Topic: Kongregate APIs / QuickKong - Easy Kong API Integration

So it’s just basically packaged better is what your saying or?

I’m curious about a few things with the api.
What happens if my game isn’t on kongregate, will it throw any errors or does the api automatically account for that?
Is there anything we have to account for at all that might give us trouble with the api in general?
Also, what other methods of communication with the api do we have? I read only the one that you had listed, and also referenced the normal api awhile ago, it only excepts a positive integer, or?.

Topic: Kongregate APIs / QuickKong - Easy Kong API Integration

I’ve tested quick kong and I it works just fine. I’m just a bit confused as to what this class does that the normal kongregate api doesn’t do? (Other then the fact that it’s implemented into a class)
I’m new to actionscript. Sorry if I didn’t understand.
